I think Ron is the stabilizing agent in the trio. Not to say that he isn't a moody teen, but Harry usually has the specific knowledge they need, and Hermione usually has the technical knowledge that they need. Ron knows a lot about a lot of random stuff, and he does a great job of filling the gaps in.

Hermione was the screenwriter's favourite character so he glowed her up and gave her all of Ron's best bits relegating him to comic relief. The dynamic should have been Harry the hero in training, Hermione the gifted but prone to freeze under pressure prodigy and Ron the streetwise kid who grew up in the magic world and knows how to navigate it.

The Potter Family have a long history of inventing spells, charms, magical objects and medical potions that people use on a regular basis. Harry being the only surviving member of his family inherited everything. He is the owner of all of those patents. That’s why he’s super rich. The money magically appears in his vault.

I went through the first book and I was schocked at that scenen when Ron fights with Draco! Each of them are a bit more snappy in the books, they keep getting angry at each other, it goes from "we love each other so much, we want all the best in the world for each other and we're going to do the nicest things for each other" to "Oh you annoy me so much you freaking rat" back and forth 😂 it's so entertaining and funny, though it's not the most mature dynamic. I still love this trio, though, don't get me wrong

Ron adds a lot to the story in the books. Since both Harry and Hermione were raised by non-magic people, Ron is the one introduces wizarding world to them. Also he has a lot of practical knowledge and is Harry's best mate. The movies did him dirty, turning him into a gluten and comic relief. In each movie, they gave the best of his lines to Hermione to make her look more badass.

Actually if you consider IQ the best measure for intelligence, Ron is the most intelligent of the trio. He is a little lazy but still manages to get great grades. He learns naturally, while Hermione learns mechanically. He's also the clutch player of the team, he is way better in tough situations than Harry and especially Hermione, who always gets flustered.

FYI about the Sorting Hat: - the whole conversation between Harry and SH only happened in his head. So was with all other kids. - the SH assigns kids to the house according to what they value, not by how they act. - Gryffindor values courage, Ravenclaw values knowledge, Hufflepuff values loyalty, Slytherin values ambition. - some kids took longer than the others, because they weren't clear of the things they value yet, or which one they value more. - Harry has the ambition. He's an orphan who just found out about his fame, wealth, a whole new world etc. But when meeting Malfoy + probed by the SH, he became resolute that he'd rather have courage over reputation.

Well, recently (like a few weeks ago), Hogwarts Mystery (which is considered canon by JKR) says it is about where the kids WANT to be most. Though the kids are not aware of that. I don't really like this idea much. My eleven-year-old self would have wanted Ravenclaw. But I already knew at thirteen that Hufflepuff would be more my love and family. And now, at 23, I adore Hufflepuff and can't consider any other house (even though Ravenclaw's common room is gorgeous)!
@galinabrack6057
@galinabrack6057 Жыл бұрын
And technically speaking, SH never said Harry should be in Slytherin. He only even started saying Harry might be good in there after Harry said he did not want to be Slytherin. And his wording was not as specific. I still enjoy the idea of Slytherin-Harry, but it would not be where I would truly consider him to belong. Harry, as well as most students, have traits of all four houses. Harry would be good anywhere. But I think he would be best in Gryffindor, followed by Hufflepuff, then Slytherin, then Ravenclaw.

The first 3 books dropped in the 90s, the 4th in 2000, and the 1st movie released in 2001. The books were gaining a big following before the movie, but afterwards it drew in a huge new audience. Book stores started doing midnight releases for each book after that, where people would stand in line for hours to get their book. There were a few years between each book, so people were theorizing like crazy on forums online during that time. It was seriously one of the most fun times of my life and I hate that there is nothing else like it.

In the books, Ron is a highly loyal friend, although he has insecurities about being The Chosen One's friend later on when his masculinity becomes more of a thing he wants to assert. Ron is recklessly brave, he protects them in various events and stands up bravely for them in most encounters. He's self-sacrificing most times too and very caring. He learns from Hermione more often than she realizes (though he doesn't make it a point to let on that he does), and when she slowly starts to see how much he pays attention to her and her efforts and vision (like with SPEW - an elfish activist initiative), she falls for his more pristine qualities. Although, he is also a jerk, dim to the point of being a muggle, and she's sort of compromising, but you can't miss that he has a really good highly loyal heart faults and all.

