I'm and first year and I've always been a major procrastinator. Despite this, I was able to do well all throughout highschool and on my external exams. As a result, I never broke these bad procrastination habits. I was always able to get away with doing to bare minimum and still getting relatively high results, and so my bad habits carried over from highschool to uni, and now, im behind on all my classes... the difference between highschool and univeristy is that atleast in highschool i was up to date with content because there was no option for me to not go to class. I feel like a failure. It's embarassing, especially since the uni im attending is "prestigous" and all my friends in my class are incredibly smart and don't appear to be struggling. it's just me. I've been contemplating switching programs in semester 2, but there is nothing else i could see myself doing, and i shouldnt just give up just like that, because I haven't even tried hard in the first place, let alone try at all. Im slowly trying to break these habits, but it's towards the end of sem 1, and I know im gonna fail, it's too late. Ill just have to hope i get better next sem :(

Hey Ky, I really understand how you feel, i was in the exact same position when I started Uni, which is what lead me to failing my first year. I also felt like a failure because i was attending a prestigious university aswell. The best course of action is obviously to overhaul those habits that are preventing you from working hard. A big lesson that I've learnt is that talent can only take you so far, and if you don't put in the work you'll fall behind. It might take a while but it will eventually happen It might be a good idea to switch your degree if you'd like, in order to get a reset of your marks. I personally did that because I didnt want a fail on my transcript 😅. I also didnt know what I wanted to do, but I just picked something and I really put all my effort into it. By the end of the degree I realise I don't want to do it, but have now come to the realisation that I want to do something else, and will be pursuing that instead. It took a long time and I wasted a lot of time, but it's better to waste 4 years figuring it out rather than 40 years in something you don't love Best of luck Ky!

Same too. I think I deserve a golden medal in procrastination. I did bare minimum in highschool and passed. Got a scholarship to the best college in our country. I started to doubt the education system and stopped caring about my studies. Now am in second semester and hv never attended a class. Am going to only do two exams which I have a clue on . The rest I hope I can proceed to next year two. Am sure I have learned my lesson.

I don't know what to do with my life. I'm in my first year, first semester, and there is only 1 week left till finals. I don't have the courage to tell my parents or others that I might fail and I don't want to be a disappointment but I know I am. I just wanted to make my parents proud with good marks & degree. I have been working and saving money for this university for awhile. I went into uni working full-time thinking I could do it, got about a little more than halfway through before I had quit my job and now it's finals and I feel useless.

Yeah this happened to me my first time around in college.... I ended up dropping out and getting my associates at a community college and then transferred back into a four yeah program and had success that time around, I was too ashamed to go back to my first 4 year college, sucked to because my brother is younger than me and he graduated at the same college I failed out of and on top of that he graduated before me and got a job in his field shortly after..... and I had nothing as of yet. and was still living with my folks....

To just vent a little bit, I am currently enrolled in my first year at my university and I have failed two semesters. I went to class at the beginning of each semester and I studied super hard. However, I got my first exam back in pretty much all my classes and it was disappointing to see such a low grade. I had worked really hard and that is the grade I got? So at that point, I stopped going to class and I didn't study because I came to the conclusion that even if I do study I'll fail anyway. I pretty much spiraled after that and I got into this depression stage where I didn't really want to do anything. I'm currently on academic probation and I'm scared about what the next semester will bring, or if I even get to go back. I can't afford to see the look on my parents' faces If I have to tell them I failed out of college. Anyway, thanks for listening.

@@Kindred-dz5ss Me too. My first three semesters were complete garbage. I failed 2/4, 1/5 and 4/5 classes in each semesters respectively. I got put on academic probation and ultimately got kicked out of my program. I'm now doing a minor in hope to get my gpa up and go back to my original path. But as much as I know that it's possible and that I can change and become a good student, I have a hard time believing in, and trusting myself. Being consistant is so hard. I'm not used to it, everything was so easy and all of a sudden I have to... work? Study? I just finished a summer class and I already know that I'm going to fail it. Again. My 8th class! Really, I should just drop out. But to do what? I can't do that. I am truly distraught. Sorry for the rant :)

Hey @@theyfwastro. So far, so good. I think what was wrong is that I didn't see any reasons or purpose to work, so I simply didn't do it. But after realizing that without school I didn't have nothing going for myself, I got a sense of urgency to do well. Kinda cheesy, I know, but after thinking about it, it resonated with me. This video sums it up: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m6xlnbdhr8rDnGg.htmlsi=IQAeeG5Z0GyTLfkK . It's definitely not going perfectly and I have my lazy moments, but I'm more consistant than a month ago. Also, many of my classes require to work in pairs, so that keeps me accountable. Anyway, I hope that helps. I believe in you 🫡

