Checked fabric remains one of the popular textile patterns at any time. Almost any item can be sewn from a check, regardless of its size, be it a small, medium or large pattern.
The coat looks especially chic. Checkered fabric looks advantageous compared to plain models of the same style. Or a checked shirt is always a win-win option. Scarves are also a favorite accessory of the most sophisticated fashionistas.
If you have checkered items at home that are not worn, such as coats, trousers, jackets or skirts, then you can use them to sew a blanket for a sofa or a cover for an armchair.
Moreover, from checkered fabric you will get a bedspread of checkered squares.
For work I used a size of 17x17 cm, but it can be any size. As in any creativity, all lines and angles must be smooth and neat, so I used a cardboard template.
I have various leftover fabric from other projects as well as unwanted clothing. But even if these are two colors, you can arrange the squares in a checkerboard pattern.
Such a bedspread can be sewn in a patchwork style - sew the squares together, and the seams will be on the wrong side, then you can stitch the fabric on the back side.
Here I will sew the squares with the raw edges on the front side, and on the wrong side there will be even seams.
- First, I connected the squares into strips and smoothed out the seams.
- Then I stitched the strips together and smoothed the seams.
- I simply pulled out the threads that were sticking out. To process the sides, I cut strips 4 cm wide from knitted fabric.
- Processing corners.
- In the corner, I folded the binding at an angle of 45 degrees and stitched it to this oblique line.
- Then I cut the thread and folded the knitwear at a right angle. The diagonal, which is located under the stripe, was transferred to this side and began to stitch from the place where the first stitch ended, but only from above.
- I turned the binding right side out, turned it over and stitched it.
This blanket is easy to make and the results are amazing!
