I got one second hand for 10€, I modified the dipole for 1.7 GHz, I was able to receive GOES 16 from Portugal at 8.8º elevation

Damn I'm also at Portugal, but I don't want to disassemble the antenna bc I want to use it for S Band also

@@twitch_theoxidado9043 You can always make 1.7 dipole from scratch and make a new shell for it if you have a 3D printer.

Awesome! I just got mine a few days ago, going to point it at GOES-16 and try and get some photos of the eclipse on the earth.

The general rule is the holes have to be equal or less than one-tenth of the operating wavelength.

Good idea. I've few those antennas in my garage but I live in Poland so I don't have a signal from GOES satelites. Those feedhornes can be use for receive LTE signal on 2600MHz, it works very well out of the normal band :)

have you considered building a antenna rotor controller, with a light antenna that also has minimal wind loading it should be easier to use relatively low cost components to get a pretty stable tracking mechanism

Great video, I have 2 of these. Only problem I have with it is I get Sample dropouts. It does work for HRPT and GOES 16

You might want to try adjusting your sample rate, on the RTL-SDR ADC sometimes it can help reducing to 2.4 Msps

Are you using Windows? Windows is known to cause sample drops, if possible try using Linux.

@@albatross_v2 Yes I'm using Windows 10 Pro on my Laptop, I have great signal it's around 14 snr at times I do see the waterfall hope not sure if that's caused by the Cell tower that's nearby.

I wonder if a Lora Meshtastic is already being beamed to pirate 🏴‍☠️ satcom and would be interesting to listen to them for any Lora transmissions. Of course it’s 800 to 900 megahertz but I wonder if someone has used a translator to use it as a space repeater and then I wonder about the other satellites being used for Lora packets only because ham operators always think they have a license to “ experiment “

Did you manage to 3D print a useable mount ?

Replace the dipole with a yagi. Are you using a SAW filter + LNA?

Do you think that the WiFi grid antenna can access GOES Sat from London UK?
@dereksgc
@dereksgc 2 ай бұрын
Check with an app like look4sat or gpredict to see if you have line of sight, you need a clear view of the satellite with no obstructions. I don't think the 2.4 GHz grid antenna would work on its own, you would probably have to modify it so its properly tuned at 1.7 GHz

Have you tried using a helix feed for the circular polarized sattelite?

How would this work against Himawari8?
@dereksgc
@dereksgc 3 ай бұрын
as far as I know, neither of the Himawari satellites transmit anything in the 1.7 GHz band, it would most likely work very well for the GK-2A satellites and the Elektro-L satellites if you do get a better line of sight than me, the performance can be improved by rebuilding the dipole, something I'm currently making a video on
