Those officials for what ever reason both on and off the pitch. Had the full intention that the result of that game was the result of the game. Liverpool where never meant to win that game and they made it happen.

Who remembers when Man Utd were given a penalty vs Brighton even though the game had ended? It's stupid that they couldn't stop the game. This is just absurd. The best example of assisted officiating is in cricket, the communication between the third umpire and the on-field umpire is so clear. There's no chance of something like this happening.

They should never say check complete.. it should only be onside onside, goal given or offside offside, goal disallowed..

If a fan runs onto the pitch the game is stopped until the fan is removed, and the game is then restarted. Therefore, why can't they stop the game if the VAR tells the ref a mistake has happened and he needs to stop the game? Any football fan, not just Liverpool fans, know that what happened is an injustice.

To avoid the confusion the public VAR screens merely had to display 'ONSIDE' rather than 'CHECK COMPLETE'

Just like in aviation, they need standardized communication and wording so that there are no misunderstandings. No confusion, no ego, no BS, no misunderstanding and everyone knows what to do. There are almost no mistakes in air traffic control. Simple training , standardization and regulation of communication could solve the problem.

I agree that other clubs need to get involved as this is unavoidable in a pro league worth billions. The VAR officials sounded like they were too busy to bother looking. The PL needs to follow Rugby on this. Clear intelligent explanation.

Why couldnt we hear the ref or the fourth official? Surely the ref asks to confirm the outcome? To make sure he heard it correctly

Always had a feeling EPL was rigged. These mistakes I feel are premeditated. This is not SH first blunder, and its not refereeing first blunder. They keep happening. Feeling very sad for Liverpool being robbed of a potential win, and I’m not a Liverpool fan.

Spot on again Mark totally agree with all you say. I hope Liverpool pursue this all the way. The very idea of football is to score goals so when a goal is scored and officials say it wasn't a goal when it clearly was...what is the point of competing!

It shows that VAR can work with the people behind it, but it needs to be the RIGHT people. Cause if some of them can't figure out the correct course of action, then there is no chance VAR will succeed.

The more worrying issue is if they can’t get a factual decision correct such as offside, how can anyone trust the hundreds of decisions that have been made on subjective incidents such as penalties and red cards?

Don’t blame the VAR technology for this. Get competent refs to operate it with a proper system and it will work out very well. Look at other top leagues in Europe, I don’t see anyone complaining in those. Yet this is the best league in the world and can’t fix the officiating.
