In the summer of 2020 I realized I needed to make some major changes in my life. I decided I wanted to lose 80lbs and would do a vlog series on my channel chronicaling the journey. Unfortunatley 4 years later I was still trying to hit that goal. This is the story of me finally figuring out what I was doing wrong and starting the journey the right way.

Contrary to most beliefs, I found the e-bike the best weight-loss tool. I do strength training 5days a week, and with the ebike, i can set the assist level to be just enough to keep me in zone 2 without tiring my legs and not hindering my lower body workout.

I had kidney cancer awhile back and in 2018 lost my left kidney, went through all the fun things that come with it. I really didn't have much of a support system and became extremely depressed, to the point I just wanted to end it all. In my depression my thyroid decided to go haywire and I put on alot of weight. I'm currently over 300 lbs. Sometimes, I feel like im too heavy to ride my bike. I work a very physical job and I go to the gym a few times a week but, the hardest thing is sticking with a healthy diet. Mcdonald's is only a couple blocks away so, it's definitely easy to get side tracked. My girlfriend has started helping with finding healthy alternatives to all the junk I had been consuming and is going to start going to the gym with me. My goal is to be able to get my life back, my health back, and to be able to get back on my bike. You are an absolute inspiration, keep shredding 🤙

What I learned from my Mom's weight loss journey is that there are few basic rules that must be followed to actually lose weight. What works for one person may not work for everyone, but here is what she found to work for her. First rule is there must be a calorie deficit. You must eat less than you burn that day. Second, carbs need to be reduced, even if you have a calorie deficit. You just cannot eat a lot of carbs and lose a significant amount of weight. Third too much fat will also prevent weight loss. And finally, you must eat enough protein each day to prevent your muscles from wasting away, and the protein itself will help to curb your hunger. She used whey protein isolate to make sure she got enough protein each day because it is really hard to eat enough protein from food without eating too many calories to lose weight. Good luck everybody.

The big secret of weight loss is to limit your calories, nothing dire, you don't have to be hungry. I had reached 302 lbs. and decided I needed a change. I limited myself to 2000 calories a day and dropped 50lbs. I had a lot of stress at work and put 30 lbs back on. Finally at the end of 2022 I retired and after that went back to my 2000 calorie limit. I wrote down everything I ate. Today I'm at 223 lbs, 79 lbs. lost. The biggest thing is to get rid of the empty calories, I stopped drinking soda and eating candy bars and cupcakes. I give myself a day off on birthday, etc. but I have smaller portions. Still losing and aiming for 200.

"Nobody said it was easy." Losing weight is probably one of the hardest challenges one can attempt, especially when you're used to a certain lifestyle. Old habits have a tendency to not only die hard but also rise from the dead. Personally, I found out for myself that counting calories really does the trick for me to hack my own psychology and take out the guess work. Weighing in daily also helps me holding myself accountable every day and holding close watch on my progress and/ or slip ups. A daily challenge just seems more manageable to me. Whatever path you chose, I'll be rooting for you.

Meats, veggies, some fruit. Sourdough if you absolutely must have bread here and there. The rest is just totally unnecessary to your body. My breakthrough came when I realized that most things that were called food, were not. I finally broke the eating schedule habit and just ate when I was hungry. Not bored hungry, but stomach rumbling hungry. Turns out, a meal and a snack is usually all I need per day. I dont count calories anymore, I simply give my body what it needs and nothing more.

Out of all the get fit journeys I’ve watched in KZfaq by so called experts , yours is the one which I relate to most mate, I’m in the same boat as you, roughly the same size at your biggest and suffer with the same day to day struggles as you do. I love your doggedness and determination and I’m sure you’ll get to your end goal, much respect, Rusty🥊

Man I’m so glad I got back into mtb. As of January 2024 I was 330 lbs and hadn’t rode my bike in 6 months. Not to injury but just from lack of motivation. Has of today 7/5/24 I am down to 255 and have been riding as much as I can and makes is way easier to bike and so glad I came back across your channel. You got it brother now have motivated me even more to get down in the 220s

Rob, I been watching you on your journey. I have to say you impress me! I myself started 2023 losing weight, eating right. As time went on, I fell off the wagon, and I went right back to where I started. Now I'm back on track, and this time it's 1000% my new lifestyle and I'm loving it!!! I'm down from 229 to 211 in 3 months! You, sir, are a beast at dropping those pounds!!! So I hope me taking a page from your book and finding success helps you to keep living your new lifestyle! You are awesome!!! Thanks for all the content in the last 5-6 years

Keep at it! I was 370 last year and I got down to 290 this week and it’s been tough giving up the things I wanna eat. I’ve been on carnivore for a while now and it’s honestly been amazing with how my body has changed. Yeah it’s hard going week to week without seeing the weigh coming down but the physical changes I’ve seen are worth it. Your channel and podcasts have been a huge support to keep going.

Every time you post one of these updates, I feel like I'm looking in a mirror. We might live on opposite coasts, but we're on the exact same journey. Keep up the strong work.
