I covered my cracked FX35 Dash with a Coverlay Plastic Cover

After a failed attempt to cover the cracks in my dash with vinyl wrap, I purchased and installed a Coverlay plastic dash cover for my 2004 Infiniti FX 35. Overall the process was fairly simple and I did all of the work myself.
If I were to do this again, I think I would find more silicone adhesive before I started. The amount included with the kit is barely enough for the large area of the FX35s dash. I would also find a better way to put weight on the new cover so it would better adhere with the dash.

Thank you so much for all of your videos based on the fx. I am currently looking into 04-08 model and you've made that decision much more appealing. Showing people how to fix certain short comings of the vehicle is very helpful. Thanks again.

Cracked Dash on my FX45 is just Art Work by the Sun Gods 😜 Thanks for sharing. Yes at the price it's pretty pricey, then again, shipping pieces that large are pricey itself, if they ship out a lot of them, they should be able to work out a better shipping price than the Average Consumer. FedEx Ground or UPS Ground Services may be their best option.

I looked at a few different knock off brands and decided that Coverlay was the way to go. I wish there was a little more sealant in the package, but the fit was perfect.

I would recommend getting a hand caulking gun (about $7 ) and a regular tube of silicone if I were going to do this again. I would ask Coverlay what would be compatible. I found the tube they supplied to be small for as much dash as the FX35 has. I think I would also use black silicon over clear just because it would blend better. Good luck with your install.

Thnx for sharing your experience. I have been a bit put off by the cracked/bubbled dash. Pity because the FXs are such beautiful cars with great sounding engines and very sporty drive. But your videos are encouraging :) I tested two FXs and noticed that either the wheel bearings or the brakes are a bit wobbly but cant be sure before i lift one up on a bridge. Do you have the same problem and what would you recommend, in case i cant stop myself from buying an FX with this issue? Haha

I have some noisy shocks that I should replace but the rest of my 180,000 mi FX seems good. I think the design was way ahead of its time. People don’t believe me that it’s a 16 year old car.

Did the same thing 4 years ago $$$ but easy. I tried with for a 2004FX35 in CA, rejected and was not covered. However, news of a new safety concern in attempt to hold Nissan, was in the news the Bay Area last week. Not too sure it will work.

Automotive Vinyl fabric (like used for seats) is really the way to do this if you want to keep the original texture and feel of the dash. A dash cover will always feel like plastic. I'm not saying what you did was wrong but rather vinyl fabric is always going to look and feel better. The tube has videos on how this is done. You dash still looks better than when you started even if it is just a cover.

I called an upholstery shop to see if they would try and recover my dash and they recommended the Coverlay. I agree it would look much better with new vinyl.

Is this dashboard issue only on the FX cos my 04 g35 coupe has literally been ‘Sun bathing ‘ in the heat of West Africa Nigeria for the last 4yrs and not a single issue on it.

I Have AWD, Light On, Slip, Check Engine Light On & These Sensors When They Start To Fail They Trigger A Bunch Of Lights On The Cluster, So I’m Waiting On The Factory Parts Now & Thinking Of Just Sending The Aftermarket Back Or Just Hold Onto Them

Just bought a beautiful 2004 fx35 a few months ago. And my dash is the worst! Bubbled and disgusting all over it. I’d rather not spend the money on the coverlay but I don’t think there are any other options. Thanks for your channel.

You can defiantly buy a carpet cover for less than the ABS plastic covers. I saw some eBay plastic cover options that were $50 to $100 less than the Coverlay, but I decided Coverlay had the best respected product. Some of the other dash covers have a fabric panel over the airbag cover.

I had the same problem on my 2005 FX35 and after some research I found out that Infiniti had a recall for that dash replacement. I'm sure you must have looked into that so maybe they no longer have that recall?

My 2004 FX35 is covered in bubbles and has pealed/melted in several places, How well does this coverlay plastic dash fit around the vent openings? Can you take some close-up photos of the A/C vents and the top defrost vent?

There are cutouts around the vent holes and the left and right speaker with perforations at the center speaker. The airbag also has a cut out with a second panel that covers over the airbag. One my install, there is some lifting around the edges near the speaker. The most difficult task is making sure the silicone adheres to the original dash. I wish I would have bought a larger tube of adhesive and applied it. There is some lifting of the cover at the speaker openings where the sealant did not completely adhere.

It should work, I would go to Coverlay and make sure they show a compatible product. I think they are the same dash.

A full dash replacement is complicated and expensive. I think the part alone is about $1200 and I would expect several hundred more for the labor to replace it. A new dash will look much better, but for me it was not worth the price on this car.

I think I bought it from CarID. You can buy direct from Coverlay, but it’s a little less expensive from one of their resellers.

I ordered a Coverlay brand from CarID because it was a little less than ordering from the factory directly. It shipped directly from Coverlay in Texas. There are some cheaper options on Ebay also, but I decided I would order what I think is the premium option.

The customers that had positive results with Carid were lucky. They're just a third party website that DOESN'T stock anything. They send your order to the supplier who's the one that ships your order. If the supplier has it in stock you're in luck, if not you'll become another negative reviewer of Carid. I had ordered something from one of their sister websites RecreationID that said it was "in stock". Guess what, the supplier was waiting for their shipment to come in. It took nearly a month, a complaint filed with my bank card company and MOST HELPFUL OF ALL, JUST START CCing all your emails to the supplier/manufacturer of the product you ordered. But before you get to all that, DO NOT ORDER FROM CARID OR ANY OTHER OF THEIR SPIN-OFF DIVISIONS THAT END IN ID ANYTHING. YOU'LL BE SORRY! Anyone that really recommends them is probably a paid or compensated endorser.

I ordered from CarID because I called Coverlay to order directly and the price was about 15% higher. Coverlay told me CarID was an authorized dealer so ordered from them to save a little money. I’m pretty sure Coverlay is making everything to order and I got my dash cover shipped from Coverlay in Texas in a couple of weeks. For this transaction my experience was good. I don’t have any relationship with either company outside of this transaction.

CARID and I had some issues when I purchased a Powerstop brake upgrade kit from them and they didn't want to warranty a faulty caliper. They claimed that the brakes were installed wrong, and while possible, I was confident I didn't make a mistake during the installation. They said it was not covered under warranty and I was forced to contact Powerstop themselves who provided me with an entirely new Kit (Calipers, Pads, Rotors) free of charge and accepted the defective products. CarID wanted to toss me to the side with a $30 gift card instead of serving a warranty of a $700 brake kit.

Not true, I have an 03 and called last year, they refused and said warranty claims are over. If it cracked under warranty, sure. But not 15 years later like my 03 Started Cracking 😢
