Scotty, love your videos. On the mileage average I would guess that the posted 18.5mpg was based upon segment of distance that can be adjusted as on my Yukon. Mine is usually set to the last 400 miles, which is typical mileage I get per tank. It can be adjusted to 200 or reset to zero to get more accurate daily driving as you were doing. My guess is Ford is the same. Been looking at the Bronco in the same color. Very timely video. Thumbs up!

Nice car! As for the refresh rate with MPGs, if I’m not mistaken, the longer it goes the slower it refreshes. On our Pacifica, after you reset it, it refreshes constantly and then gradually slows down. If not reset long enough, it seems like it never refreshes. Actually, I reset it every time I flll up and if I stop when the pump shuts off (as I usually do), the readout is very accurate (within 1 MPG either way). I also check it manually. Just a thought. Have a great day!

Scotty, the likely reason the mpg was not changing is because it was on the lifetime mpg for the vechile. Usually that doesn't get reset unless done by the user. You probably just need to change a setting to get the current mpg.

@@4wdiesels It's not a bug. That bronco has nearly 8,000 miles on it and the mpg was likely not reset during that time, so even if you stomp on the gas it's not going to change the average mpg over that 8,000 miles much if any.

Scotty, I love your channel and almost always agree with you - however buying a Ford 4 cylinder engine is a mistake. Starting in the late 80's, Ford makes the valve guides out of metal shavings, mixed with something similar to epoxy and compressed. Somewhere between 60 and 85Kmiles, they start to disintegrate and pieces of them fall on top of the piston without warning. Then the piece gets between the piston and the head when the piston comes up blows a hole in the piston, and about 30% of the time cracks the head as well. This happened to my wife' 93 Escort 1.9, and the mechanic at the Ford dealer told me that it happened to almost all of them. My brother bought a 2.0 SOHC 2006 Focus for his wife - even though I warned him, and he was assured that Ford had fixed that problem long ago. At exactly 71,000K - it happened to the Focus. This also happened to my 2008 2.3 Ranger, at 81,000......... Nothing like the old Ford - I have a 1985 F150 4 X 4, with a 300 CI straight six and a 4-speed standard. I did not have to do anything to the engine, Transmission, or differential other than to change fluids - until 285,000 miles in 2006, when I rebuilt the engine and refurbished the trans and differentials. I still drive that, and think that it may outlast me.

This is quite interesting. I have a; 1988 fox body, 1987 ranger, and X2 1996 rangers all have 60,000 to 210,000 thousand miles with zero valvetrain problems. That's really unfortunate for you.

@@calvinwright5040 not just me - and is funny I just mentioned this - the same day you replied to me - the Feds started an investigation into massive numbers of Bronco engines failing - due to valves falling out of the heads into the combustion chamber,. Hey Scotty! I know the Bronco has a full frame like a regular truck, but what are your thoughts on the front suspension and the REAR suspension? Why doesn't the Bronco have rear leaf springs like the Ford Ranger? What kind of rear suspension is holding the rear differential on the Bronco in place? I notice side thin bars leading from the body frame down to the differential but is that safe and will it last for years down the road? Are those bars for strenghthning the rear end in lieu of having leaf springs instead? I don't get it! I'd prefer leaf springs for strength and towing. Your Thoughts Scotty!

I have the Ranger and you can turn it off. But it is not bad for the engine. The stop/start function has been throughly tested by Ford for years. it doesn't put any excessive wear on the vehicle, it actually helps. Sitting in traffic idling is worse.