Currently failing 4/5 classes (failing all the online classes, doing good in my in person class) I don’t play video games, I don’t party, I don’t go to clubs. I have pretty bad mental health issues that are mostly managed by medication, but overall the thing I lack is work ethic UNLESS I’m absolutely obsessed with something, and even then I still procrastinate. I dropped out of college last year because of the same issues but went back thinking I was prepared. I was not. I’m at the point where I MIGHT be able to catch up and pass, but most likely I’m going to fail. I’m very scared about my future, I don’t want to get kicked out of college or not get my financial aid that I need to stay in. I can only stay at my parents home rent free while in college, my relationship’s future kind of depends on this, and I struggle to hold a job because of my problems. I could go into this a lot more, but I just want to say that I am very scared.

I faild my first year, I thought it is like high school, retake courses and u can get back on truck.. But things doesn't work that way in Uni, today I just had a conversation with an advisor and ready to apply the reinstatement letter to show that I have the ability to do study. I was totally lost myself and hanging around with some friends, not even go to school bcz it was online records. I just want to hang out. Maybe it is because I studied really hard and had a bad time before so now I did everything rataliated. Untill one day I realized I am failing the first year. And I don't know what to do now... I am really scared to tell this to my parents and my friends…

Hey Wang, I just wanted to say firstly, i'm really sorry that you failed your first year of university. I know exactly how you feel, and it really isn't like high school at all. What you need to do now is realise that you really need to get back on track and fix everything from the ground up. Like I said in the video, University really isn't easy, and if you don't treat it like a full-time job then you're going to have a hard time. I'm sure you can re-enroll into courses, or do what I did and change courses completely. This is a wake up call Wang, you can still make a difference with your grades and your university life. Take it seriously and properly try to fix things. It's not too late, you can still do it. Best of luck

Im in the same sort of position, went to uni this year to study Architecture which is something I've only ever sort of been interested in (never had a passion for architecture I just thought it was an acceptable degree). I went to uni and immediately started drinking with new found friends, staying up late and doing stuff that all 18-19 year olds do. Im coming to the end of the year and Ive completely flunked it. I had unfinished assignments from my first term which I had to do in my second term which in turn caused a lot of stress especially considering I really disliked my course and I thought the tutors were useless. Im considering transferring courses or straight up taking a year out.

2 months late, but I'm a third year student of physiotherapy and I failed 3 out of my 4 subjects this semester, which means I can't do 2/4 subjects next sem, resulting in me having to repeat third year again. I failed because: a) 3rd year is a MASSIVE step up from 2nd year, b) I wasn't prepared with the different requirements of the course (the last two years were more theory and less clinical, marking standards are harsher), c) I'd never developed consistent study habits as a result of taking advantage of my ability to pierce connections together quickly and d) I was not able to stay calm under pressure during my clinical exams. You aren't alone, nor a failure. I like to say everyone is on their own journey and it's better to taste failure now because later on when we're higher, there's more to fall down to and it's not pleasant (worse then you're feeling). I know I could have studied harder, but I studied 7x harder then I did last year and that's an achievement by itself. Even if it feel's like a snail crawl, as long as you're learning and growing that's important.

I'm not a first year (third year student of physiotherapy) but I failed 3 out of my 4 subjects this semester. This means I can't do 2/4 subjects next sem (those subjects are prerequisites), resulting in me having to repeat third year again. I failed because: a) 3rd year is a MASSIVE step up from 2nd year, b) I wasn't prepared with the different requirements of the course (the last two years were more theory and less clinical, marking standards are harsher), c) I'd never developed consistent study habits as a result of taking advantage of my ability to pierce connections together quickly and d) I was not able to stay calm under pressure, nor manage my time well during my clinical exams. I took advantage in high school of the vast amount of resources at my arsenal (good quality teachers, principal recommendation, extra tuition and my parent's guidance). When I did a challenging course that eliminated all that privilege, it was a level playing ground and well...I failed. I know that 3rd year of physiotherapy is hard and many people fail it - but 3 subjects? That was a tough pill to swallow. I think it's better I know the taste of failure now then later when I am growing and when I have the capacity to bounce back. If I was a business owner at 32 and failed then, there would be more of a fall then my current 20 year old self. I think everything happens for a reason and I think this is the universe telling that I can't progress until I develop the basic building blocks to succeed (discipline and consistency). My mum had always told me I have a lot of strengths and if I work on those two, I would be unbeatable and considering where my parent's are now, I'm inclined to believe her. Thanks for this video. I'm sure it was a challenge to expose your vulnerabilities for all (including those aunties and uncles - I'm Asian I know haha) to see, but I think you're mature for not trying to hide and smooth over it. This year has been a disaster and I'm sure next year will be better. For how would we be able to know good if we didn't know bad?

