You really need to keep these trucks for at least 6 months, I really want to see you keep them for a year so we can see how the interior holds up, if anything breaks, everyone gets some seat time to truly mull over their impressions. I understand you can't as there are other trucks you want to do long term tests with, but the manufacturers really should be giving you these for a month to do all that you've really done with it, film hard with it and then stretch it out the content over two or three months for us. And then you can buy only the vehicles you will actually keep, modify, and such. I'm sure the only 2 reasons you don't is because you want to rely on yourself getting the vehicle instead of the manufacturer making one available to you for that time in the press fleet, and 2, if it gets damaged, scraped and such, you can do it and loose a little bit of money on it rather than what happened with Subaru on a press vehicle, and I do appreciate it, but the Tundra and the this I've wanted to see more of from you.

These videos need to include at least one from the group Andre/Nathan/Tommy. Also, it’s such a shame to have this truck in your fleet only to get rid of it so soon. I much prefer your old format where you hung onto trucks for a while and provided longer term reviews and updates. And above all else, please do not replace this with an electric truck! In fact, if you have to get rid of something, let the Lightning go. You’ve already demonstrated that it’s not ready for real truck usage and towing. Move on.

They sold this to us as a long term test truck, even coated it to see how the coating would last… then 2 months later it’s out the door? If it’s not a blue oval or a TRX then tfl doesn’t want it

Keeping these trucks for 2-3 months is rather pointless. TFL got my subscription because of in depth long term reviews, you took that Trailboss everywhere and compared it in a test vs all of the competition. There hasn't been a single good comparison of the ZR2 vs anything the Tundra video was a joke, all the easy obstacles. This entire video was a waste of time.

Agreed, some of the videos have been lacking lately and this “sell/trade up as soon as a different sub-model gets released” isn’t good for channel content long term. I agree the tundra needed to go for the ZR2 because the tundra is/was basically just an ecoboost f150 wannabe. Seeing this go already just because the Bison is getting released doesn’t make much sense. A constantly revolving door will degrade some of what you have built here. Is “Being the first!!” really more important than giving a true long term test? Not for me to decide for you, but I certainly don’t think so.

Power deficiency? Not everybody wants a 1000 hp... some value economy and probably better insurance rates, I think ZR2 would be my choice out of the Raptor and TRX. It retains more pickup capability than the others that are a 1 horse trick... I want more than that for SSSS.
@MrChadx1
@MrChadx1 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. That is why myself, and many others by the sounds of it, are hoping the ZR2 will be offered with the Duramax 3.0 inline 6 diesel. That has the torquey powerband I like for trail driving and towing or just cruising down the highway with fewer shifts. Plus, with the better mileage of the diesel, one can get a lot more range/miles per tank with the tiny GM fuel tank, that the 6.2liter gas engine which is nice when on remote roads and trails.

I’m not bored at all on this truck, I LOVE IT. I did get bored on the TRX. What happened to holding on the trucks long term. I was so excited for the Toyota to be gone and this proper truck in the fleet. I was looking forward for a year’s worth of videos on the ZR2. I wanted to see the truck in the snow, a longer economy trip with and without towing a trailer, installing and testing the trailer cameras, go all out on accessories like their RAM REBEL a few years ago, and proving that the truck needs bigger tires. And maybe another comparison with the Colorado ZR2 and a hardcore Colorado trail. I guarantee the next new truck won’t be as awesome as the Silverado ZR2. Bye Silverado 😢👋

