Great insight from chael as always . It really makes you think that weight cutting in camp for some guys is too the point where they forget why they lose weight for fights. To my knowledge no mma fighter has ever been forced to wear boxing gloves in the cage yet when moving up weight class it seems lots of fighters are forgetting the benefits of boxing glove and weighted vest.

Haha! I've said it a thousand times, I could listen to this guy all day. Amazing to find out Chael likes taco bell, I thought only stoners ate that haha! I was there today funny enough I like the taco & crunch wrap supreme, but I will definitely be trying the seven layer with steak next time. Chael just gave taco bell a huge plug. On another note, Machida is certainly a huge threat. I'm a big fan of both of you guys, I'd been doing Judo for years & remember when Machida first came to the UFC. I was amazed, up to that point the sport was dominated by wrestlers, kickboxers & bjj guys. You hardly ever saw Karate guys excel in MMA, but there he was, winning fights with Karate. I was blown away & extremely curious, so I took up Shotokan just to have an idea of how it works. Man let me tell you, the timing is strange, the foot work is strange, the stance is strange but after four months I felt like I was starting to understand it. So I'm sparring at the tapout gym in DTLA & I decide to try some of this Shotokan I've been learning. I was giving dudes black eyes & putting them on their asses with one shot! This is important, in Shotokan style competitions one shot means victory. It's a bare knuckle style of fighting with heavy emphasis on evading until there is one crucial exchange where there is one Victor in one shot. Machida will circle around the cage, keep his hands low & immediately lunge forward with a straight punch. If you chase him he will come with a front kick. Shotokan is a linear style, keep your guard up, defense will be your best offense. Make this fight ugly, pressure all the way, to win you will need to out wrestle him. Decision will be a more likely road to victory, but ground & pound is certainly an option. Good luck Chael!

I totally agree that training consistently and staying near 'fight condition' all year long, will prevent a lot of 'wear and tear' from getting out of shape and back into shape repeatedly. Then, the training period for a fight will be focused primarily on fight strategy and technique as opposed to having to concentrate on cutting weight.
