Und....? Were you expecting that? I hope you all enjoyed getting to know me, doing my "day job"! The only show I´ll have this Summer, as the effects of all the cancellations due to the various lockdowns are still affecting my calender! So expect more videos and please know how much I appreciate each and every one who subscribes and likes - your support means the world to me! A huge thanks to Klangfrisch, who sent journalist Lissi Savin/WFB who filmed the excerpts that I used in this video, (thank you, Lissi!), to the Seebühne Bremen for making us all so welcome and providing fantastic conditions to perform, and - last but most definitely not least - to Hilmar from Kulturgipfel, for making all of this possible!

Statues of Roland can be found in various European cities, and this stone one, the Bremer Roland, is one of the oldest. Often these statues are of mythical Roland, but this one refers to an historical figure, who was a companion of Emperor Charlemagne. This statue reminds everyone that the emperor is the founder of the city, and the one who gave it rights and privileges.

You never disappoint in your vlogs dear Lauren. This time the beautiful Hanseatic city of Bremen the biggest rival of Hamburg. The old town of Bremen is really beautiful and lets us guess how Bremen must have looked as a whole concept before 1939. The town hall square can also guess what wealth these port cities have accumulated in their heyday as so many other port cities throughout Europe. Bremen was for a long time more important than Hamburg and also the starting point (Bishop of Bremen) of the missionary work in Scandinavia. There is an event in Bremen which is the oldest "Brudermahl" in the world and that is the "Schaffermahl" (1545) where the shipowners, merchants and their captains meet for a big meal (5 course menu) in the town hall. Donations are collected at the same time. We Lower Saxons have an ambivalent relationship with Charlemagne :-) (blood court of Verden where 4500 Saxons are said to have been executed in one day) but Roland (as a knight) stands for absolute loyalty, sacrifice and chivalry. Many greetings from the neighboring city of Oldenburg dear Lauren.

Another great video. I like the mix of telling about a city’s history and some local legends. Everybody know the Bremer Stadtmusikanten and not everybody know Bremen itself. Fun fact, the city of Braunfels has a nice oldtown and a 19th century castle where a fairy tale movie was filmed by the ZDF. Funfact, the small town of Villmar, not worth a visit, got a bridge made of marble and the marble of the region was partly used for Empire State Building in New York City. The Region marble can also be found in the Eremitage in St. Petersburg. I like you upload positive things to enjoy. The world is full of negativ things, so it’s good to focus on the opposite and show them. I like the church bells thing. You should do more inn your videos. Many pretty sounding church bells here in Germany. But my favorite are the bells of Straßburg in France. The bells of the cathedral of Speyer and the bells of Limburg cathedral and the bells of a small German town called Niederselters. Not worth a visit, although the most famous German water comes from here. If you can’t visit all the places I named in my comments, the I recommended watching videos about the places here in yt.

Ah, I found your Bremen Video! ;-) And you found the Schnoor as one can see. Now it all comes together; I noticed your versatile aristic talents right in the first few videos I watched and I asked myself what it would be about this - so you are a lovely, radiant soprano! What a strong and bright voice, and at the same time so very light and airy! I also had some classical training (Mezzosopran /Mozart, Bach, Händel and old english song), but that was just a hobby, not professional education. The teacher was, but not I myself. I got vocal training and lessons for 9 years and alongside sung in some choirs. In my young 30ies I "collected" some good traditional musicians in Bremer Irish Pubs and we rehearsed my program that I had developed for a celtic concert. It was irish and scottish songs, ballads and instrumental pieces from 1600 to1900 and, of course, all that lovely stories about the songs. Our first concert was in Haus Blomendal! 🙂 So lovely that you tour through all those beautiful cities and have your performances here and there and everywhere. I am sure it must be fun to meet so many different people while working! I wish you all the best in every way, also good health for your beautiful voice whenever there`s a stage. You sound very beautiful, what a flexible voice and technique! But you also are such a good storyteller and filmmaker! As it often happens, many artists do own some more talents and gifts, not just "that single one". Your energy can be felt beautifully through your art, no matter what you are doing. Your videos make such a difference. What I like the most is the calm and relaxing presentation and way of filming - slow and without wiggeling, so that one really can see all before the camera shows the next view and detail. Mostly such things are filmed much too fast, and the music is terrible and does not fit the scenery and place. Your choice of music, but also your way of speaking are extremely wonderful. Your videos are full of love for the old stones and walls and the environment, it is strongly noticeable in every part of your videos. I surely will introduce your videos to a friend, she will love them, I am sure! 🙂