The issue with Ron’s role in the Harry Potter Movies is, that they they stole a lot of HIS smart remarks and made it hers. In the books, Hermine still is smart as heck, but as she’s a Muggle born, she cannot know as much stuff about the wizard’s world, as Ron. I find it sad, they made him a laughing stock, so they can make Hermione some kind of unrealistic Super Girl. There was no reason to do that. She already had a great role to play in the books.

Ron's contribution to the trio is being street smart. Ron is a pureblood, which means his whole family is magical and he lives in wizarding society. He knows about culture, people, magic and even a little about politics. Hermione is book smart. She knows a lot because she reads a lot, but some things aren't taught through books. She also has a difficulty of accepting ideas that aren't 100% logical. Harry is simply powerful. He doesn't study that much, but when it's time to act, he's the best.

This. In the books they make it even more obvious with the things guarding the stone: Snape had left a riddle with some potions that would let you through, let you go back, or just kill you, which Hermione could solve. Harry's skills as a seeker help him grab the key, and Ron wins the chess game to sacrifice himself. In the Devil's Snare trap, the 3 work together. Harry acts more calm under pressure, helping to calm down the others. Hermione remembers how to stop the plant with light, but says she wishes she had something to start a light. Ron, the only one who's used to magic from everyday life, reminds them that they are wizards. I do love the films, but they do make Ron somewhat less useful.

Hermione is picks up the spells very quickly. Harry is the athlete, and has the "destiny" mark as the boy who defeated Voldemort. They all have important skills, but Ron's don't come across well in the movies. Likewise, they all have their flaws as well. Harry can get a bit hot-headed and reckless. Ron is often unsure of himself (he's the youngest of six brothers, and has a lot to live up to). And Hermione tends to panic and worry and obsess.

yes! an example of his own intelligence and awareness that even i sometimes forget about is that he caught on that the mirror of erised was bad news after just one visit whereas harry got swept up. it showed him his literal dream come true and he was still savvy enough to realize that it was dangerous

One of the saddest parts of the movies is like all the side characters basically got all their lines cut. Your basically funneled into the main 3. You rarely hear shamus or dean talk even tho in the books they actually have a decent amount of lines. It hurts that feeling of Harry going to a school and making a ton of friends. It’s more like he only knows 2 ppl.

These movies can’t all be 3 hours just to cover every inch of the books lol they would draw on for far too long, and it’s better to establish a connection with the main characters rather then focus on two random side characters you wouldn’t care about as a casual watcher who didn’t read the books beforehand

I'm sure someone else already said this, but the books came first. They were INSANELY popular! Bookstores would have midnight specials when they were finally allowed to sell them. Parents would bring their children to wait outside bookstores while wearing Hogwarts costumes. People would take off school or work until they had finished the book! Rowlings was still writing the subsequent books when the first movies came out. There was DEFINITELY Harry Potter Mania. I had babies at that time and couldn't be bothered with such things. Thank goodness I tried it later. Marvelous series.

Yes, the books came first. I'd love to answer all your questions, but I simply can't - not without spoiling the plot of the next 7 movies. :) One thing that I will comment on is the trios roles in the story and mainly Ron. Harry is of course the main character and "the chosen one" and as such gets the most attention. He is naturally gifted in certain areas of magic (mainly defenssive magic and flying) and fairly average in the rest. He doesn't have the same drive and academic skills as Hermione for sure. Hermione is extremely gifted academicly and has high discipline. as she is known: "the most brilliant witch her age". But like Harry she grew up in the muggle world and all her knowledge about the wizarding world comes from books. She lacks experience. Then we come to mr. Ronald Weasley. He, like Harry, isn't academicly gifted and doesn't have the discipline for studying. Sadly in the movies his character has kinda been reduced to comic relief and many of his lines given to Hermione as she is the "smart one". Ron isn't stupid - for one example: he's the only one of the trio that can actually play chess properly. (the chess sequence was changed in the movie - in the book he doesn't ride the chess piece, but takes its place - so he actually IS knocked out - but I guess they didn't want to show that in a kids movie). His big advantage over both Harry and Hermione is that he's from a wizarding family - he's known magic his whole life and knows how the wizarding world works. His father works at the ministry and his family has been part of the restiance against Voldemort since the beginning.
@Arthaius
@Arthaius Жыл бұрын
- Technically, Ron isn't exactly "Riding the Chess Piece" - The piece Ron is 'subbing in for' is called a "Knight", and on properly detailed / fancy chess pieces, the Knight is the man / soldier who is riding a horse, if you watch closely you should see that the second Knight piece has a human riding it, but the one Ron takes is just the Horse, so technically Ron is in place of the Knight because a Knight isn't a horse, but the person riding a horse. But it is interesting to learn from you that in the book they specifically say Ron is on the board without a horse; seems to me like the Movie got it more accurate than the book if the book in fact does specifically eliminate the horse part of the chess piece - at least that would be my viewpoint, lol.

