Not happy with mine so far. The ally z1e destroys it in every game hands down with better graphics and fps. There’s several kinks to work out but I’m just not sure the drivers can mature enough to match the ally let alone beat it. If they lower the price to below the ally it’s a win. Otherwise a steam deck or ally is a way better value speaking honestly.

Is it a fan boy comment? I feel they express legit concerns. I have been looking forward to this handheld as I prefer Intel over AMD, but right now I really think the Rog Ally is in a really solid place. Waiting to see if updates improve the main or it becomes cheaper. Or I might wait for Ally-2. I do think the MSI will improve with updates. Just gonna give it time

Strange how you would say it beats the Rog Ally a little bit so far when all reviews show it performing worse and otherwise is like a carbon copy design wise and it lacks true variable refresh rate, other than audio sounding a bit better, what else does it do better than the ally?

If I can get one, I will also want an update all button too. The speaker and display are my favorite part. Excited to see more ways to extend Claw using ways, I am finding this kind of reviews. I believe Intel and MSI will update their performance in the future, happy to see a new handheld in this market for us to choose from.

Is this the MSI 5 or Ultra 7? Cuz you cant compare it with the extreme version of the ROG ALLY. Let me remind you that the basic version of the ROG ALLY is also pretty abysmal.

It's always good to have different platform options for users. I also thinks the ergonomic design is better than ROG Ally.

The problem with these handhelds aside from the Steam Deck is the Windows OS. I bought a Legion Go recently and was almost immediately turned off by the Windows 11 setup you need to go through on all of them and having to go in and uninstall the useless bloatware. Sure the Legion Go itself can function secondly as a tablet but Im not going to want a Linkedin app on my gaming handheld device from the get go lol. They really need to have a custom build of windows optimized for gaming that comes with these devices that comes preloaded with some game launchers like Steam and GOG and maybe some other apps to help boost performance because I REALLY don't want to look at tutorials after receiving my gaming handheld on what features I need to disable/what apps need to be installed

Stop spreading misinformation please.. i have an ally.. yes there is the initial setup like on any pc but after the one time its a seamless experience everytime! As soon as you turn it on you press a button that opens armory crate that has all your launchers and games in a very simliar fashion to the steam deck!!

The windows set up is garbage and needs to be more streamlined with less bloatware and better optimization for better user experience. Thats not "spreading misinformation"

@@HeathenMetalhead221 bloatware is a made up concept by the valve and lenovo reviewers to skew the viewers to lean in their favor... the valve fanboys love to leave out the fact that cause of the fact it runs on linux and cant run certain games or just simply because of the fact the deck is relatively underpowered compared to the ally and go

The microsoft apps do not ruin the experience at all and if it's such an issue it takes literally 60 seconds one time to delete certain Microsoft apps

You are being a little dramatic with the over bloated software. It literally asks you on windows setup if you want some of those services or not. Just like any windows you can do a one time uninstall if you wish. Steam deck is great so is the Rog. Windows does not limit the device. Gives you freedom to pretty much do what ever you want with it.

I wonder if anyone is going to overclock the msi claw with afterburner. I always use msi afterburner with every gaming windows device even with non msi devices. None of the handheld gaming devices are able to run crysis remastered with decent fps especially since I always play with can it run crysis mode intentionally in every graphics settings with ray tracing always on, ray tracing experimental boost enabled, v sync always off, motion blur always off and unlimited fps always enabled for games that support unlimited fps.

Im so happy I got an Ally 6 weeks ago to replace my under-powered beautiful white shell swapped Deck. At 30w the Z1 extreme delivers. It runs every new AAA game I threw at it with some Medium setting mixed in at 900p. Battery is shit though. But I just wanna play on my couch anyway.

Yeah I had the deck too but felt it was very underpowered it struggled to run games that we can run on high settings upscaled on the ally... I also hated how certain games ndidnt work on the deck cause of linux cause anticheat blocks linux

Try running 1080p with FSR i havent had to lower my resolution to 900p on any game so far so get steady or over 60fps.

Elden ring runs great on the legion go. 800p with integar scaling, medium graphics preset, and 30 watt tdp gives me 50-60 fps and looks fantastic.

Its worse in every way to the ally. The ryzen chip beats the intel chip at every wattage by a lot. Buttons are also all worse except the sticks on the claw. So worse performance, worse battery because you need to play at a much higher wattage to match the ally, heavier, and worse buttons.

