It's interesting that whenever a new character was added to an established sitcom, it was usually a massive failure - except for when Hymie joined Get Smart. It worked brilliantly, without taking anything away from the existing characters.

Good thing he didn't go to work for IBM , he'd be washing dishes at Denny's today.

Todd Van Hoosear Nope. It’s not what it once was. Funny tho whenever I’m talking to a older person and they see my last name and say “oh my do you know dick”??

Did you inherit any of his acting or drawing talent? My dad had one of his books on caricature, and I didn't recognize the name until I got a Get Smart box set.

@ScottyS That’s so cool! I just went over to your channel and your voice definitely has a similar rich tone to your grandfather’s. I think it’s no wonder old people immediately think of him when they find out your name. :-)

Hymie's unawareness of other people's mindsets reminds me of Patrick Warburton's character "Buddy", who was also unaware of what other people were thinking: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sNt2qqpox7OWeIk.html

I'm surprised IBM was even around back then, I would've guessed they were founded in the '70s or '80s...
@markreed3922 жыл бұрын
Actually IBM was founded in 1911. They made business machines like cash registers and adding machines.

WOW is this gag ever relevant, over 50 years later. I don't know whether that's funny or sad. IBM is more interested in AI now than it was then. Sure would have been a good investment then. Not so much now, with their shrinking earnings. That 1960s technology though, it sure puts ours to shame. Pretty pathetic when you think about it, how as sci-fi this has the same status now as it did then. People who say our technology is growing exponentially, need only to be shown Get Smart, it's better for that than Star Trek. There's literally nothing we even have today as an innovation that they didn't not just predict, but assume that secret agents probably already had by then. Like cellphones, or should I say shoephones.

Shoot, 50 years... I'm realizing I'm terminally old and I was in love with 99.

That's nothin! There's a 1927 novel by Sax Rhomer, "The Emperor Of America" where the evil spy network has cell phones: therein called "X-radio". In 1927 that advantage was enough to give you a pretty good shot at World Domination! Even better, in 1907 E. M. Forster had a short story, "The Machine Stops", where the protagonist can't get a word in with his mom because she's busy on her steam-powered Instagram channel.
