Addressing the inevitable comments: Based on Digital Foundry's video, the outlook for the Xbox Scorpio is looking better in terms of the hardware. Aspects of the console are interesting, to say the least. I'm not exactly convinced yet, since DF stated that they've only seen two games running on the Scorpio, but they did say the Forza demo was running at 4K native, 60 FPS, which is something I didn't expect. If it ends up running that well when the console launches, I will have been wrong on that point. Again, I'm not totally convinced. It's one game, and I want to see it for myself, but this in itself is promising. I imagine what I just wrote will surprise certain people, who seem to be of the opinion that I wouldn't concede any of my points in the event that I'm proven wrong. Projection strikes me as the most likely explanation. Regardless, I was quite thorough in this video in relation to my points, and the people looking for a "gotcha" might want to watch the video again, especially from 4:38 inwards. I expressly stated in this video that I'm willing to give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt and assume the Xbox Scorpio may be able to handle 4K native games, understanding that in such an event, the Scorpio will cost a LOT of money. To the point that it'll probably turn off most regular consumers, and a lot of PC gamers. We don't know how much the system will cost. However, if it's gonna be running games at 4K native in any respect, I think it would be overly optimistic to assume it'll cost less than $800, given that the GTX 1080 Ti, a 4K ready card, costs $800. That's simply what I think. I'm not saying it's a fact, because I don't know for sure, but I don't think it's a particularly irrational point of view. In any case, what I just said has yet to be disproven, because we don't know how much the system will cost. Unless you have insider information none of us are aware of. From the start, anybody who watched this video should have understood what point I was trying to make. Here it is, extremely simplified: "Either the Xbox Scorpio will be underpowered, or it'll cost a lot of money." For the time being, this point still stands. I deliberately covered all the bases, because I'm not clairvoyant. Thought I'd clear things up, before the inevitable "ha ha, you're wrong" comments. Comments that don't really hold much weight, given that I still haven't been proven wrong on the cost front.

Even if the Xbox Scorpio is more powerful than my PC and cheaper I'd still prefer my PC. The unlimited choices and freedom the PC provides to the consumer is unbeatable.

I won't be buying it because I'm done with consoles. While I still have my Xbone because I have old friends on it that I grew up with many eons ago, I sold my PS4 because I got sick of Sony's policy nonsense - especially involving castrating the mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4. I built a gaming rig in January and went back to PC gaming after 8 years of focusing on consoles. I'm done with companies like Sony and Microsoft dictating to me what I can do with the hardware I own! Plus, paying for online is a total joke. I loved Bloodborne and God of War, but I can live without them. I have plenty more games to play on my PC with 6TB total space and 5TB of that full! (time to buy another HDD soon...)

Honestly I don't think the Scorpio needs to be better and cheaper than a PC, it just needs to be powerful performance wise, without a stupid price tag. It's currently really easy to outbuild an Xbox 1, much cheaper. If they can make it a reasonable challenge to match it then that should be enough to keep it alive

I really don't think the Scorpio will be worth it at all. I don't really care about it having 4K, i care about the performance actually be above 30 fps, sometimes dropping to 15-25. If the Scorpio is $600-800, a gaming PC will likely beat it price wise and performance wise. Unless they really wow me with the specs and price, I won't touch this console with a 10 ft pole.

I think it will run games at 4K 30fps as this isn't super hard to do. A GTX 1060 can do it, and the Scorpio is said to be a bit more powerful than a 1060.

There is no way the Xbox Scorpio will be a 4k powerhouse. I have an Intel i7-4770k, 32gb ram, and a GTX 1080. I can get 95% of the time 4k at 60fps at High and sometimes Ultra. So lets do the math, $300 for the CPU (even though its old it still costs that) and the GTX 1080, $600. Hmm That is $900 for just two of the parts, so no way the game console can sell for even $600.

I own a ps4 pro and I am extremely impressed at what first party devs have been able to achieve with it.... Horizon zero dawn is an absolute technical masterpiece in 4k HDR on the pro.... and the Xbox scorpio is going to be quite a bit more powerful than the ps4 pro... So the games resolution, graphical settings and to a lesser extent, framerate (probably still going to be stuck at 30 for the vast majority) are really going to be down to the developers.... I am an enthusiast PC gamer with an extremely high end rig. I run a 6850k at 4.55Ghz, 32GB of ddr4 3000Mhz and a 1080Ti. I recently got rid of my 2x SLI gtx 1080s to switch to the single 1080Ti... I regularly split my gaming time between native 4k on my 4k HDR tv, and my X34 predator monitor (3440x1440 @100HZ G-sync) and I am telling you right now for a fact that when I play Horizon Zero Dawn in 4k which is not a true full 4k framebuffer, but a checkerboard rendered 4k framebuffer, that I have to literally get within a couple inches of my screen to be able to tell that it isnt native 4k. So, even if the scorpio doesnt use all of its power to do native 4k, and instead uses deferred rendering to get to 4k from something slightly lower like a 1440P or even 1800P render, and instead uses that power to turn up the graphical quality in games, I say power to them.. I think you are most definitely underestimating the potential of the Xbox scorpio by a huge margin... Especially if you only have a lower-mid range PC. The scorpio is going to shit all over a PC like that.

If you ask me, it would've been better for Microsoft to make the Scopio run games at native 1440p 60fps because even if it will run games at native 4K, there are going to be rendering and frame rate issues within the games. Also, we can pretty much say that it won't cost $500 because a 4K gaming PC can cost up to $1000 and if this console's hardware is suppose to output that type of resolution as well as 60fps, then it has to be atleast $700 or more. That's just my speculation. Not to mention the cost for a 4K monitor, which will cost up to $400 and because owning one in order to play in 4K is an absolute requirement.