For those curious about tire sizes and this trucks reliability: I have had the ZR2 for three months now. I immediately upgraded my tires to the Nitto Ridge-Grappler 295/70 R18. Basically 34” tire. 35” will not fit in the front. They will rub. You can lift or change wheel offset as solve the rubbing problem, but I didn’t care about having a 35” tire. What I cared about was load rating and I wanted a 10 ply tire. The Goodyears it came with were a 6 ply tire of memory serves. I have had zero rubbing and the truck looks and performs great. This is my first time running this tire. All of my previous vehicles had BFG KO2. So what broke? Within the first 2 weeks the front locker. I hadn’t even used the 4 wheel drive system yet and I started getting “service axle locker” warnings at odd times driving down the freeway. It took a bit for them to figure what was wrong, but apparently it was a loose wire and they replaced the actuator. I have two paint issues. The red paint is chipping off the red recovery tow hooks. Never used them. No reason for it to flake off. And I have one spot on a plastic piece where the white paint is coming off. It is minor, but I will probably make them repaint this part before my warranty ends. I’m monitoring now to see how much worse it will get. Finally my lane departure is not working. Which doesn’t bother me. However because it isn’t working the adaptive cruise control won’t work. My plan is to get that fixed when I take it in for its first oil change and tire rotation at 5000 miles. I’m at 3500 miles right now. Many of you will probably use this post as an excuse to pile on GM and call these trucks p.o.s. but for the haters let me say this: To me GM knocked it out of the park with this truck. I had it at the ranch this past weekend and put it through its paces with heavy feed loads in the valleys and using all the 4 wheel drive functions on difficult terrain in the hilly sections. I actually had a pretty serious storm come through and things got muddy and slippery while on the hills with steep grades. No problem, front and rear lockers and 4 low kept me safe on steep grades. 4 high and rear locker got me through muddy sections of the flat land. In short the truck did it’s job. Annoying mechanical issues that are minor are not a big deal I think. Paint possibly failing on a plastic is something I know GM will make right. Where I draw the line is with major engine failure and I think the 6.5 is a proven engine. Time will tell. Last comment: every time I get in this truck I think how much I love it. It will be interesting to see how I feel a year or two down the road. Those that are upset the TFL made a business decision to sell this truck to buy a new vehicle for us to get excited about should look to the fan forums from real owners who give honest real world feedback. Keep up the good work TFL. I’m excited to see what you replace the ZR2 with. Cheers! -Ash

@Ash713 Curious if "regular" cruise control will work even when the Lane Departure/Adaptive Cruise control isn't? Have heard some vehicles with adaptive cruise control have no cruise control available when the adaptive stops working (even if only because the sensor is covered with ice or mud). Would like first hand confirmation that, even when the adaptive cruise control stops working (for whatever reason), one will still have regular cruise control, rather than having no cruise control and needing to drive with foot on accelerator pedal for hundreds of miles when on a road trip, etc. Thanks.

The trail he went on, you don’t need a zr2 to go to places like this. That trail you can do with any 4x4 truck or suv. Before I built up my 4runner I took the stock truck up trails just like this all throughout Colorado with no problems at all. It’s an sr5 as well with no lockers. Just Atrac did everything I needed to and didn’t even need Atrac most of the time and especially a trail like this you don’t need front and rear lockers and crazy suspension and huge lifts. There are harder trails but you can still get to remote beautiful places like in this video without a crazy expensive rig.

Trading it already? LOL! I really wish they'd have this lift on the new 6.5ft Reg Cab body. That would give you similar wheelbase as Colorado. For 99.9% of all off roading, this is 99.9% as good as the Raptor.

Everyone is always comparing the ZR2 silverado to the TRX & RAPTOR but honestly the ZR2 isn't in the same ballgame and in this case it isn't a bad thing I'm glad they didn't try to do that. The zr2 is a actual off road capable. The only full size factory truck wogh electronic diff locks trx and raptor is damn nice truck but zr2 has far more traction in the off road scene but I do wish there was an option from the factory to put the supercharger from a zl1 on it just to say they did.

Agreed. So many of the specialized trims are only available in crew cabs and short beds, which many of us don't want. I understand that manufacturers sell more crew cabs, but for my use, I need the standard 6.5+' bed. No ZR2 with double cab and standard bed, unfortunately. And they even discontinued (hopefully temporarily) the doublecab/standard bed Trail Boss for 2022 model year. You can't get a doublecab/standard bed High Country trim either.

Excellent review Roman. Opened my eyes to how good this truck is. Capable off road (lockers can be very useful. Approach, departure, ground clearance, visibility all very important - so agree, get rid of scoop, improve departure). I don't subscribe to the too quiet club so nice to see GM made it quiet. I agree with you, 700hp is unnecessary, 6.2 GM is not going to be short on power. I'd rather have improved gas mileage. If it runs around 20+ on the hwy then that's pretty good. Would be good to have a playlist for each one of your long term vehicles. I'm struggling to find your other videos on this truck.

