First off if you are still here watching I just want to thank you, you are a true Sampler fan and I cannot tell you how much that means to me.
I just wanted to pop in to remind you this video was filmed over the course of an entire season because that’s an important fact. Though I did want to talk a lot about how useful of a tool I think this e-bike has been for me, my main objective was to actually emphasize the importance of repetition and patience in skill building. I also kinda just wanted to put a PSA out there for all my fellow riders reminding ya that you unfortunately are not the same rider you were at the end of last Summer, so be safe out there as you start getting back out on the bike this year.
Anyway, thank you for watching, stay safe out there, and as always LFRHGS! I’ll see you again soon for another video..

Hi Alex, so about 5yrs ago I had a massive crash on a gap jump, by massive I mean I'm now an incomplete quadriplegic massive, the last feeling I have before that crash is that euphoria of being in the air on the bike and I have been living of that feeling ever since. This year, I hit a modest sized table top in my recumbent trike and got that feeling back .... not too proud to say it brought a tear to my eyes. Well done my friend and keep up the progression

I'm turning 64 this summer and didn't really start working on my jump skills until I was 60. Unfortunately it's been hard to progress, because there isn't a lot of jump options in my area. A new trail system is being built in my area that promises a couple dedicated jump lines, so maybe this will change.

I've been on and off the bike for decades, probably off moreso than on, so I'd say my skill falls comfortably within an intermediate level. I feel like I still have lots of ways to hurt myself on the trail without attempting jumps, but your videos inspire me to keep pushing my comfort zone and working on fundamental skills to one day reach that sensation of flying along the trail! Thank you for sharing your passion.

Pro tip, thanks Alex! This is my issue as I don’t get to practice enough. When I get to the bike park, 30 minutes drive, I want to ride everything and when I thing about sessioning the training jumps I am already tired! My local, rideable to, jumps are not that well built for beginners, so maybe I will have to just session the dual slalom track all day next time I go to the bike park. Push up is short so no need for an eeb. Interested to know how you get on with your acoustic bike after breaking the barriers with the eeb. 🤘

Nice work Alex. Great to see you feeling positive about your jumping. I agree, focused practice over time is what has made me be able to learn to jump - I took up mountain biking late. Having an ebike was a massive help as it makes it easier to slap laps. I just looked and I've done 334 laps of a jump trail at my nearest park on it - at 15 jumps a lap thats more than 5000 jumps on just that one trail (its not the only one there). It all adds up. I am still not great as I am naturally cautious about it. But I have cleared jumps in the last year that I never thought I would be doing.
@cornishcactus
@cornishcactus 21 күн бұрын
I use a local dirt jump park with my trail bike, the loop I do has 4 decent sized jumps ( 3 of which are doubles just off the table line if I'm brave ) and 3-4 more lumps and bumps before those. I do 40-50 laps an eve between chatting and waiting for others to go. That repetition taught me so much and a couple of years ago it just clicked one eve on about the 4th visit, I could suddenly jump with seemingly very little effort, even nose bonks for fun. Two weeks later I busted myself up on a trail and between the nerves of "I really can't crash on that hand again" and the months of lost fitness off the bike it's never clicked again even if I clear them all on a lap or two. Went this week for the first time since it closed for winter and first lap was really good, thought I might find that mojo again. A dead sailor 3 laps in killed my mood and a hefty crash for a mate later put paid to trying any more eve.

Exactly, repetition and warm up every time, people who are really good are obsessed with riding and their life revolves around laps on Dh tracks or jump tracks. I built a jump/dh track with 15 jumps a tech section and 20% grade, nothing in the area had that concentration and it had every type of jump to practice. Building and testing jumps that are unknown helped me progress the most, understand the physics to estimate accurately, and especially since all other jumps people were building are sketchy lippy and with death pits. 1 lap took 10 min so 150 jumps an hour, but that's with xc fitness and i like climbing, chill more like 100. Wonder if ebike muscle memory messes with normal bike, definitely an awesome tool to get more practice.

Hey mate, bit of unsolicited advice I noticed when watching your video, you have a very fast style of riding, scrubbing lots of jumps and pushing through them, similar to what someone would do on a race run to limit air time, so if you're chasing a bigger air time, try boosting jumps, I think it would be a good bit of fun. Considering your fast riding style on smaller jumps, you should have no problem with getting extra speed to be able to boost, and just need to practice compressing the bike up the lip, to generate more height, which is good fun. Going higher on a jump is one of the best feelings in a jump line, so give it a go.

The reason you’re struggling to mega clear that step up is clear in your footage of you going off the jump around 16:30 and 18:40. You’re only half heartedly popping off the jump, not achieving full extension with your limbs. With the speed you’re hitting that at it looks like if you got a full pop you’d send it to the bottom of the landing.