The Harry Potter Theory channel did a "What if Harry was in Slytherin" theory, where Hagrid never made the comment about most dark wizards being Slytherins, so Harry didn't insist on "Not Slytherin" to the hat. A very interesting video. Slytherins are NOT "The Bad Guys" as many fans seem to think. It's just that their house values Ambition and cleverness, and a lot of ambitious clever people can break bad more easily. Heck, MERLIN was a Slytherin, and he was about as far from a dark wizard as you can get.

I watched the first movie as a child and immediately fell in love! I then found out that it was based on a book. I begged my parents to please buy me the book. That christmas they surprised me with a paperback box set because, unbeknownst to me, there were actually 4 books out at the time. I thought there was only one at the time lolol I loved to read, so I devoured those books and read them so many times that they literally started falling apart, and I mean that in a literal sense. The spines are split and peeling, there are pages missing and bent in a million directions, the covers for some of them have come off and one of my cousins, who was always a complete ass to me, grabbed my Goblet of Fire book while I was reading it, and threw it on the floor. And because my books were literally falling apart because I read them so much, the book split into two pieces. I was so sad, but continued reading it because it was a gift from my parents. Whenever the next book in the series came out, my parents would buy it for me 💕 and they would specifically buy me the hardcover with the sleeve. I think they thought they would survive more wear and tear, but they are all messed up too from me reading them over and over. I still have all of those books and even the box the first 4 books came in! And the first 4 books are still in that box 💕 The book series have meant so much to me. I'm 30 now and I'm eternally grateful that my parents bought me that box set and the rest of the books 🥹

I heard about HP as they were getting ready to release the first movie; I bought the first book just to see if it was any good, then bought the rest; and waited years for The Order of the Phoenix and the rest and for the movies after each book came out. I should add I'm an old man now, was in my 50's when I got the first one. I think the story is brilliant and appeals to all ages. And JK sure as hell put a twist or two into them! If it matters to you there were so many copies sold you can find them for a pittance in used book stores. But of course you want to keep the ones your folks got for you!

I guess it’s just like other things but I can’t imagine growing up having not known Harry Potter. It’s a yearly movie marathon, it’s a comfort blanket when needed, it’s a rabbit hole of lore and theories when you want it, it’s got tonnes of related products available everything from slippers to video games. Like it’s everywhere and it doesn’t seem to get old. And so it’s so cool to see people experience these things for the first time and see what they make of it, finding the same joy in the moments that I still love many years on. These films and books brought me up through my teen years and I wouldn’t have it any other way

Books came first Alex. I read them as an adult after my mum recommended them to me. They work for us too, as I think it takes you back to being a kid while being entertaining even as an adult too. First time I've watched the US version. I knew they renamed the books/movie title, but was surprised they even got the actors to redo their lines to fit the title. Added scenes in it too.

@@PhilBagels the movie for Star Wars was written first. George Lucas hired a writer to write a book to go along with it for promotion purposes and they were supposed to drop around the same time, but the film got delayed.

And can we just give props to director Christopher Columbus for the excellent casting in these movies? He directed the first two and every character from Harry to the Durnsleys, Dumbledore to Snape were all cast perfectly.

Uh, directors direct. There are other people who do the casting. 4 of them for this particular movie.

Funny you asked what Ron’s role in the trio was cause the movies pretty much cut his role from what I remember. He’s the only one of the three who was raised in a wizard family, so he’s their anchor and guide in a way in the wizard world. He’s also just super loyal and really calm under pressure, which kinda counteracts Hermione who kinda panics when pressed, but they cut that too, so I guess he provides jokes? Is what it is I guess

I remember the Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. There wasn't originally a dead fish flavor. The worst flavor at the time was vomit. What was so strange was that, based on the image on the back of the box, when you thought you had toasted marshmallow, you actually had vomit. It's as if there was some massive manufacturing mix-up.
