This is a video of me telling my story of how I cracked 6 tech job interviews and got 6 figure salaries, no code! I applied the same strategy that the passive candidates used to get an offer without going through multiple nit-picky technical interviews. They didn't ask me what's an object, how to sort an array, or any weird questions. I got a lot of questions like "How would you solve this problem? The biggest thing you forgot to mention is that it really make things easy when looking for a job if you have a green card or citizenship.

I also had 4 job offers when I graduated and when I was on F1 Visa - that too when I was moving from computer science to project management. Same steps and same strategy. I did not have green card at that time! Looks past the limitation and believe you can do it :) If I can do it, so can you!

Agreed, getting a job is not difficult without green card even though some employers don’t hire F1 or H1B folks , that said the main issue is - H1B folks are expected to work much much more than US citizens or GC holders for the same/less salary because they’re dependent on the employer for H1B renewals, transfer and the long wait time for Indian folks make the situation worse. Non GC holders/ Non Citizens are also treated differently by some colleagues/people in the organization once they get to know that you don’t have GC or Citizenship, I’m not making this up; this is from my own personal experience. Give up your GC and work on H1B (India) and you’ll know.

I work for AWS for past 2.5 years and my compensation has went up 90%. This includes one promotion and internal transfer to a new role. At start I was making ~95K and I admit I was not happy with my promotion increment so I switched to a different role in same company.

@@mathewabraham3278 Experpience does not matter a lot. But as 10 years experienced candidate, I would apply for Sr. SA and that get you about $280K in non premium markets. In California, it might be more.

Let me send you here: PM questions: What's your favorite product and why? Tell me about a time you handled a difficult stakeholder. Tell me about a time you made a mistake. Friend requests are down 10%, what would you do? Design a product for drivers driving in rush hour. Estimate the number of restaurants in San Francisco. Tell me about a time you disagreed with someone and how you resolved it. How would you handle negative user feedback about the product you manage, and how might you address it with the engineering team? You're the PM for Facebook Reactions. Reactions are up 20% but comments are down 10%. What would you do? If you were the PM for Lyft, what dashboard would you build to track health of the app? Tell me about a time when you solved a complex problem and how you went about it? What are the top 3 apps that you would consider most effective? Why? How would you design price alert notifications for the Coinbase app? What type of travel product will you build for Facebook or Google? If you were PM for Twitter Space, how would you improve it? How would you design revenue model for Twitter? Design a LinkedIn for blue collar workers Design an alarm clock for blind people What happens when you navigate to a website? (This was technical in nature) Design a touchscreen table for a restaurant. Design a refrigerator for kids. Design a risk management plan for a data center. Hi Yudi! Just found that my suitcase(23kgs) was stolen in our apartment. It was delivered by qatar through fedex at our apartment. Some one broke into and had stolen it. 😐 I heard through someone that if you face any such experiences in your during F1, it’ll be usefull in some way to H1B is it ?

Take experience atleast for 2 yrs and then move abroad to work or get masters and do work. Middle east and Europe is dieing to hire skillful mech engineers. Ya in mech field india is becoming worse. People get jobs easily bt not much salary. Do career in those fields where ur interested. If u love mech do job in that field.

Firstly, great job by Yudi in offering insight to folks. Just a bit of my perspective. I'm a US raised NRI who went to Carnegie Mellon (Computer Engineering) for undergrad and currently attend an M7 MBA school part time. I've have working for a Telco as a IoT solution architect the past 4 years, and have just pivoted into Management Consulting. Not all of us are meant for coding jobs, and the options Yudi pointed out are great, but imo quite underpaid for those who are aggressive and aspirational. BEFORE you pivot away from a deeper technical role (Soln Architect, SWE, SWD etc.), make sure you are really interested to exit and are not just doing it to avoid coding/technical work you've been doing. I've got many friends and family members who pivoted just to avoid coding and have regretted it. I personally found that I was just getting bored and not challenged at my company as a soln architect. Consulting at a big four or even boutique firm presents you with diverse challenges and scenarios you will not experience otherwise in traditional tech jobs. In my new role as a technology management consultant, I have an excellent TC ahead of my YoE from a FAANG standard (at par with a ICT4/5 at Apple), but it comes at the cost of sometimes 65+ hour work weeks, so beware of that. In addition, as a mgmt consultant you can pursue unique exit strategies and get into advisory/strategy/corporate/tech leadership roles at top MNCs and startups alike. I have seen and met with tons of folks who have done so at a much younger age than one who has grown to the role traditionally would due to the diversity and experience they've gained rapidly. Disclaimer that this is what is working for me so far and may not be for everyone lol.
