Holly I did the exact same thing with a lid for more open can except mine was on my knuckle. I was lucky it didn’t cut any tendons and luckily it did not need stitches.

something similar happened to me but with a dog food can when I was opening it, my thumb slightly touched the lid as I was trying to open it. My finger went numb, I never had that happen before.
