This looks like one of those "great in concept" designs that just failed in the execution. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a v2 in the future with some lessons learned redesigns, especially if they can work out an easier, more intuitive conversion process.

I'm glad you were able to take a look at it, and give your honest feedback. Great case on paper, but in practicality, not the move. I think at this point the spectre build is high on the list, or see what the case manufacturers bring to the table at CES. If you're still planning on branching out into CNC/3D printing, maybe a custom case of your own would be worth considering, and a journey/ process we'd all love to see.

Having seen this on Gamers Nexus already, I completely understand the title even before having seen the video... I'm not sure what people recommended this case and why. Sure, the glass panels are cool, but... bleh. This definitely was a test for what'd happen in the O11D Evo, which was significantly better conceptualized.

Yep got the XL two weeks ago as an upgrade over Fractal Design R6 a it is great. Basically the only thing I would "improve" is the depth. In my opinion it could use extra 10cm or so depth because when you fill the side mount with fans you dont really have much space left for stuff like Fan Hub or more organized cable management because the tray for storage/PSU takes a lot of space too. Or you could widen the case a bit so you could mount the fan hub on the the side of the storage trays, either would probably work well although personally I would prefer a bit deeper case.

If Lian-Li makes a V2, they should make the length and height the same, so you don't have to flip everything around. That way you just take the sides and top, and install them in the orientation you want. It would make the chassis bigger, but it doesn't really lose anything, and will make it a lot easier to set up the cable management and keep it consistent, rather than having it functional one way, and poor in the other. Either way, the footprint of the base configuration remains the same. I'd also reduce the amount the side panels come out...seems a bit excessive.

5:17 Na, that can't be the reason. There's tons of room there without even coming close to the retention screw holes, and it's not like the drives are at risk of contacting anything on the mobo since they're already attached to a separate plate. Hell, Performance mode has almost just as bad an issue, except you could probably cut off one or two of the "support" struts between the octagonal holes and not lose any structure but gain proper retention access. This product was designed in someone's dreams, because they had to have been asleep.
@emorphien

It's just poor design, period. Worst case they could have put the drive holders on another removable panel that installs over the back of the mobo tray. Of course, then it doesn't really work when converted to the other mode. This case is a solution in search of a problem, and ultimately it just creates new problems.

I know this will probably be a no go for the personal rig, but I would love to see a Thermaltake Core W200 Super Tower Case with a 6950x build one side and a 12900k on the other, but a single water loop? Would work great as a test rig so you don't have to keep 2 benches around, not to mention just a ridiculous amount of Rad options

I am using a be Quiet Dark Base pro 900 rev.1, which is also modular (you can change it's orientation so that the glass panel is either on the left or right, depending on where your case will be sitting. The rev.2 of that case is even better... nothing crazy, yet it is so nice, functional and the build quality is great. Also, you have so much space to work with, it makes things very easy. Also, you get 3 amazing stock fans with it, unlike Lian Li, who should at least take a note from other brands, and at least give you some stock fans to work with. If you are paying the premium, it only feels right to get the premium.

Hi Jay, from that vid in which you were seeking what types of subjects to focus on, how about showing vids on building budget pcs with USED components and what to look out for each each component and how best to deal with such issues. I know its limited in scope but it might help those out there what to look out for on used components when shopping at physical stores or online. Your expertise will be invaluable to new comers on pc builds.

Aerocool Flo has similar concept (air intake blowing on the GPU and exiting from CPU side) but the Mobo is actually turned so the ports are on the top of the case. I use it and like it but had to 3d print custom adapter to install additional fans inside the case between GPU and CPU radiator so GPU backplate would be adequately cooled, and also I had to downgrade CPU cooler to one with smaller radiator dimensions for it to fit.

I was looking at this case when I realize that in dynamic rotated mode, there is not really way to do exhaust because there are no fans mounts where the IO is. The performance and the dynamic modes are a way to go, but in performance mode there isn't really way to route your cables. I like the build of the V3000 plus more.

After the 011 Dynamic Evo, this one is a bit of a head scratcher. Just because you can make something, it doesn't always mean that you should! I would like to see a full build with the aforementioned 011 Dynamic Evo though, particularly with the vertical side mounted GPU.

take a motherboard bracket and use it as a test base, or make a custom computer case around it and it will be instantly unique. Since the front connectors are removable, it would be an ideal base to start building your custom enclosure. You can get up and do whatever you want.

I think you should use the Lian Li O11 dynamic XL with one of the custom acrylic distribution/res/pump plate thing. It's acrylic and I bet you could find someone to nicely engrave your logo onto it. That, or you could make your custom build case a whole series and fab something from scratch. I'd LOVE to see you grab something off an old classic car and turn it into a computer case with a liquid loop. Maybe use a grill and some bumpers to fab the outside of a case?
