I can't remember the last time I filled the cart like this at a thrift store! It was a great day! Stay tuned to the very end to see a haul and how I used some of the pieces I found in my office.

I’m loving the tacky Christmas things. LoL I bought a 1968 Joseph Markovitz pointsettia from an estate sale. It’s so tacky that it’s beautiful and it’s valued more than what I thought it would be. So, score. 😂😂

I do not need an old book... I do not need an antique book.. OMG so good! I would guess the Tennison book is around 1880s-1890s because that era had a lot of vanity editions (means fancy pants dispaly covers) and they did do copyright dates. I don't remember why. But there is a whole reason why that era lost the dates in many editions of books.

I think I had heard that before about the lack of copyrights in that period but I had since forgotten. Thanks for refreshing my memory!

I’m jealous of your Savers! The prices in mine are pretty much double what’s in yours. I spend my trips through either laughing, whispering WTF, or commiserating with other shoppers that the pricing is insane.

Hey quick thought, you resell these products but people will know how much you paid for them. So, you might want to be careful with that because I’m pretty sure people will know the price you paid. So any markup that you choose to sell it for will be noticed by subscribers like me who watch all of your shopping trips. Anyway, I do love your quickie thrifty shopping and I really appreciate it immensely. For that, I’m beyond grateful for your knowledgeable expertise on types of items to look for. Thanks, and I wish you well with your business, and Blake is great when he’s with you. I would love to see more of him looking at records and vintage items like that. It’s just my personal opinion, and that only. ❤

Blake will be happy to hear he has a fan 😂 He’s in most of my “regular” videos which right now are the videos from Oregon. It gets a little confusing mixing these thrifty quickies into the mix, I know. I’m trying to figure out how to make my different content series a little more clear. But he’s in all the Oregon trip ones! 😁 As for showing the prices, most of the vintage resellers on KZfaq show what they paid for things and I don’t mind doing it. It’s good to show why I won’t buy something if it’s too expensive to educate other new resellers who might be watching. That’s how I learned when I was first starting out, by watching videos. I think as long as I continue to ask fair market value for things, not way above what it’s worth, it doesn’t matter that I got them for a “bargain.” But my markups are generally speaking way less than any store that sells new merchandise. People understand that’s how this works. I have to make a profit in order for this to be a viable business. Every store marks up their merchandise way over their cost of goods. That’s how they stay in business. Sure Target or Walmart isn’t exactly advertising that their $15 shirts cost 10¢ to make 😂 So I know it’s a little different. But most people like to see the amazing bargains we can find for the vintage things, too. That’s the entertainment value… wow that thing worth $200 only cost $10! Etc. But as always, anyone is welcome to try to find these things on their own for the thrift store price. Sourcing these things is hit and miss and you can easily look for years for something specific and never find it. I’m also a collector and I never care what a reseller paid for something. I’m happy if they made a big profit off of me. If they found something I’ve been looking for forever, I’m willing to pay the fair full price for it. Anyway, that’s my view on the whole thing, but I appreciate your thoughts on it too!

@@MidCenturyWastedThanks from the bottom of my heart for your clarity on the situation I was curious about. For you to spend your time responding to me in a positive and timely fashion is so awesome. I’m a collector/borderline hoarder of way too many things that I have inherited from my father. He is so special to me, and he was a major collector in of vintage and antique items. I learned a lot from him about all of this unique pieces that he left for me. In his last few years I was able to spend quality time with him, as his caretaker and only child. The stories behind each item is so special and I have no idea how I’m going to be able to part with his stuff. Do you have any suggestions for me, in regards to the sentimental aspect of his stuff that also have enormous value to others. I want to hold on to everything,however, as an only child, I’m stuck on what should be the first step in organizing the stuff. ❤

I am sure that the 10 cents out of every $100 dollars donated by Savers will certainly ‘SAVE’ a lot of community groups. Can we say Geed! Everyone should apply for 501c3 non-profit status.
@MidCenturyWasted
@MidCenturyWasted 11 ай бұрын
That's not their business model. They're a for-profit secondhand store and very upfront about it. Not every thrift store MUST be a non-profit. I also shop at Amazon, Target, grocery stores, clothing stores, and plenty of other retail stores that are not non-profits. Everyone loves to criticize Savers and Goodwill for their business practices but I just see it as virtue signaling.

Hi, Just wanted to ask you about the two glasses at the beginning of this video. I couldn't understand exactly what you said about them? Something about them be painted maybe but you said something else about them that I couldn't catch what you said a little fast when you spoke. Is it not good to buy painted glasses? They did look nice. Where Is your Savers? Do you ever look at or buy jewelry there?
@MidCenturyWasted
@MidCenturyWasted 11 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the questions... the glasses were "flashed" or essentially the color was applied and not part of the glass itself. It's just a sign of lower quality and the color tends to scrape off and flake over time. I do look at jewelry, if you go back to some previous "thrifty quickie" videos you'll see I've found some pretty nice things here before! My Savers is a newer one, opened just this March in Huntington Beach, CA. Thanks for watching!

@@MidCenturyWasted Thanks so much for your reply. I am a senior citizen and don't have a car anymore so have to take buses to thrift shops. I love dangling type earings but they have to be clip-ons as I don't have pierced ears. If you look at the jewelry at the stores you shop at and have time to look through the earings for clip ons but dangling ones (not those little round button earings) maybe I could buy from you. Can't afford too much these days only have social security. 😊 Thank you.
