I'm not a pro but i know quite a few defending tips that separates the average from the elite. -Player switching (Pros switch using the right stick 85% of the time and this is the major skill gap) - When jockeying, be very gentle on the left stick and make sure you dont reach the end of the radius to avoid overcomitting( this tends to be overlooked...holding both sprint and jockey without holding direction ,the player stands still but lowers the COG, that means what makes you overcommit to one direction is the amount of force you use to hold the left stick, Even when chasing an attacker down the wing, just hold your sprint and be gentle on the left stick(dont hold to the end radius), your defender will still run to full sprint and not commit to one way when the attacker changes direction)

seems to me they try to make the game switch the player you are controlling and then he abandons defense before you can switch back to him and get him back into position

I recently played fut draft and omg the high rated meta cards do make playing so much easier. Automatic defending at times. Went 4-0 and was the easiest time ever doing so

I do almost everything you said in the video and still concede many shit goals. But that is the game mechanics and we just have to accept it, and try not to let it affect our mentality. I am an average player who gets around 10 wins in Fut champ and highest division I reached is D3. I think good defending is the key to get from D8 to D3 but then what separates elite players from average players is the build up. Very good players seem to have plans in build up so they can do it very quickly without too much thinking. They can just make a few passes quickly then the striker gets the ball and score. But for me I often need to think for a while to see how the AI players are positioned and the opponents can press me easily when I am thinking. The midfielders are usually marked and don't move much so it is very hard to build up from the back. There are not many good videos out there about build up. Could you try to make one? Thank you!

I wonder if this is my connection (90ms) but being reactive inside my own box is not working for me. I've always defended like that, but I am getting punished again and again this year. If I just stand there and let the opponent make the first move, then there is no way I can catch up to him. I have to be proactive and try to read and predict his moves. The only way to remain in a position of defending is to move first. And that is insane because defending has never been like that. I hated this game until I learned this

For me, the first step is accept the fact that no matter how good you are at defending, you will still concede goals. Once you're at peace with this fact you will learn more.

So frustrating when you try to second man press with whoever is closest to the ball & it selects the wrong player so you need to do it again

Question, I am fairly new to this game and it seems like the community mostly uses player relative switching. It seems more logical to go with ball relative because it entirely removes that entire part you talk about being confusing at around 8 min in because you just need to know where ur player is in relation to the ball and flick that way. Am I missing something or is this like a new option and everyone is just used to player relative so don't care to switch? Have always wondered this. Great information in your videos keep it up. Can you please suggest which Defending style is the best to use ? Is it Legacy, Tactical or Advanced ? Since my childhood i am comfortable with legacy now I feel to make pace with the game I need to change to advanced. Can the learning from this video be applied to legacy style or it is only meant for Advanced?

I am used to l stick dribbling when defending the ball and even for creating spave but i noticed the motion of l stick dribbling is too slow. did they update even that?

I was a good fifa player back when I was young. Now Im getting older and cant find alot of time for games. Its been 5-6 years since I played. I thought why not give it a go and made the purchase. Boy the learning curve is so f*cked up it literally ended it for me forever. Waste of money

that is easy to say if you play against human and you know how they play. Do it against legendary AI and you will see it has not that effect :D They protect the ball like terminator :D

this game is just pay to win. if you up against people like R9 you can not defend. and please tell me in what football game the players stand still and just watch opponent scoring goals. and issue like down to by-line and cut back is also not fixed. now the new corner issue. in short this game is shit.

Simple answer the game is shit for defending even 22 and 23 was better than this crap also who ever invented the r1 dribble needs to be sacked or send him over to nhl because it’s a football game not ice skating
