There's a sneaky hidden value that stems from not having the funds to buy a ready to go sailboat, having courage to be a beginner moving forward anyhow taking on such a daunting project. It is the education and skills you will build out of necessity along the way that you will carry for the rest of your life. Not to mention the fortitude gained through experience to take on other intimidating ventures.

A way to fill the holes deeper is to be ready with needled syringe, plaster on your epoxy, syringe air out from the hole spot, plaster again, syringe again, plaster again, etc till you can't suck any more air out with he syringe. Having a large width needle, comparatively to medical size ones, on it is essential though.

Kia Ora lad. A pal of mine was restoring a 40ft boat in a huge shed, a chap started to build a 45ft boat alongside. The new build was finished and in the water way ahead of my pals. Professional boat builders tell me it’s always cheaper, easier, quicker to build new! I know you don’t want to hear this so please carry on entertaining those of us watching. Rog

Next time you put tape on a drill simply fold one short length around the drill so it looks like a flag. The spinning flag will sweep the swarf away when you reach the required depth. Much easier to see.

Instead of buying an expensive thick piece of timber then spending ages machining the middle out & turning it into chips may I suggest an alternative. buy a thinner timber. Then cut the old rail into 2 thin strips which you pin & glue on to the sides of the new wood. Actually if your new plank was wide enough you could have cut the strips from the extra width. But with the 2 strips fitted you automatically have the groove. No wear & tear on the tools. Quicker to do. You have everything encased in epoxy so no problem with the joints.

Just a suggestion but I would consider tightening your spring lines and the bow and stern lines. Keep these lines long and tight. Consider also making the lines fixed at the dock and controlling them, tightening and loosening, on the boat. This will keep your yacht from moving side to side and away from the dock while working on the boat.

Nice work mate, you’ll really thank yourself down the track for taking the time to get things right as you seem to be doing. For what it’s worth a “toe rail” (ie not" tow rear”) is a rail around a deck that quite literally gives you something to hang onto with your toes, particularly on a monohull when the boat is heeling.

A trick to get the air out from behind an area your filling is to use a stirring straw and a syringe to suck the air out. You can do it while filling if you have help, but it works wonders for holes need filing.

Plane with the plank, always, to avoid all the chipouts. A belt sander or disc sander works well for grinding out scarf joints.... I know there's a formula for scarf joints but I usually apply 2x the width or more is better.

Dear Wildling Sailing Mark 👍👌👏 You get better and better with almost every episode. This new tow rail is a masterpiece. Fits perfectly well and is extremely sturdy. Additionally your parents are more proud of you by every episode. Congratulations for both! 🎉 What a pity that the gaskets for the lower part of the outboard motor hadn't been in the set (therefore it's not what I call a set). Unfortunately the rainy weather doesn't help either. Hope you will be able to have the cat in dry land soon. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health in particular.

Now that was nice! The only thought (with reference "Raft Contiki) About an explorer who built a raft with rope, and found he spent a great deal of time tightening every thing up. Hoping you have something better in mind for those big supports that rope. Can't wait for launch. Looks like "sailing Yaba" is going to beat you to the water, But they are into their 3rd year I believe.

Contiki and Rha both used traditional ropes modern ropes may not stretch the same even dyneema can be had in pre-stretched form. That said the sort of lines you need for mooring lines and anchor bridals need to be stretchy to a point to limit sudden snatching forces to the deck fixings when the waters rough.
