The information I was able to find about this property is interesting. What happened was, the original owners downsized about 12 years ago and moved into a smaller home further north of where this home is. Before retiring, the husband worked for the municipality where this home is located and, unfortunately, he died unexpectedly just two years after moving out. Likely a heart attack given his age. His wife is still alive (and likely in her early-mid 80s now). The new owners renovated this home and attempted to rent in/sell it several times over the next ten years with little to no success. It was/is listed for a very expensive price as it sits on a large piece of land, however obviously it is not worth what the current owners are expecting due to their lack of success on the market.

It's so sad that this home is the victim of greed. Originally loved, purchased by someone with no intention of living in it. Thank you so much for the history you researched. I hope his widow is doing okay. It must break her heart if she knows of it's current state.

The house next to use used to be abandoned. The owners were in a nursing home and for some reason it wasn’t being sold. For 8 yrs no one lived there, but someone was paying to have it mowed and kept the power on. Not sure who or why, but I’m guessing it has something to do with city regulations etc.

@@kathyrobertson4493 I agree. In my childhood home, same vintage (early 60s as I believe this home is going by all the original details), we had the harvest gold appliances. The kitchen cabinets are not original though, they look like 80s whereas the tile looks older, mid 70s. The appliances in the basement kitchen though, especially the stove could be original to the house.

Awesome house! I feel like with the mowed lawn, electric still on, and newer fridge, it's more "recently empty" rather than abandoned. Curious about the typed sign inside of the front door ("Please hold both door handles to open door"). That definitely doesn't feel like something a homeowner would put in their own house.

@Noah.Nowhere I HAVE to comment on this video. I'm pretty confident this home was built in the early to mid-60s. I say that because it has so many features that were prevalent in my childhood home that was built in 1963 & neighbourhood that was built within that window. The front door, the cedar shakes outside, heck even the door bell to the left of the front door is vintage of this era. How do I know? My childhood bungalow had the cedar shakes on the outside by the living room window & then by the bathroom / my bedroom window. The front door is very similar to what the bungalow next door had, only without the glass inserts. That is a cedar door. The glass blocks as the side lights would've been added in the 80s, just as my parents had done to our house during a major reno in 1987 - they had a glass block window installed on the front (ugly as hell, I hated it just as much now as I did back then when I was 13! But glass blocks were very much a popular trend in the 80s). I just sold my childhood home as POA for my widowed mother who has dementia. It was very hard to let it go after it being ours since 1971. The vintage door bell I swapped out & took with me before we sold it. It is identical to the one in this house except mine is black with a silver circle. It still works beautifully & will be installed in our home as it still works great. And seeing it reminds me of my childhood. Sorry to go on but I had to add my two cents from experience. This abandoned home would've been built early to mid 60s like mine was. Homes built in the late 70s / early 80s had very different features. I am sad this home is abandoned. What a beauty & what a waste. I hope a lot of the wood gets salvaged & restored.

No, I am pretty sure this home never had central AC. It just wasn't common in the 60s (when this home was built) or 70s. I grew up in the GTA - my childhood home is the same vintage as this one. We didn't get central AC until the early 80s. We didn't even have the window shakers as this house has, we only had fans & open windows & still sweated our butts off with the humidity! These window shakers are old, as in from the early 80s. My own first home was a sidesplit built in '66 & I was able to speak to the original owner who told me it didn't get central AC until the 1980s.

I don’t know where this house is, but it doesn’t have central AC. That’s a big minus to me with global warming staring us in the face. I watch a lot of these exploration videos and I’m always surprised that the explorers don’t seem to have much basic knowledge about houses and timelines. No offense, but that lamp is nowhere near art deco. The 1920s were the heyday of art deco. There is no wainscoting in this house, just cheap paneling. I think the house could be updated and turned into a great place for a family to live. I’m 72 and to me, this is a very ordinary 1970s tract home. I’m currently removing so many of the features you like. The fireplace is a wood stove. These ranchers were built when land was plentiful and relatively cheap. I think this house could have been made into a nice home, but from my experience, there is nothing unique about it.
@kburke9615
@kburke9615 Күн бұрын
I don't know where you are located, but it does not seem like you are in the southern Ontario area of Canada. I know the municipality that this home is located in, I grew up & spent most of my life about an hour south west of it where my childhood home is located. This home is not what we call a ranch bungalow here in my neck of the woods. My childhood home is, which is a straight bungalow with no other shape to it other than rectangular. This home is not from the 70s either, I am 99 % sure it was built in the early to mid 60s like when my childhood home & neighbourhood was, 1963 to be exact. The cedar shakes on the outside walls, framed by brick were very common in the 60s as was that style of front cedar door. Again, my childhood home had it. I agree with you about those wall sconces, they are not art deco, rather ugly 80s style just like the glass blocks on the right side of the front door. My parents had a glass block window installed on our house during a major reno in 1987. It was very trendy back in the 80s & I hated it then as much as I do now. I agree the house does not have central AC, never had it but again, it was not a common thing to have here when this house was built in the 60s. And this was certainly not because the summers now are hotter then back then. We had brutally hot summers when I was a kid, even the summer of 73 when my mom was pregnant with me it was often well into the 30s (degree celsius) PLUS the humidity on top of that, that is so common here. Atleast it had window shakers! We only had fans & open windows which caused many sleepless, sweaty nights until my parents had central AC installed in the early 80s. AC was not cheap, & a bit of a novelty. Also, we had Pierre Trudeau as prime minister from the late 60s to the early 80s & he decimated the economy & drove interest rates through the roof. Think like 18% mortgage rates. So this broke a lot of people financially. The wood panelling is indeed a cheap option instead of drywall. My parent's home atleast had drywall. But my own first home which was a sidesplit built in 1966, had wood paneling instead of drywall in the finished family room in the basement. I found out from it's original owner that it too did not get central AC until the early 80s.