@@LaureninGermany I understand this so well, haha! All must be perfect because ... it`s possible and we can do it! ;-) We are not content until we give our very best! 🙂 Singing: Unfortunately I got a chronic illness, so I had to quit singing totally. It went all very fast, I lost the clearness of voice together with breathing condition, so I wasn`t able to do techniques properly anymore. That was some years ago, but when talking about it I still could cry and sometimes do. Singing was everything to me, it was a part of my soul, although I have never been a professionell singer. Now I write novels and will publish the first part of five of a big novel as my debut in winter - I tell stories, haha! ;-) We really seem to have much in common! Singing / music, theatre, psychology, social, paranormal and mystic themes, historical architecture, nature and celtic themes & music (two of my novels I am still working on have their settings in Ireland and have Irish mythology or a piece of important Irish history) ... I cannot do all at once - I am sure this is also a thing you know quite well! ;-) But writing has become my dearest and most precious thing since I cannot sing anymore. I try to become a professionell writer, have been working for six years on it.

Hansa Stadt, a City of The Hanseatic League. Not so much a guild as it was a sort of commonwealth of cities engaged in maritime trade. The Hanseatic League reached from Denmark to France, covering the Low Countries…as I can recall from when we learnt about this entity in Grundschule in München….about a hundred years ago.

Damn, I was just there last week, picking up my car in Bremerhaven. Was there for couple days, wish Id seen your video ,I wouldve tried visiting all those nice place showned. It was a tale of 2 cities for me. One side which was near Hautbanhauf , that so was ghetto, you could poverty, crime and drug use on the streets. Other side was nice like what you shown here in the video. I wish I had seen this and check out those places . Definitely try next time.

When I was watching the first time, I did not hear you saying the sentence (at 8:47 ) "...Harry Potter style street" but for myself I thought from 11:07 wow, that looks absolutely like Hogsmeade and at 13:58 that's Knockturn Alley. Hope you have seen once the Leavesden Studios from Harry Potter, one of the most stunning things I ever saw in my life, ... all the props... And I am so happy that I could experience in my life often being in the town where Rowling grew up and saw the house where she lived and many buildings and places around that, which are just like in Harry Potter, so a lot of her inspirations were just 1:1 from real life, e.g. the graveyard right beside her childhood house was fully like that one in Godric's Hollow. That you are an opera singer... that meant something special to me, as sometimes in my job I have to do something with opera singers... (maybe later more, will not reveil my employer in public)

Thank you for this wonderful, peaceful video. I love how you take your time to show appreciation for the beautiful places in Bremen. I have been watching a ton of travel videos lately in preparation for my upcoming trip to Germany. They are mostly well-photographed, but I think they all use the same music library! Some kind of chipmunks chanting over a synthesizer! Or worse, a montage with loud obnoxious house music before each location switch. The cadence of your videos is engaging and far more pleasant. By the way, great job on Lübeck as well. My mother grew up there. :)

Hello Brian, thank you so much for your lovely comment! That was so nice to see. Yes, the music is very important to me, especially coupled with such beautiful architecture or nature scenes. How exciting that you´ll be visiting soon. I must say, your name is very Welsh, possibly from your father´s side, then, as your mother comes from beautiful Lübeck?

@@LaureninGermany Hi Lauren! Yes, I am excited to come back to Germany, and I will stay in Bremen for a few days in early September. My heritage may well be Welsh. In younger years I had red hair. There is an orphan on my father's side several generations back, so my deep British history is lost to me, although my Grandmother was DAR and Mayflower Society. On my mother's side there is a chronicle going back several hundred years, so I'm very sure I'm half German :)

The video makes Bremen look more beautiful than it really is. Sadly, most of the city consists of rather uninspired post war cr*p architecture. Only a few small corners are pleasing to the eye.

Well, I do tend to head for the pretty parts, it´s true. I try not to present a place in a way so that if someone goes there they´d be disappointed by the reality. That´s why I focus a lot on details - to try to help people see those. There is always a lot of cr*p, you´re right. But on my channel, I´m focusing on the beautiful bits. Fot this reason, I won´t film a vlog before I´ve drunk a coffee and transformed into a human from the caffeine-deprived gorgon I am when I wake up...
