I FACETED a Spiral Cut SPHERE Out of Rainbow Clear Quartz! Faceting Fun Times with Quartz and Opal!

In this one we have some fun on the faceting machine! For starters, our buddy Kurt over at ‪@RockHoundingAdventures‬ sent us a beautiful Juniper Ridge fire opal to cut for him, so we gave it a nice flower cut and break it down step by step. Its a very simple process that yields absolutely beautiful results! I am excited to ship it back and see what he thinks! After that, we delve into the realm of madness and cut something a little unconventional; a quartz sphere! I selected a nice chunk of fractured clear quartz specifically so that we could get some of those amazing rainbow highlights and spiral cut it into a sphere! Considering it was our very first attempt at faceting a sphere, I'd say it came out absolutely beautifully! Now that we've done one, I am absolutely going to be doing some testing on my own time and we will revisit this topic with a much larger specimen! I hope you all enjoy and have a wonderful week!

What a fun thing to do. It turned out great, squat or not. I can't wait to see the next iteration. You had sparkle from all the facets, rainbow from an internal fracture, and maybe even a Schiller. The red opal turned out to be a really beautiful stone also. I loved you display/teaser on the pod cast. Thanks for sharing your time and talent with us. We hope you and your family are all well. Be happy, safe, healthy and stay warm.😷⚒

I never in my entire life have even thought about getting into Faceting but after watching this extremely well demonstrated and instructional video and the fact that never once did I get bored or feel like I needed to jump to something else (which happens to me wayyyy too often and more than I would like to admit lol) that is HUGE in my book. I now want to seriously look into and research doing this and maybe some day down the road I will have a chance to make something so so beautiful 😍 thanks so much for being a huge inspiration glad I stumbled upon your channel!!!

The breakdown of the faceting process was super fun to watch. Thanks for going through that. The tedium is so well worth it!!! Gorgeous job on the Opal. The Dopsickle is so ridiculous, gets me every time...but in the light of doing something crazy, you come up with something incredible! Good on ya for jumping right off the cliff with that project. That sphere turned out so amazing, thanks for sharing the process.

Thanks so much!😄 you know youre about to do something crazy when you find yourself laughing at the ridiculous sight of a dop about 10 sizes smaller than your stone🤣 i love crazy though, keeps things interesting😂 im definitely looking forward to making some more of these😁 maybe look inti some bigger dops and then go even deeper into the realm of insanity😂

Beautiful job! I love how prominent the spiral is on that cut, and your quartz is gorgeous! I wish I owned a faceting machine. I was lucky enough to learn from a lapidary club that had equipment available for members to use. I know you say it takes a lot of patience, but one of the things that always kept my ADHD gotta-do-everything-now brain in check with faceting is that even though there are LOTS of facets, each one is different, you see the change in angle with new cuts, or the increased shine with facets that are being polished. It never felt like I was doing hundreds of facets. I loved it!

That is very true! They may take quite a bit of time sometimes but it is very active work😄 theres a lot of moving parts to focus on which helps it never feel monotonous, love faceting😁 its always so much fun! Thanks so much for watching!😄

Hiya Theo, that was awesome, both stones came out so beautifully 😍, I'm friends with Scott of The Adventures of Jaws Jr. Well he sent me some of the fire opals from Red October 2 mine, and they are so beautiful some stones have a lot of inclusions in them, but you can still get something awesome out of them. I really love that kind of opal, and the awesome job you did on Kirt's stone is fantastic. I applaud you on that stone 👏 , awesome video. And I would love to see you do more faceting on your channel. I hope you and your wife, and all your puppies have a awesome blessed day. Cya! 😺🐟 out!

Sweeeet! Your squaty sphere is awesome, came out so well! And the opal is great too! Really made me itch to get my faceting machine out of storage! Do you use faceting diagrams when you cut? I know I saw a great one online for a sphere and modified it to make facet-topped cabs!

Thanks so much!😄 and i actually have never used a diagram to facet before😅 probably explains why i got a squatty sphere instead of a round sphere😂 i tend to have more fun just experimenting to see what kind of cuts i winde up with, but i definitely do have some diagrams saved to make at some point! Just havent ever gotten around to using any of them😂

@@TheoKellison You do a great job, and if you can get those results without a diagram, AWESOME! I like to experiment and modify the designs in diagrams some but not as confident as you are going totally rogue! Does your machine have other index gears you can swap out, or is that the only one you use?
