As an owner of a 2021 f150 hybrid, there's no way in hell you'll get 35 mpg in any situation. Best I got was 27 city (mostly downhill) which is great but the return trip I got 17 (uphill). I do love this truck but let's be realistic. This does not get 24/24. But it's about 20% better in city and 5% better on the highway. Plus you get the awesome generator. It's a great truck!

Mileage depends upon situation. I got 6.5 this morning and my record is 32 MPG over ~40 minutes on I10-I35 north of San Antonio. The circumstances matter a lot. On the highway, wind resistance takes over: if you drive at 63-68 MPH, you will get 23-24 MPG, but if you are willing to draft behind an 18 wheeler, you can get 26-28 MPG. If you drive at 80 MPH, you will get about 18-19 MPG. In the city, for very short trips you will get awful MPG (particularly in winter when it will run the engine to warm up the engine and battery), but for 3-5 mile trips at 25-40 MPH, you can easily get 24 MPG. Finally, towing, you are NOT going to get 21 MPG. I don't have direct experience with this circumstance yet (I will update this post if I remember), but most folks are reporting mileage that is equivalent to the 3.5L Ecoboost (i.e. 12-15 MPG). The thing that has impressed me the most is how quiet it is, engine or no. The sound insulation is just chopped foam, so it's almost 100% powertrain engineering that keeps it so quiet.

I’ve had multiple 10spd F150s and the “skip” shift is normal for those trucks. If you select sport mode the truck will use every gear up to 10th when you accelerate from a stop.
@JuanMartinez-gu8sh
@JuanMartinez-gu8sh 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Scotty, The transmission is supposed to skip 2nd or even 4th during normal driving. If you request power via the foot feed, it will shift into those gears. Or - you select "Tow-Haul" or "Sport" mode and it will always use the next sequential gear up or down. Daily mixed driving with at least 50% city highway in the DFW area I'm averaging 22.4mpg since my last oil change about 7500 miles ago. I always leave trip 2 computer alone between oil changes to gauge what the engine is doing. I reset trip 1 every fill-up and can also see the trend move up - down based on my driving habits or fuel blends, E.g. winter blend vs. summer blend. I had better mpg in the summer, somewhere around 22.9-23.2 with the same driving. And... obviously, it an "Ecoboost" engine with an electric motor so... If you request "Boost", you got it! But along with that comes lots of fuel! This thing will really scoot. Lots of folks don't realize you need to train your truck to drive economically. Do it over a few weeks/fill-ups. If you run like a scalded "you know what" for a few days you will get worse mpg even when you drive relaxed thereafter... until it relearns that you aren't running from the cops.

What charges the large battery (high voltage) on the 7.2 generator model? Something on the motor but what?
@JuanMartinez-gu8sh
@JuanMartinez-gu8sh Жыл бұрын
@@billl3936 it’s Constantly being recharged. Either by the engine or regeneration while coasting or braking. The battery is the same size on all hybrids. The inverter for the on board pro power generator has nothing to do with the performance of the truck. It’s simply an option for how much power you want the battery to provide as a generator.

Ford F150 Powerboost is the only true hybrid vehicle in my eyes that totally nailed the concept. It has a combustion engine mated with a electric motor. Has a small battery that is able to power the electric motor to drive the truck for a short distance at lower speeds. Then the combustion engine can take over and recharge the battery while it powers the truck, then repeat. Also the truck can be used as a large generator to power large tools and multiple appliances. Then the truck can turn on combustion engine to recharge the battery and repeat. And my favorite hybrid option is to run the AC and heat with the combustion engine off only running from the battery until depleted, then the combustion engine will start to recharge the battery and repeat. This is what I call a true hybrid. If Ford can duplicate this feat with all other models they will dominate. And no need to go all electric for now.

I have never been a fan of hybrid systems, for me a good old used truck with a reliable V8 would be my choice. Electric pickups I can see them being used at Airports, Mills, Processing Plants and the like, where they could go charge up if they needed to. Forgot I remembered that in 2021 the F150 can get an onboard Generator, so maybe the F150 EV can get a charge from a regular F150.

I have had this truck (the Sport Lariat edition) since October. It's been great. I was leary at first of a hybrid, but this isn't your grandma's prius kind of hybrid. When you punch it, you get twin turbos plus that 54 electric hp motor! It moves! Like Scott said, you have the best of both worlds. You get the power you need when you need it and much better gas mileage when you don't need the power. The 7.2 KWH onboard generator with 220 v and 120 volt outlets. This will power our camper off grid if we wanted. With the supercrew can, we flip the back seats up, and our two large Airedale Terriers have plenty of room when we go on trips. As for the 2nd gear issue, I barely notice it or care. It depends on what bothers you or not. We did get an extended warranty just because of all the tech which will be very expensive if any of it fails. All in all, it's a great truck, and it fits in well with our life style of trailer towing, camping, and working our our 10 acre property.

You’re probably correct with the F150 hybrid not lasting 400k miles, but you have to keep in mind the savings in cost of gas over 400k miles. You’ll spend roughly between $25,000 and $30,000 more on fuel for your Tundra than on on an F150 hybrid. Of course the hybrid will be more to work on and there are other variables too, but this is just food for thought. By the way, I bought my 2021 Powerboost, XLT, with lots of upgrades and paid $53,500. The MSRP was right at $60k. I got it in March before the the chip shortage changed everything. The new Tundra’s cost about the same too.

