How the hell have I ended up here?

My life has been forever changed after watching this inspirational video. Before I watched it I was a 39 year old man who still lived in his childhood bedroom. But after watching this it gave me the inner strength to pack my stuff and move to the basement. There is so much more room for activities down there. Thanks Potato Slicer Can dude!

Someone said it is a cheap project? Hmmm, $9.95 for long bolt, screws, nuts, and washers, $1.79 can of peaches, $2.25 coke, $5.95 for razor blade cutter, $49.95 heat gun, $75.50 power drill, and a couple of other things. This compared to a spiral slicer at Walmart for less than $20. No, it is not a cheap way to do it!

I never fully realized what an unfulfilled life I had until I spent 16 hours building this and while rotating the last part of the potato sliced off the end of my index finger and thumb. Now I have encountered complete satisfaction of life.

This video gets the Guinness record on the number of expensive, high powered tools needed for a single tin can while not affording a descent can opener 😊

Awesome...TIP, they have tin can openers now that leave all the edges smooth to the touch, no extra work in smoothing and no cuts!!

There is a much simpler way to do this with a kitchen tool invented by a chef back in the early 50s. A long 'screw-like' center piece with a blade attached to it with a handle that is does exactly the same thing that is simply 'screwed' into the potato. If you cut through on side the finished string of potatoes to the center you also get another presentation of potatoes. I still have one of them and it works great.

Quite a bit of trouble but neat. You know there are hand can openers that break the seal which leaves no sharp edges.

I was thinking this was going to be some type of bird feeder. I used to have a very simple kitchen gadget that would cut potatoes, zucchini, etc into spirals. It was metal with a screw type thing attached that went into the vegetable and a semi-circular blade with a hole in it that you put your finger then just turn the blade around like a pinwheel (or dialing an old rotary phone) and it cuts the spirals.

He has all the tools but the right one for the job

Going out to make one now !! I only need a Drill,Table top sander,dremmel,ink pen,drill bits,knife, length of threaded bar,nuts washers,green gloves,screws, OH AND A CAN OF POTATOES !!

Great suggestion. Might I suggest you invest in a more modern can opener? Even a 20th century one would do the job safely and remove the need for the pliers to make the edges safe.

It might only take 3minutes but not everyone has all the tools it takes.

I'd never have believed that I could, just by buying and learning how to use $2000 worth of power tools, and by buying another few hundred dollars worth of all-thread and other materials, I could transform a can and plastic two-liter soda bottle into something that could make spiral-cut potatoes!

For the amount of time and materials this took I could drive to Walmart and get one for $2.49.

I saw this , and then i went to my garage! I looked at my drill, angle grinder along with all the other tools in there. I then got in my car , and went to arby's . Got a roast beef , and some CURLY fries.

Couch potato tunes in. "Hey, I might be able to do this! All I need is an old time can opener! And a snips. And a craft knife. And a pliers. And a marker. And an electric drill. An a mini whatyamightcallit. And a screwdriver. And a file. And a heat gun, and a vice, and a butane burner, and an angle grinder and a workbench, and a workshop sander and a gluegun and a pipe cutter.... and a tube of glue. But I only ever eat takeaway so no cans, damn it!" Nice little video though.

Good idea mate. In this day and age people are just going broke, start showing people more of this.
