Ooh, you’re taking me back to my mama’s tortillas! Every morning she made us bacon and egg or potato and egg wrapped in a steamy homemade tortilla. We’d eat them while we waited for the school bus. Mama would give us some for the bus driver too-no wonder the bus driver was so kind to us! Mama would feed her tacos to my little brother’s football buddies when they’d stop by for lunch. She learned to make tortillas when she was a young girl so when I get to Heaven I’m gonna have to ask Jesus how many tortillas she made in her lifetime! What a blessing 😊

I was born and raised in Tucson. We could easily buy fresh, tortillas that really tasted homemade. I live in Kansas now and cannot find fresh tortillas anywhere. Just the fat, fluffy ones that taste like just fried flour. I occasionally make my own. It's a little time consuming but so worth it. Whenever I go back I buy several dozen and give my adult children some. We put everything in tortillas. Favorite of the kids when little - pb&j of course!

@@kathibecker5351 oh yes! Pb&j tortillas were a favorite at our house too. Dad showed us how to tear the tortilla into triangles to scoop up our beans so we didn’t even need a spoon as long as Mom kept those tortillas coming, haha. Such good memories! I’m glad Pam is teaching people how to make them.

As a kid in the late 1950s, our next door neighbor made awesome tortillas that were not the thin kind we find on stores now. Hers puffed up, had well browned bubbles on both sides. They were made with lard. She would call me to tell me she was making them. I rushed over as quick as I could to get them hot from the cast iron pan, then I slathered real butter on them. YUM!

Here in Texas, you can go to HEB and they will sell you that kind of tortilla and it is all ready to cook. They are a lot better than the precooked bags of tortillas. They puff up too and they are super easy to heat.

I lived next door to Mr and Mrs Garcia in Santa Fe NM. She made homemade tortillas that were not as thin and were to die for! These will be great for Burritos and soft tacos for sure. My mother in law used Masa Trigo for her tortillas and then we couldn't find it on the shelf at the stores. It was a wonderful mix for tortillas. I miss them both so much and their cooking ❤

Hi Pam! Here’s a cheats trick for you! To lightly flour your surface without upsetting the flour content of your dough, simply use a tea strainer. Put some flour into a tub and scoop up the flour with your strainer and use that to flour your surface and/or your rolling pin. I learned this trick from a baker.

PAM I am a first born American of Mexican and Chinese descent. My beloved Ma' Maria made flour tortillas all her life ...daily she would make tortillas for breakfast lunch and dinner...100 each time. She would have me knead the dough or turn the tortillas with my fingers...always saying "no man is going to marry you because you don't even know how to make tortillas". I never learned how to cook, bake or make tortillas. By 45 years old I was still unmarried...I blame it on not being able to make those darn tortillas.😅 I watched you make those tortillas so easily ..this morning I went and bought the flour and baking powder...I followed your instructions and made me 4 tasty tortillas that looked like maps but nevertheless they held my refried beans and cheese real well. Can't wait on Sunday to show off my tortillas to my ex houseeper and her husband. Thanks, PAM...now I will try to learn how to make that bread. BLESSINGS TO ALL MANKIND.

I bought special organic masa flour to make these. I LOVE tortillas. When I had a gas stove, I'd lightly toast both sides, tear it into strips, and dip into cheese sauce. You can also cut tortillas and fry them to be chips. Another way I like them is to spread a little oil, top with spinach and goat cheese, then put in the oven until lightly toasted. Yum! Tortillas are my guilty pleasure. 🤗

I make mine pretty thick, and they are chewy. We like them that way. I do use lard, not olive oil. Also cook them on a screaming hot cast iron griddle. If they cook too slowly they will turn into rocks. Got the recipe from a really sweet Mexican neighbor. I really wish I had gotten the recipe for steak and potato filling before she passed. It was the best I ever had. She would use whatever beef roast she found on sale, and they were so tender and tasty. I remember she would cube the meat, and braise it on the stove top. That's all I know . Haven't been able to find a recipe that uses her method.

These taste better than anything at a store. Our daughter has an auto immune disorder and can only eat protein, meat, eggs, cheeses and low temp pasteurized milk. She was missing tacos and found a crunchy taco shell made out of shredded mozzarella cheese! The recipe is 1/4 cup freshly shredded mozzarella cheese placed on a piece of parchment paper on a dinner plate spread in a circle. Cooked in a microwave for 1 min and 25 seconds. Take out, using the paper fold over a wooden spoon handle or a taco holder till dry. These are so satisfying for her. Her family enjoys them too. Try this I know you’ll love them! Raising 1/2 a dozen youngin's far away from a town by myself I'm became a well seasoned cook of everything homemade with what l have on hand, a magic meal maker! Except I have tried many times to make homemade tortillas because after years of not buying it l can't eat store breads. I have mixes and other flours. This will be my last attempt. I have a good feeling. Y'all wish me luck ❤

Olive oil doesn't work as well as lard. I know alot of people don't like using the lard...BUT trust me. My tortillia recipe goes back 200 years maybe more. The tortillia needs to have a little more darker brown pillows, unfortunately the olive oil, even though it's appears to be more healthy, tends to make your 'tortillas' too moist. Tortillas need to be "airy" and fluffy. Don't get me wrong, those look yummy. But I'm not sure I would put fresh frejoles and rice in the them to eat right out of the comal

Thanks so much for sharing how we can help ourselves without resorting to the store bought packages. I have always been concerned with the many, many additives to so many products. I would read them smiling and put them back on the shelf.

Glad you tried making flour tortillas Ms. PAM as a little kid when my mom would make them by scratch we would be playing out in the backyard and we would smell them we would run back up the stairs and go in the back 🚪 and saw my mom we would ask her can we have 1 she would say not yet my mom would make a stack of 100 flour tortillas because we were alot of kids once she would get her stack high enough then she would let us have 1 each but before she gave it to us she would slap some 🧈 on each ine and it would drip because it was hot it was the BEST snack ever then after a while she would make supper then we would eat them all up for supper BEST memories
