This project wasn't quite as straight forward as I hoped it would be. After the first failed bodice I wasn't terribly diligent about filming the process of making it. So this is less of an instructional video, and more of a "join me on a stupid sewing misadventure" type video, but I still think it has some educational value...maybe...sort of ~shrugs~
Despite the fit being a bit off, the dye job a bit shoddy, and the fabric less than ideal, I do think I did a rather neat job on some of the finishing: hemming, binding, etc. So not a total loss.

I tried talking to the camera. It was very awkward, hopefully I can learn to be slightly less awkward in the future. No promises.
Edit:
In regards to COPPA and the FTC,
While I’ve worked hard to make my content accessible and enjoyable to a broad audience, my content is not intended for young children. I regularly use potentially hazardous tools to create art including open flames, heavy gauge wire, sharp pins & sewing needles, razor blades, as well as a sewing machine & serger. These are tools no child should be using unsupervised, and by extension, children should not be watching these videos without supervision. I’m so happy when parents tell me my videos inspired them to create art with their kids. I think arts and crafts are a wonderful way to connect people of all ages, but not all arts and crafts are appropriate for young children, and should not be attempted without attentive supervision and guidance.
My videos are not intended for children. To those that would suggest that anything relating to fantasy, magic, fairies, and angels must be created for children, I’d point out the existence of shows like Carnival Row, Game of Thrones, Lost Girl, True Blood(Spoiler: series contains fairies), Good Omens, Lucifer, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and many more, are compelling evidence to the contrary.
Additionally, according to KZfaq analytics less than 5% of my audience falls in the 13-17 age range (the youngest age group KZfaq analytics provides data on) and the vast majority of my audience is over 20.
Also, a little update on me: I have been going through one of the worst periods of depression I’ve experienced in quite some time. I’ve barely been able to get out of bed for the past 3 months. My mental health has all but abandoned me, my physical health is suffering, and I don’t have the means or access to seek professional help. This has contributed to the lack of updates on all of my social media platforms. However, these developments with KZfaq, COPPA, and the FTC, have been less than encouraging and this very well could mean the end of my channel.
To anyone who’s enjoyed watching my videos, thank you. It’s nice to know I’ve brought people a bit of happiness.
Thank you for all of the kind and supportive comments! I hope you continue to find inspiration and happiness through creativity and art

Young Lady. Your dress is a great one. The corset did what they do, lift and "shelves". I hope you make another. I have never made a corset. I thought boning channel stitching no thank you. But I will be muslining one in a few days while on vacation.

I plan on trying to make many more corsets in the future, they're just a little intimidating is all :P All that fitting and structural stuff is tricky. Good luck on your muslin! Are you making a set of stays, an underbust, or an overbust? I hope it turns out well! If you have an Instagram tag it #forgottentrinkets, I'd love to see it :)

I'm a massive fan of corsets, but I'm hopeless at sewing. If you're interested in historical costuming and learning corsetry, maybe you should check out Foundations Revealed. They've got a bunch of free articles at different skill levels, as well as a paid section ($30/month) for access to all of their articles (which is probably unnecessary unless you decide to really jump in head over heels). As for being unhappy with the dress, it looks great. I've broken three sewing machines attempting to learn to sew - you've got me impressed!

I love Foundations Revealed! I can't afford they're paid section, but I really want to enter they're yearly corset competition, once I've improved my sewing and fitting skills. I've still got so much to learn, before tackling such an advanced project.

I agree with everyone else, you created a gorgeous dress. If only you had worn your butterfly wings with it in the clip. I wish my sewing fails turned out as well as yours! I hope your next project turns out the way you'd like.

I made the wings a while after the I made dress and this video, but they were designed to go together :) along with a few other accessories in a blue morpho inspired fairy ensemble. I'm hoping to put together a couple good photos of the finished costume and post them here, or on my blog.

Typical of an artist, you are too hard on yourself! I understand that you didn't create what you'd envisioned, exactly. However, it turned out beautiful from this spectator's view! It's pretty sexy, too. There may be add-ons that you devise that make it more often-usable around the bodice. Since it is a semi-period design you may like to add a modified Tudor-esk partlet that sits over your shoulders and joins the bust-line in some way. And since you like wings, you may use the partlet as joining point for something fantastical. That said, it doesn't need anything at all. It is beautiful and it is beautiful on you!

Thank you so much for saying that! You have no idea how encouraging it is :) I don't know about you, but whenever I hear my own voice played back I think 'Yikes! maybe I should skip the VO and just have music?' I really want to work on getting better, but listening to myself can get so cringy its hard to make progress

It is beautiful! I love the stripy, gradient blue and especially the bodice. The top might be a bit loose or it might just be the straps. If you want more support there, you could try shortening the straps or using thicker ones. I can see why you might think it is impractical, but I think it is definitely worth it to turn a bedsheet into a fancy dress. I think you could probably get a few wears out of it for formal events and parties. Everyone will think it is a designer piece. I think I might try the stay tutorial for my own stripy bodice.

Personally, I think it's gorgeous. Yes, you pop out the top, but that can be fixed. And you used a sheet, not like you bought $24/yard silk and ended up messing it up. All things considered, you did well and you learned new things that can be applied to future projects. Seems like a win.

*dies* I get how you feel. I would not pay $24 a yard for a fabric that I would be experimenting on and totally messing up. Somehow I got silk for about $2 a yard. If I had my way, I would have bought all the bolts (excluding the dupioni) in all of the lovely iridescent colors, but then what would be expensive and impractical. The only thing that I can imagine doing with all of that would be to somehow open some kind of high-end dress shop. XD Even as I am saying that, I used that very silk and organza (two difficult/slippery fabrics) for one of my first sewing projects. It ended up being a bit of a disaster, but I hope I can soon overcome my fear of messing it up even more and fix everything I did wrong.

That was fun to watch, nice job! In the video you reference somebody's blog that you used for the bodice, I would love to know more about that and the technique you use to make it. Can you share the link please ? Thanks!

Link in the description :) also right here sidneyeileen.com/sewing-2/sewing/corset-drafting/conical-block-torso/#.WYIp8caZPox As far as technique goes, this project was more of a sew & hope for the best approach. I cut out the bodice with the center front on grain from a canvas layer for strength, a cotton interlining to create the boning channels, and used the striped duvet cover fabric as outer layer. I didn't document the process terribly well because I had limited time, but there are a ton of great historical costumery blogs that have way better more detailed construction methods, including Sidney Eileen's, and American Duchess. Hope that helps answer your question

In the beginning of your video, you were critical of yourself, skills and gifts. Why? Why haven't you taken a closer look? Your work is very lovely. Including the piece that you were "ashamed" of. I'd like to explore more of your uploads, but goodness, please give yourself a break with the criticisms. None of us are perfect. We become better as you obviously have and don't realize. Keep up the good work. It's sweet.....