I failed 1st year too. Im also studying a Bsc. One tip that may help... For theory and understanding a concept; Find its origin Think about what depends on it and research anything (at least one thing) thats connected to it Construct a digital flashcard for it Keep an excel list with question location and correct/wrong collumns and test yourself frequently on the concept Finally think about the concept when youre not expected to (such as when watching an ad and your mind wanders to something pointless) Even if you think you now understand the concept or one of its subcategories.. ask/confirm with your lecturer!

If I gave up i would've never made it to the fourth semester would've dropped out at the first because of how awful my grades are. But trust me I understand where u re coming from. It's gonna be okay.

I found 1st year to be basically a re-hash of the HSC, to a large extent....I was a Maths major and maths, physics, chemistry etc were all a repeat of Years 11 & 12 stuff. 2nd year got harder and I gave it up as my life changed directions. I was a DE student thru UNE and they are great for older-aged students like myself. A study was done by a mob in Oz and they found that the students who do the most number of past exams are the ones who get the best results. That was the #1 determining factor.....not the only one yet was #1. Just cos one studies doesn't mean we study the right things. I found that out in my Psychology 2 exam and failed miserably until I heard the qns were taken from an online quiz which I didn't go thru....like, duh!

When is the assignment due? 😭 I think it's difficult to practice for an assignment, but my best advice is to start at the point you were comfortable and catch-up the content thereafter. I would advise catching up with the assignment in mind, and after its done try your best to catch up with everything else. If you don't have enough time, email your lecturer and ask for an extension! Can't hurt to try Some good resources that might help you are chegg online and stackoverflow Good luck!

This is just my first year of college and I'm so lost. I worked so hard this term but I still failed my class. I have never failed a class in my life, this failure just hit me. I feel so disappointed in myself, I'm a failure to my family... I know that the only step to take now is forward and do better. But I just don't know where to start. Please...help...I don't wanna give up, but this feeling is too painful.

@@charity3803 Hey, I know it might feel tough at first, but trust me, this pain is a signal that you're capable of so much more. Surround yourself with those who love and support you. The past is behind you; focus on the future. Don't let this bump in your path slow you down. If you stumble, get back up and try again. Learn from your mistakes - I've been there too, crying every night, thinking I was a failure. However, having people by my side reassured and comforted me. They demonstrated that there's still hope and encouraged me not to give up. You're doing amazing. Keep going! :)

Is there any chance left to save the life of a college student that failed 2 semesters in a row… kinda depressed now.
@amukbir8777
@amukbir8777 Жыл бұрын
There is. Remember this,your life is not over until you stop breathing. There are so many people who dont have college/uni degrees and they are doing fine in life. Also,if you have failed a year(2 semesters) you will most likely have to retake it. Its fine. Its not the end of the world. I failed 2 out of 3 modules this semester. Now I am going into the second semester and I will pass the 3 last modules. It would be 4/6 with two fails and I need 5 passed to progress to the next year. I will talk to my personal tutor tomorrow to explain what happened. For me it was a combination of bad habits , got sick during the last few weeks , new country and first time with the english educational system (im spanish) and anxiety issues before the exam. I will try again hopefully I pass. You should do the same. Try as hard as you can again. And if you dont,dont worry. Life is not just university. We need to learn and proudly look at these thing. You know deep down that you will be laughing 10 years from now about this situation. I remember the first time I failed an exam I almost cried. Now is the first time I failed,not one subject/module, but TWO of them. I feel depressed but I will be laughing at this whether I get my degree or I dont because life is just that. Talk to someone,open your heart to them with honesty and whatever you decide to do or try, YOU'VE GOT THIS 👍💪

tell you what if you ever get a class where the professor is like "there are no due dates, just make sure you have everything turned in by the end of the semester" don't fall for that...... stick with the due dates and if you have to shift an assignment to the right do that, hahah but I got CRUSHED in one of my networking classes with labs, like I was going to admit defeat but I spoke with the professor and he tried to help me out and gave me an extra day to do them and I did as much as possible and passed the class..... hahah never again wtf.....

@MattTran98

Hey! First of all im sorry that happened, CS is hard and that happens. I also failed computer science, so I know how you feel. My best advice is that you will most likely have to re-do the subject and try to do it better. Just remember that it is not the end of the world, you will be able to make it right. You have to properly learn all the content and study hard to remember the content. Practice a lot and make it better for next time. Me personally i ended up changing out of CS because I couldn't handle it. So i cant give you direct advice for computer science. All i can tell you is that it won't define your University career, it will get better I promise. But you gotta put in the effort first! Best of luck
