Especially garbage from a guy who works at a network that receives millions in government subsidies allowing him to be paid enough to not have to worry about financial issues like the rest of us, and who has a vested interest in keeping the guy he's standing up for in his current job to continue to receive those subsidies. We have to always remember that canadian news media is not objective as they stand to lose government subsidies if trudeau loses an election. It's impossible to be objective when covering the people signing your cheques, and this is another example of the media protecting themselves instead of doing their job.

So many things wrong with what Sid said. The problem isn't that a government worker is paid a salary with tax money. That's their pay and they can do what they want. The problem is billing the tax payer for PERSONAL EXPENSES. Imagine you are a boss. You pay an employee close to half a million dollars as a salary. He asks for a vacation and you grant it. Then Accounting calls you a few days later and tells you this employee just billed the company over $250,000 for his PRIVATE VACATION. Also you accounting department tells you this same employee billed the company $89,000 in personal groceries (not business related, just his family of 5). That is highly wrong. There are government accounting documents that show a pattern of behaviour putting PERSONAL expenses on the tax payer bill while most Canadians can barely afford food.

Here's an idea, take the amount of his vacation and divide that by $40,000,000. that's the average cost per Canadian to pay for his protection while on holiday. I get about 1/2 a penny each on average. If you are in the lower wage bracket you probably paid nothing. Going on vacation once a year is a luxury and our vacations often don't involve leaving the country. He lives in a mansion, goes to $100k dinners and lives a luxurious lifestyle and on top of that he "needs" to go on vacation 10 times a year. Totally a "stressful" lifestyle. We pay for a holiday cottage for our PM's to use. The problem for me is that Trudeau seems to need exotic holidays and breaks at expensive locations. He should give the suffering taxpayers a break and try more modest vacations. Trudeau routinely spends hundreds of thousands, endless hours in the air, etc. We need to get back to the days when our leaders went on vacations in our own country, just as earlier PMs usually did.

I was a member of the CAF employed in 8Wing Trenton directly involved with flight logistics when the PM flew. To say “at no cost to the public” is a joke. He has the most security of any PM in the past. The plane he travels on has a very large air crew to accommodate not only him, his family, security and accommodation for these people. Yes, our PM needs his staff but DON’T insult Canadians by saying at no cost!

A simple law can easily be passed to force the current and future pms to fly commercial on all personal trips or reinburse the full costs of using govt jet but no party wants to do it. The presidents of finland and mexico fly commercial on all trips. So does the prime minister of singapore. Theres no reason why a pm of canada cant fly commercial on personal trips esp when every passenger goes thru the same security check at the airport

Who is going to pay? Then it is stated that the ethics office had precleared the vacation , problem here is the ethics office does not and never has "precleared" these type of activities for politicians. He is the Prime Minister he is suppose to set the standard and example of leadership by his actions and words . From what I have observed it is a very very low bar, so yes I want to hear about it.

As a Canadian, I want to continue hearing about Trudeau's trips. He lives the big life at our expense and he takes way more holidays than most Canadians do, even if they are retired. He has broken ethics' rules on a number of occasions, so we have no choice but to follow everything he does because he clearly cannot be trusted. And no, he hasn't earned the holidays. If anything, Canadians need a holiday from him.

Sadly the problem is since Canada's founding, the tax payers have always been paying for the vacations of the Prime Ministers. There were the pieces of the filing of family expenses for reimbursement by John A McDonald still housed in museum in Kingston. Nor is this a convention invented by Canada. Throughout the Western World, tax payers always pay for their leaders' vacations. From the UK to France, to the USA to Australia - you name it - there isn't a single Western democracy that doesn't have the policy whereby publicly funded vacation is a perk a country's top leaders are entitled to. If you emigrate to North Korea you might be able to avoid such nuisance - there aren't "tax payers" in North Korea, only slaves and serfs. If you stay in the Western World, however, that's just a frustration you have to put up with. I like it no more than you do. But things are what they are and nobody can do anything to change it.