SD slot on the top under the vents. Did they not learn from the Ally, or did they straight up steal their blue prints?? The power efficiency in the Claw makes the Ally and LeGo look like competent handhelds with excellent power efficiency smdh Batteries are what determine hardware. When you neglect the battery in favor of high end hardware and fancier specs, you're just left with a useless portable device and a subpar Mini PC. This is basically erry PC handheld ever, outside of SD OLED The MSi Claw is an even bigger joke than the Legion Go lol

@@ONealskey7 A $700 battery powered device (handheld designed for portability) that can't match a $700 Mini PC, yet boasts insanely high specs that not even a Mini PC can handle I mean seriously, what game are you playing at NEARLY 4k resolution AND 144fps outside of super basic/old games? The 4090 struggles at 4k120 in some games And the battery and power efficiency is so bad, they put super high resolution and RGB in it anyways. Thinking higher specs and higher end hardware makes it better as if it's a laptop or desktop. As if it's a good idea in an era where battery tech isn't at all impressive The LeGo is literally the epitome of GREED. Trying to boast very high end specs that it cannot handle, with hardware that cannot handle its specs, while trying power it all with a battery that cannot keep up. It's a device that bites off wayyyy more than it can chew You're left with an over spec'd, subpar Mini PC with a battery shoved up its arse. It's a laughing stock. A handheld that sucks at being a handheld. A battery will always be the bottleneck of erry handheld, and they neglected it lmao

Intel cannot provide They also straight up copied the ROG Ally, which is alrdy a poorly designed handheld. I love watching 'midtel' be so pathetic compared to AMD No matter what era it is, handhelds will never be on par with even a laptop. The battery is forever a bottleneck Handheld hardware must be designed around the battery. You cannot neglect the battery, lest you end up with a useless handheld that can't provide a competent portable experience. And that has been the case with erry PC handheld ever ubtil the SD OLED

@@cqllel5186 I feel like you have a point, the battery life is important, that said I own the Rog Ally and I have had zero issues with it. I know it doesn't have battery life as long as the steam deck, but to say the Ally is poorly designed is a bad take. I bought an extra battery pack just in case, (even a steam deck owner should have one) but I use it on flights and hotel rooms. Thing is awesome. I don't own the legion but the reviews I see say it's a good device just big. I love the idea of a bigger screen. I feel portable gaming is in a great spot and we are set for pushing the technology further.

If it was $100 cheaper it would be an amazing mid tier handheld. But for not that much better you can get a way better handheld? That is not opinion it can be proven mathematically. If they came out at $499 that would be great for so many people looking to get into Pc or handhelds. At that price they are better off saving for another week or two.

Given the overall largely seamless experience of the original SteamDeck and SteamDeck OLED, I’ll stick with that and wait for the upgrade. Microsoft history suggests they are unlikely to ever make a suitably tailored OS for handhelds so it’s just not worth buying now in the hope that in the near future they will.

I dont understand when people use the seamless experience argument.. I turn on my ally and press the icon of the game on the home screen I want to play.. how much more seamless can this be? I find windows runs great on the ally it's just the fact the screen is so small you have to be precise if you use the touch screen... the sticks got recalibrated in an update months ago so the dead zones are fantastic and smooth!

Ally is pretty seamless, and windows is very easy. Plus if the game isn't steam deck verified aren't some games needing you to jump through hoops to get working? On the Ally or other windows based handheld they just kinda work if it works on windows

This intel chip is meant for laptop with a higher power draw. It performs quite well at 80w however its not suitable for handheld. Intel must have sold it very cheap to MSI and OneX to make them include this chip.

I can't understand how these companies are not putting trackpads on their handhelds. I can kind of see how asus didnt think to put it, then lenovo did, and somehow msi missed this. I would have ditched my deck for an ally if it had trackpads. Ill just wait for the steam deck successor.

I actually like the quick settings menu and the Msi software better on the claw than the ROG Ally haha and I like the form factor of the claw a little more too.

You say this is better than the ROG Ally in most respects, but only mention that it is more comfortable than the Ally in your video. All of your game fps comparisons are vs the Steam Deck. How else is it better than the ROG Ally?

The insistence of OEMs to put Windows on handhelds is really kind of dumb, IMHO. I'm sure they have "reasons" why they're pushing them out with Windows, but they aren't really doing themselves or customers any favors. Why not use a handheld- and gaming-focused Linux redistribution? The performance and efficiency gains alone would make most of them worthy competitors or alternatives to the Steam Deck. My Deck has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it with no problems, something I'm pretty sure I would not be able to say if it were running some form of Windows.

For the wattage output... That Intel chip was a mistake. I think turning off boost will help fps there. It's only barely 40 hitting near 30-40+ watts... Wtf. Doesn't seem dialed in. Also community would need time because 1080p is waste on these. 720-900p max.