I would settle for 1080P@60FPS so better ISP connections don't suffer from huge lag spikes. Dedicated Servers are a must to get the best results possible given current ISP technologies and its limitations.

4K won't be the dominant resolution for a few years to come. Not at least until more graphics cards are capable of it, and the successors to the PS4 and X1 arrive. The Scorpio won't fill that gap at the minute. Will be interesting to hear the specs on Thursday.

Just switched to PC from the PS4, I have a Core i5 7600, 16GB RAM, Zotac GTX 1060 6GB, 250GB SSD, 1TB HHD and I has a MSI motherboard...It's been 3 weeks since I last touched my PS4. I did the math on the amount of subscriptions that I had to pay on both Xbox 360 and Ps4...Over 200 Dollars. I enjoy PC because of the flexibility and it's Pricey but in the long run it'll be worth it in the LONG run.

I don't think it'll be that there will be a few native 4K games, it's more that details and effects will be diminished at native 4K. The 1080p mode would likely offer a better experience at higher frame rate as well as all the bells and whistles. I think it'll take another 2 years before average priced PCs can realistically run at 4K without losing out on details and framerates. Consoles will likely be behind that curve.

we all know that publishers want to sell screenshots, not resolutions. I think they'll opt for better textures and effects than 4K resolution, at least on the 3rd party side.

What Ive noticed is the PS4 "pro/neo" and Xbox one 3rd scopio were rumored to use ryZEN's APU's but that never happened so if they are still using the outdated slow overclocked custom AMD FM2 APU's good luck getting REAL 4k native on these new systems unless they do some extra fucking around to some how get it working but at a cost of real graphic options , eg AA/AF

Good vid. I'll be honest, I'm not too bothered about consoles having abandoned them a few years ago - I don't think I need to explain why, I'd be beating a dead horse. But if the Scorpio is actually as good as they claim, I don't think it'd be a bad thing. People have been complaining that consoles have been holding PC gaming back (somewhat), so this could be a start. Of course there are implications such as the price of said powerful console; console gamers have always claimed how much cheaper it is to play on console and this could be catastrophic in that sense. Not only that, but it could also fuck over vanilla xbone owners. I guess we have to wait and see.

R9-390X (5.9 TFLOPS, 44 CU, 64 ROPS) can already play multiple game PC games at 4K/30 fps with high/very high/ultra level graphics settings. Scorpio's 40 CU 6 TFLOPS GPU is a refine and upgraded R9-390X with less bottlenecks.

Does anybody else feel like the current gen of consoles is pretty much grooming it's own consumer base to be PC enthusiasts? Focusing this much on hardware upgrades and specs is a losing battle for consoles which will only frustrate more and more of it's gamers. Price used to be the biggest (although inaccurate) gripe that console gamers had against switching to PC. But when you have to drop 400 bucks every 3-4 years to stay current it kind of puts modular cpu and gpu upgrades in a new and more attainable light. Plus you will be years ahead of the spec goal that Sony and Microsoft are trying to achieve. I built my first computer last year with a 500 dollar budget and already my specs look better than the Scorpio's. If they put this much effort into their exclusives library and maintaining the servers that they force their consumer base to pay for then they would have a leg to stand on. Putting this kind of force behind already outdated hardware is just a waste of time and I feel like more and more people will realize this sooner rather than later.

The scorpio is using a modified RX 480 card aswell as the same processor and system ram type as used in the Xbone and Xbox 360. Ultimately this thing will at best get 1080p 60fps for once. Plus, if scorpio were to run 4k, 1. It'd need a R7 1700, or something like that, and an upcoming Vega Rage card to even get 4k 60fps. Plus, who the hell buys a console, to buy a 4k TV/monitor that costs probably as much as my own comupter, and resulting in the entire system of the console and tv/monitor, costing as much as a fairly high end 1500 - 2000 or so dollar computer.

The points Fringy makes in this video hold even more water when I look to my right and see ton of "recommended" videos from (possible) xbox fanboys gleefully hyping the Scorpio with video titles in ALL CAPS while claiming the Ps4 pro is dead. Microsoft has confirmed that their first party titles will be available on PC as well. That doesn't include any other company. If EA or Activision or Focus want to make an XB1 exclusive (like how Tecmo made Ni Oh for PS4) MS will not force them to make a PC version for the "play anywhere" service. scorpio will for sure run games at 4k 30 with a something of a equivelent to pc s high settings. 4k gaming on pc is greatly hampered with the small monitor screen. If u have a 65 inch 4k hdr display u would benefit alot more with native 4k with the scorpio.

I have an Xbox one only for destiny and now that I've learned it's coming out on pc, it's cheaper for me to upgrade my friends old desktop he is giving me with an rx 480 4gb. And yes, I know that most prebuilt won't handle that but it has a corsair 430 w so yeah, it should be fine

It'll be VR ready and will probably represent how Microsoft wants to have a console that is catered to a more casual market in comparison to PC gaming.

I think the Scorpio will manage 4k 30fps on certain games, but most definitely not all of them. 4k 60fps will MAYBE work on indie games and for the AAA games only if the games are heavily downgraded in the graphical department.

I think its their next gen system being called a refresh. The damn thing is just to powerful when compared to the base xbone. The pro is only a slight upgrade over the OG PS4. But the Scorpio is basically 5x the power of the xbone. Personally i consider this to much of a jump to be called a refresh. But time will tell i guess.