I would want the AEV aftermarkets parts enhanced Chevy ZR2 Bison Edition which I understand is coming out this fall to early winter. If you are a Chevy Colorado Bison Edition 4x4 truck fan, then the upcoming Silverado ZR2 Bison Edition will probably blow your mind to high heaven! If I was given this truck, I could definitely make it work for me and turn it into a TRUE long-range overlander/boondocker vehicle. I do notice the full-size and medium-size truck segments are starting to get VERY competitive on 4x4 off-road side of the things so for those of you who want one, I highly suggest you look at financing options with lower monthly payments at the expense of a longer financing term (i.e. 72 and 84 months) and use the monthly savings for more gas and groceries for your weekend off-road trips. Pick the truck that who can add the most accessories such as font and back heavy duty bumpers with winches, bush bars, fog lights and best roof-top camper to and buy the one that has the longest driving range when carrying two to four 20 Gallon Jerry Cans of fuel. THOSE should be your primary buying concerns! In terms of BANG for the buck, if you can get a 2020/2021/2022 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition from ANY dealer in the USA or Canada, then THAT ONE is right now the best deal on the market for medium-size OR full-size of any of the current trucks. You get a LOT of 4x4 off-roader truck for the money and you can add those extras yourself with a quick run to the JEGS website. The next in line is a NEW 2022/2023 Nissan Frontier Pro4x which is still expensive BUT you will definitely get better financing options than the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. If you can handle a USED truck of over 5 years old, I would say the best bang-for-the-buck in off-road and carrying ability is now the Nissan Titan XD which has more back bed capacity than the Ford F150. If you are a twenty-something who can't spend more than $10,000 I think the 2010 or earlier GMC Jimmy or Chevy Blazer are your best bets with some lifts and 33 inch tires put on. They can go ANYWHERE fully 4x4 equipped at less than $10,000! Another good one is a 1995 to 2010 era Jeep Grand Cherokee in Limited trim editions which can be lifted and modded for off-road so easily for a total cost you spend to buy and fit-out for less than $30,000 USD depending on the odometer miles. @@Tallnerdyguy I agree however for $70k you can get a 392 v8 and that’s what sets one model far enough apart from the general wrangler to explain the price but again it’s just my opinion

You get lockers, it is capable of putting 35s on, GM just won't do it from the factory, and it is a high optioned model from the base ZR2. $70k is competitive, and not like any dealer will let you have a Raptor or TRX for MSRP, they all mark it up over $80k, and I'm sure the specialness x factor will keep those higher priced when it comes to resale value. But this will go anywhere those can go, with better fuel economy, a nearly as nice engine note as the TRX, and because it doesn't overstress it's components from gobbs of power, it should be more reliable too.

@@mattlimberg5763 I understand and agree with most of what you have said I think it’s actually a great truck I just think that at this price point it should be closer to a trx or a raptor not a trd tundra or fx4 titan only because of the price not the quality but thank you for letting me se it from a different pov

No reason for fake hood scoops. Shame on Chevy! Really like the new interior and dash layout.
@MrChadx1
@MrChadx1 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. For an offroad-focused pickup, one needs as much visibility of the trail as possible. The hoods on today's pickups impede that enough and these cosmetic hood bulges block visibility even more. Cameras don't replace being able to see the trail because the camera view flattens out the terrain. I don't mind, and kind of like, the look of hood bulges and hood scoops, but in this case, they take away for the intended use of the truck. By the way, these are hood bulges, not hood scoops. Bulges on hoods in the old days were used to allow clearance for performance carburetors and/or high rise intake manifolds and didn't have or need any openings. Hood scoops have scoops on them (real or not) and real ones pulled cooler air from outside the hot engine compartment. So there are functional hood bulges and functional hood scoops and there are fake hood bulges and fake hood scoops. The ZR2 has fake hood bulge. While it does add a bulge to the hood, the underlying sheet metal is standard and there is nothing in the engine compartment that sticks up requiring the underside of the hood to be pushed up to allow more clearance than stock height.

The Rocky Mountains in Canada IMO, are even more amazing! Take British Columbia for example, one of the best places to go off road in North America, period!!!

That price is why it will be yet another mall crawler. Most people aren't going to drop 70 grand on a truck then take it off road where all you're going to do is put dents dings and scratches in it at best break parts at worst. Add inflation getting worse and the slowing of the economy and this truck along with all the other expensive trucks aren't very appealing and will only become less so. I think Tommy did it right buying a base jeep, still a bit over priced for what you get but not going to break your bank account nor will you cry as much when it starts showing damage from off roading.

I think they're not going to put a 6.4 Hemi in the rebel because they have the 6.2 supercharged in the TRX. People are not going to shell out the bucks for the TRX if they can get a 6.4 in a rebel
