Kyle, Jordan, and Tijmen meet up at a Renault dealership outside of Stuttgart to check out a brand new electric Renault Megane E-Tech. This vehicle looks great and is built on the CMF-EV architecture which also underpins the upcoming Nissan Ariya. The only thing left to do is to go on a full tour and to drive it.

9:32 that's quite simple. In Europe we are travelling on much shorter distances. so a break after 300km means half or 2/3 trip break. time for lunch, dinner, longer break because we don't plan next one as there is probably 80% chance we will arrive to our destination before that. So we don't have to charge three times just to visit grandpa on the weekend. (I am not counting summer holidays)

@@michalklucz6907 I agree, the same for us in France, 80% of our comutes are less than 100km, once every two monthes we do a trip of more than our rated autonomy, and the 30min break to charge is welcomed to have lunch. If the trip is bigger, we take TGV, faster, cheaper, safer...

@Scrap-press
@Scrap-press 2 жыл бұрын
I hope Renault works on the filters so you can filter 50 100 and 150+ kw stations instead of only 50+kw. Also the charging curve needs a couple of tweaks and/or finetuning so you still get good results if you start fast charging above 10%. Other than that it's a great City CUV.

@@YannR34 You can definitely go on road trips with the Megane, but I wouldn't rate it very well though. The 80-10% range is roughly 220km which is ok, but not something I'd recommend to use for regular road trips especially in conjunction with 30min recharging breaks. Btw: Are you from France? If yes, what does the general public think of EVs there? I watch "Turbo" from time to time and all moderators aren't huge fans.

@@Scrap-press yes I'm from France and I don't need to rush my trip anymore, the way is a part of this enjoyment, just like when I travel by plane I start to enjoy the whole thing from the moment I close my door. From my point of view I am very enthusiastic about about electric cars. Charging stations are flourishing everywhere. In my neighborhood I hear (lol) a lot of electric cars passing by. I know several people in my surrounding who have or ordered an electric car. Just the Megane will have two of them as owner, and I am planning to buy one too. The system embedded in the car is very important for me and it's determinant. I'm found of technology and electricity is a future for anything and everything. The more advanced we will get, the more opportunities we will have to step up on next leve tech. Electricity is the way. About Turbo I was a fan of the show in the past, but it was in the past, and I always have been turned to the futur.

It's only 35 mn to go from 10 to 80% and you don't even have to use a very hight speed charger 150 KW is enough and more everywhere and much cheaper, a least 0.10 € less per kW than a 300kW (or if the charger is overloaded it will deliver what you need when a car requiring hight level will be slower). And in case of a longer pause (like you do when you visit around) you don't even need a fast charger with the 22kW AC which are everywhere and very cheap, and you can spend the saving while you tourism.

It's a Citroën, with all that that implies. It and the Megane are prime candidates as replacements for the Citroën C4 Picassos that my wife and I have had (in France) for about 14 years. (Interestingly, no Citroën product has interested me in the meantime.) We have just one stateside car: a Buick Encore that has been great for about a decade. It seems to me that the US EV market is headed in the wrong direction, with lots of expensive products, but not much that might replace our Encore: comfortable and quiet, perfect empty-nester car.

Most of people need that this kind of cars, can be sold by 20-25k € as soon as possible. If not, many of the working class in Europe will not be able to do the EV transition and will be condened to drive our old fossile fueled cars forever. I have many of my hopes in next ID.1 and Renault 5.

Watching the video again and I have just driven the same model from my home in Tarn et Garonne to Cassis, 6.5 hrs. with 2 charging stops as recommended by chargemap. 1 of 17mins and the 2nd at 24mins. So I don't get the extensive charging times quoted.

You need to get yourself a Twizy :) (and figure out how to register it at the DMV) I miss mine sometimes, though, it’s 36°C outside, I appreciate having upgraded to 64kWh with an AC instead of 6kWh without any comfort :)

Looking Good. Even better than VW ID4. What I feel it is a common problem . If you are short is OK but for tall people really we do need an ergonomic design of doors. They do need a leap at the top of door when you get on the car avoid hit your head . This remark is important for all new cars and all new brands. Because all brands are designed in the same way. Thanks

Great review. You moved the seat back? This does not give a full insights into the back space. I think that the 22kW AC charging is very good. This means that if you have a public 22kW charger for yourself and not sharing with another car then you have many more chargers 🔌 with half the charging time.

The European EV market seems more exciting than the North American market. Also French cars are known for their funky stalks, I think Peugots also use a stock to control the stereo.

I don't like that there are 3 stalks on the right side of the steering wheel. Seems a bit cramped. Why not move the gear selector somewhere else? It's not something you use as much as lights or cruise control

Another plus compared to the ID.3 is that it can tow up to 900kg, which is good for trailer tents and some folding campers. It ticks many boxes on my list, except it's expensive and Renaults usually depreciate fast. I want to like it. Somebody please reassure me that this is a good buy.

@@jamescarla26 We tried one (and other EVs) and thought about it, and then drove a Tesla Model 3. We bought a Dual Motor Model 3 with a tow hitch. There's rationale reasons such as charging infrastructure, efficiency and range, but also...0-60 in 4.2 seconds.

iirc this car uses the same platform as the Nissan Ariya, and that car apparently has a really efficient drivetrain, so I'm holding out hope that the Megane is even better, as it'll likely be my next car in a few years.

The Megane is much lighter and Aerodynamic, in other tests it gets excellent range with both packs, the Ariya does pretty damn well for how big it is from what I have seen from Testing done so far.