A few thoughts about this video…I own a 21 Powerboost that Ford is doing a buyback on. I had transmission problems from the start. A new transmission was put in at 800 miles. Problems still persisted, but Ford is making it right. I just ordered a new 22 Powerboost yesterday. Other than the transmission, I love this truck. I work out of my truck and I love being able to run the a/c or heat, 4G hotspot, power my computer and printers all with just battery power. In other words, no engine idle except when the truck turns on to recharge the batteries. In my case, the engine comes on about every 7-8 minutes for around 45 seconds to charge the batteries. Also, as it pertains to gas mileage, I would almost bet my life the owner did not get 21 MPGs pulling an 8k lb. trailer. I’ve pulled a few light loads (2k lbs.) and got 14-16 MPG. I did take a trip from TN to NC (575 miles UNLOADED) and got 26.8 MPG driving the speed limit or 1 or 2 over. This was hand calculated. All in all, this is a great truck.

Love my 2021 F150 Powerboost Hybrid Platinum. Current MPG after 2500 miles is only 22 with mix of highway and roads. Agree with low speed gear skipping, need to bring mine as well. With a > 600 mile range with a full tank, I'm loving the efficiency and range. Not buying the Lightening any time soon. Thank you for your video!

Ford's 10 speed transmission is so bad that their transmission techs are walking off the job. I was without my 19 5.0 10 speed trans @46k for 3 months before I traded it while it was in the shop for a different brand. The first dealership I took it to, the tech walked out after swapping the throttle body which didn't fix it. This dealer had it over a month. They called me and said I'd have to find another dealer to finish the repair. I found another dealer 80 miles away from the first that took it and they kept it another 2 months. I hadn't paid for the "Golden Warranty" so I wasn't eligible for a loaner the whole time I was without my truck. I traded it for a 21 Titan and 2 months later I got a Ford Service survey from a 3rd dealer that apparently finished the job. Now I know what the "F" in Ford stands for and their crack will grow together before I buy or recommend anything with Ford on it.

I also had a 19 5.0 and the 10 speed tranny was complete junk. I also had the "typewriter noise" that apparently is completely normal. The thing chugged oil back which ford said was normal. Good thing it was a lease. Now I got a 21 with the 3.5 eco and I gotta say the tranny is much better with this one. I have weird electrical problems sometimes. The paint job is horrible, has dirt in it and clear bubbles everywhere. I waited 6 months for it and was pretty disappointed with the quality control. Good thing it's also a lease. Scary to buy a new Ford truck these days.

When I bought my truck I ran the numbers often it was just as cheap to buy the f250 as it was the 150. I was hesitating because the 10 speed was out and the 7.3 was about to be released. However, I didn't want to be the first in line beta tester so I went with the f250 and the tried and true gas 6.2L with the 6 speed trans. Love the setup and its plenty quick with the 4:30 rear end. MPG sucks at 14 and ride a little rough but overall its been a good truck so far.

These hybrids are a great alternative to EVs. As it stands right now an EV can’t match real world highway range of a hybrid system. Especially when you factor in accessories, towing and payload, but can and probably will change.

Shame they haven't pushed for a coyote powered hybrid. Maybe there's an issue there with space or something that makes it prohibitive, which is understandable, it's just, for me, the only way I'd buy a hybrid F150. Barring that, I'll stick to my current coyote powered truck I guess.

I just bought one. The Power is insane....This truck flat out moves. The amount of Tech in this truck blew me away. I came from a 2017 Silverado LTZ 5.3 and this truck flat out performs every aspect of the Silverado. The Fuel Mileage I am told takes a little while to build up through the break in process, but even with that, I am above the Silverado. My only knock is the Stereo. I got the B&O Unleashed, and compared to the Bose system in the Silverado, it isn't even fair. But it is still better than the average Stereo.

I'll keep my 02 Silverado. Just put $1700 into it replacing the main rear seal and the oil pump. Running like new with 350k on the odo. Doesn't even have the GM lifter tap any more. Completely gone. Runs so smooth its scary at 350k. Motor should be good till 500k now. I like it because there are very few sensors to go bad and drive you crazy. How much are those hybrid trucks?? $40-50k at least?? . That buys a lot of extra gas.

I hated the hybrid when it first launched. I am not one to go for anything but the V8. Then I looked at the hour meter on my 2015 Lariat, and realized almost a third of the hours are idling. Then the owner of my dealer started showing me more on those trucks and I was impressed. We’ll see what the future holds, I might need an F250 by then. But the hybrid will hands down be the one is not. I just wish I could get one in a SuperCab

Scotty....your whistling past the graveyard on 2 items. Most of these new ford hybrids are 60,000 grand and up. In the short term 3 to 4 years that may make sense, however that technology aint't cheap and if it breaks you are going to be on a steep learning curve. I have an 86 GMC in the garage that still runs and it cost me less than the sales tax on that monster. I would get the 6.2 liter and pay extra for the gas. Best of luck to that guy!

Scotty is great. But one of his initial comments was about back seat area. We bought the F150 crew cab because it had the biggest back seat area and needed that for a move from Alaska to Nevada, which also served as a break-in period for the truck. Anyway, we were able to stack 2 very large trunks in the back (plus more) with the seats folded up, and we had tried both GM and Chrysler trucks that could not get them in. This was one of the many reasons we went with the F150. Side note - we would like to buy one of these hybrids today, but Ford not taking orders. I wonder why scotty doesnt give sticker prices on new vehicles tested? Thats ok , I guess - I appreciate his content very much.
