Dude! I’ve been doing this for more years since you were probably a toddler, and I’m telling you right now there’s no way you’re gonna be comfortable sleeping every night on a close cell foam pad with a sleeping bag on top, I don’t care how young you are. Some ideas might be to use half of the back of the car for your sleeping area and the other half for storage. The other thing about storage is if you switch over to soft storage like duffel bags. Are used bins for years and you cannot believe how much more room you have when you use soft storage. I never go back to bins. Also, you might want to invest in a 12 V refrigerator because if you’re living in the car you’re gonna need it believe me. And instead of the roof basket, a roof, cargo box that locks and contains everything out-of-the-way and out of the weather is also a good investment. Good luck to you.

I keep the driver side back seat in seat position. Store bins in the back cargo area. Clothes on the seat and you have way more storage space, including the floor. I have a 2010 sport.

I have the same year/model/color Fit! My headlights were so foggy though, so i replaced the assemblies. Made my Fit look 10 years younger!

Nice video! I think the first thing you could do, is to remove the back seats and make a simple wood frame for a bed . Your storage space will be much bigger. Cheers!
@jaredeckert10 ай бұрын
I could but truly just laying down the seats flat makes it really easy to lay down in and store everything so removing them would be more hassle that it’s worth
@jdmikeg42 жыл бұрын
You guys are all doing it wrong! LoL! What you do is: 1 - Put the rear seats down so they are flat. 2 - Slide the passenger seat as far FORWARD as possible. 3 - Remove the passenger headrest. 4 - Recline the passenger seat all the way back so it is as flat as it can go. 5 - When you lie down, your head/pillows are on the rear of the car where the hacth door is, your legs go on top of the passenger seat. You're welcome!

Thanks for sharing! I’m about to live in my Fit as well (second time) but this time around it will be a longer stay and more knowledge about car dwelling. I too was hoping for a van but it wasn’t cost effective. So I took a deep dive (still am) into car living and it’s comforting to know others are committing to the car dwelling life and experiencing the ups and downs. I live in a much warmer climate but right not it’s safe to car dwell. But come summer it will all change, and that’s the challenge looming not too far off. I look forward to your next videos!

Thank you and the best of luck to you. I live in a very hot climate. This time of year is the only comfortable time to be outside of a house. I am dreading summer but it’s great that it’s a more suitable time for you. My next video on car living should be coming soon. Thanks for the support!

If it is just you, you could remove the back seats, or even just one and stack a couple of the tubs. You could incorporate them into what you sleep on. Or with the seats removed the tubs could fit on one side and the cooler on the other or you could put the spare on the roof rack and store stuff in the spare well.

Hi Jared. I have a 2013 Honda Fit Sport. Like you, I had been pondering what vehicle to convert in to a camper. Thanks to folks like you I am thrilled to realize I can use and enjoy what I already have. Thanks!

Awe thank you! Yes the fit can do the trick. I have more videos on the way that will give you some insight. Stay tuned!

Hi Jared!, I think your filming is awesome, and your choice of vehicle is genius. Hondas or Toyotas are the ultimate choice of vehicles for living in a vehicle. They're the most reliable. Aside from that, I have no suggestions. Your doing everything right lol. I subbed to you and if you start a Patreon I will support you. Loved the ending music too. Cheers to living in your vehicle!. (I have yet to do this, will eventually though). -Michael

also, if you are extra tall, the front passenger seat folds down also... ours does. This way a tall person can have enough room to sleep from front to back in the car. Your set up looks great and you've done a lot to keep your belongings safe and dry !

I've been working on converting a 98 Ford E350 Club Wagon into a camper for the last few years, then decided I wanted to give that van to my son for his 18th birthday this May. We've had a ton of adventure together in that van. I love that van, but it's time to pass the torch. Been a bit sad about letting go of Scarlett JoVanssen, but I remembered before I got the van I was working on doing something with my 2011 Fit. There weren't nearly as many videos on making a Fit a camper back then, and now there are a ton to see how people have done it. So awesome! I am 6' tall and large. I just ordered an ABORON Folding Camping Cot Bed to try out that will hopefully fit on the passenger side as I've seen people do here. I would build something but I don't have the time, part of the reason I'm giving the van to my son. Fingers crossed I can make it work so easily! I am way overdue for some car camping.

Cool content, I dunno how tall you are but I am wondering whether you have tried the refresh mode seat for honda fit 2008. I have a honda fit just like yours and my height is 5'7 and I can sleep very well in the refresh mode (just need extra pillows to add cushion for my back) and it does not take as much space as flattening the back seat for sleeping. You also get to keep your bed as it is while you drive to work and I think it will save more space. Just a suggestion to consider!!

I need to look into this. Frankly, I’ve been sleeping in the front seat as of late. But I appreciate the advice. I’m going to check it out.

i would have taken out the passenger seat then made a wooden stand to go flush with the back and then made the bed extend out that way so u stretch out. the cooler could go on the other side behind the driver seat. also would have gotten a roof too carrier box to hold more stuff

I would make sure to have some way to secure your storage to the roof basket, so no one steals them while you're sleeping.

Heads up you you can (kind of ) fit a twin size mattress in Honda Fit I say this because I just crossed the Country with my fit

See, I love this idea. It would make some nights so much more comfortable. But having all of my possessions in the fit sort of prevents such a luxury. But that is kick ass! I bet that made the trip so much easier!

For what you paid for that YETI, you could've got a 12v Fridge/Freezer combo. Also, is it true if you remove the front seats headrests you can lay them forward flat which would create a whole lot of surface for sleeping? I read that you could, but have yet to see anyone do it.
@jaredeckert2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, my concern is just the power draw. I’m not sure how I’d be able to keep it running without killing my battery. It is a little honest after all. As far as the head rest. The problem is the front seats won’t fold down completely flat when push down forward.
@dianavargas99022 жыл бұрын
My Honda Fit (13) makes a sort of hump where the back of the trunk meets the edge of the seats, is there a way to smooth that out?
@jaredeckert2 жыл бұрын
The ‘08 has the same issue. One method I’ve thought of is getting a piece of ply wood and them padding it. But that’s only really do-able if you plan on keeping the the seats down long term.

Don't use masterlocks. Paclock at Lowe's at minimum. But this was funny and totally something I've done on harsher months. But maybe something I'll do legit for travel. I have a 2018 fit.

I’m very curious to know if what you think of the front seats. Just about everyone who owns a fit has a serious problem with the front seats being extremely uncomfortable. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.
@jaredeckert2 жыл бұрын
Well, realistically I think this falls into “you get what you pay for”. Meaning, the 2008 Honda Fit was maybe 15,500 when it first came out. I’m not sure what we payed for it. But we are talking about an entry level econobox. Most if not all cars aren’t meant to be lived in. On the day to day just driving around, I think are just fine. But a long road trip or sleeping. I mean, it’s a small Honda. Not a Rolls Royce.

How tall are you and how do you find the room sleeping back there?
@jaredeckert Жыл бұрын
Thankfully I am no longer in this situation. But I am 5’11” and sleeping in the back was not the play. For me at least, I found sleeping in the front seat to be the lesser of two evils.
@zxme2u2 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you turn your right front seat around for a full length flat sleeping area? I have a fit, and know the right side seat was meant to be used for sleeping in this way.
