I love your content, and this concern is not necessarily specific to you (as I haven't seen all of your videos) but, there's always a piece that is missing as to the standard things you need to do (outside of marrying, being Jamaican, starting a business, or being a student) where some of us fall into none of those categories but want to live there. Is moving to Jamaica really realistic for us? With Jamaica, it just always seems that the information in that regard is very vague, hush-hush, disjointed, or romanticized. We talk about the beauty, the healing, the warmth, the food, etc. but once you get past that, how do you take the steps to actually stay (outside of being married to a Jamaican, being of Jamaican lineage, having dual citizenship, being a student, or starting a business)? I've seen so much content on this where people are "working" and moved to Jamaica(not this video, but others) and it just frustrates me. Her story is inspirational, so I'm not knocking this video at all. I guess my frustration is with the storytelling and the lack of representation of the community that I represent, who loves Jamaica and wants to relocate, which leads me to believe that moving there is just not a feasible option for everyday professionals like it is in other countries. Am I wrong?

Hi, I feel your frustrations. I do think if you want to take the step of moving to the Caribbean and you don't have the standard options (descent/student/marriage) it does force you to do things outside of the standard ways of operating. Around of half of the Jamaica stories I've featured aren't of Jamaican descent but 100% they chose to do things differently and didn't move with the hope of finding a job - they created their own opportunities and accepted the risks that came with this. Maybe you could check out the Black Expats and Repats in Jamaica group. It's a spectacular resource but I think its members will also advise you that the chances of finding a job on the island as a foreigner are rather slim (not impossible though). berjamaica.com/ Hope that helps 🙂

@@ExodusCollective Thank you for this! It's a very positive, real, and specific answer to my question! Thank you! Also, I'm a freelancer (remote) so I can work from anywhere in the world. It's the legal ability to "stay" versus coming back and forth that's at the core of my frustration. You're right. Maybe I need to look into other ways and accept that that's what's required for Jamaica. I just feel so pulled to move there. I can't shake it! Thanks again!

@@grownandtravelingjatv5985 I get your concerns 100%. What's your nationality? Could you apply for any other Caribbean passport by descent? That could give you the right of establishment in Jamaica under certain conditions. Otherwise, I do know of African Americans who've set up businesses in Jamaica and are able to stay in the country for this reason.
