maybe it was the bumper clipping thru the trunk lid as you tried to place it back in it's position... this game doesn't seem to be able to handle object collisions when they happen. Same reason the trunk closed with the snow-man's head in there caused your vehicle to basically stick to the ground... & when u opened it u had no issues driving.
