I just realized Three Amigos! and Galaxy Quest have the same plot. Beings think entertainment such as movies or TV shows are real and ask them for help. The actors involved are both arrogant and cocky and hilarity ensues. However in the end they end up saving the day.

This is on a shortlist of movies I can rewatch at least once a year and never gets old. You actually noticed something I never realized on your first watching: when Dusty says "I know" (what it looks like when Ned is about to die) and you immediately conclude that, yes he will probably have seen that in some of their past movies- I'd never thought about that line that way.

"They don't look like they've aged at all..." Steve Martin went grey at a very early age. Martin Short once said something like : "You've looked 65 since you were 35". The basic plot of the film is taken from The Magnificent Seven, which was in turn taken from The Seven Samurai. The Amigos themselves were a satire of the "Singing Cowboy" genre, which included people like Roy Rodgers and Gene Autry - and early in his career, John Wayne. Santa Poco means "Saint Little". "El Guapo" means "the handsome one".

Steve Martin used to order banjo stuff from the music store where I worked until it went out of business. Most of the orders went to his manager or agent's office in LA, but a few went directly to his house in Beverly Hills. One time I wrote !! Viva Los Amigos!!! on the packing slip in his order. He probably doesn't have to open his own mail, but I like to think that he saw it.

That was Chevy Chase singing. Also, dingoes are much more ferocious than coyotes. Coyotes are usually pretty timid around humans, which is why they are called COYotes. Most of the time, if they eat an animal that's much larger than them, it is because it was already dead or dying.

True story: Before becoming an actor, Steve Martin was a performer at Disneyland. Among other things, he would do rope tricks! He's actually good at it. Also, the Germans had their own reason for being in Mexico. It's a fact that Germany wanted Mexico to attack the United States, in order to keep them out of WW1, which was raging in Europe at the time. In fact a telegram to Mexico from Germany inciting Mexico was intercepted by the British and given to the Americans. It was a major factor which brought the US into that war.

She knows what actors are....acting goes back centuries after all. What she DIDN'T know was movies. Cinema is what's new in 1916. This was a take off of The Magnificent Seven (which is a western) which is taken from Akira Kurosawa's famous samurai film "Seven Samurai." Many many movies have been made off of the basic plot of "Seven Samurai", it has become a bit of a movie trope.

I’ve seen nudity being blurred out and blood and gore…but now pistols being fired has to be blurred out? Seriously? Wow…so that’s where we are now

If it keeps the video up and monetized and keeps Mary making videos, it is what it is.

Steve Martin is a good singer, and he can play the banjo really well. He has a song called " King Tut", it's really funny and quite good.

"My El Guapo is the algorithm." 🤣😂🤣 Loved that, Mary! Think it would work on a T-shirt? Thanks so much for reacting to one of my childhood favourites. It's both a comedy of errors and a parody of old Western movies, and three of the biggest comedic names of the 80s make it awesome. It makes sense that Chevy and Martin Short would play off each other so well -- they were both regulars on NBC's "Saturday Night Live", and worked together for years. Steve Martin often guest starred on that show as well. FYI: In Mexico, "gringo" is slang for a white-skinned foreigner, especially from the U.S. It's not exactly a dirty word, but it is sometimes derogatory.

Supposedly Mexican prisoners taken during the Mexican-American War would hear their captors marching in time while singing a song called "Green Grows the Grass in West Virginia", and came up with "gringos" from the first two words.

For a top notch western parody, the movie to watch is Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles."

Chevy Chase was a huge star back in the days and has a repertoire of great movies. I recommend Fletch (1985(and the sequel)) Foul Play (1978) and Nothing but trouble (1991) to name a few.

Steve Martin made it big on the early days of SNL, in 1976, when Chevy Chase was in the cast. See his early clips on that show, where he often did his standup material. One early sketch with Bill Murray was "The Elephant Guy". Martin Short was an SNL cast member in '84. This movie was co-written and produced by SNL creator and head Lorne Michaels.

In those days in Mexico they probably only saw news reels in the theater so seeing this it's understandable that she might think it's real.
