I can't remember when I've been kept off the salt for almost 2 months but I finally got a chance to run the skinny water into the Chassahowitzka NWR here on the Florida Nature Coast!! Water temp was 73.4 in the deep creeks I fished in.....It was a great day flippin' the Mirrodine 808 BG No.17 and hookin' Redfish, Speckled Trout and Leapin' Ladies.....Had the place to myself.....Can't beat that with a stick.....Catch you on the flip!!

A lovely looking day to be out for some great fishing for your first time out in the backcountry in 2024. Beautiful sky reflections on the calm water. Thank you, my friend. 12:18

I'm glad you were able to get out and teach those pesky fish a lesson or two. They were getting way too uppity! We used to love those lady fish for marlin baits. We rigged them like a swimming mullet.

Awesome stuff congrats on the first fish of 2024! That backside was super shallow last weekend. Even though the outside had plenty. Thought I could get through a couple areas based on outside water height, but nope way to skinny.

Excellent work Wes. It has been good to see the temps get mild and the winds to lay down. Prior winters it seems have been more yo-yo in temps, but this year seems more consistently cool.
@WesLovelace
@WesLovelace 6 ай бұрын
Thanks LSJ!! Right creeks with just enough water to make the ride interesting.....LOL!! This skinny water with the hard and soft bottom tends to have higher temps but at 73.4 that's one degree higher than the springs up here!! The winter is certainly more challenging but it sure beats the summertime barbeque.....LOL!!

@@WesLovelace Definitely. I kayak fished Mason Creek for the first time yesterday. Beautiful place. Was a gorgeous day once the horror-movie-thick fog burned off. Much longer drive for me than Bayport Boat Park, but much better location for being on the kayak.
@WesLovelace
@WesLovelace 6 ай бұрын
@@longstrangejourney4776 I know it's farther to the north but the area is very secluded either going back to the east or out to the Gulf!! Another place you could consider with a Yak is the Salt River from the John Brown Ramp out in Ozello going north to Crystal River .....A lot of extremely low water but no people with power boats.....Just right for a Yak Attack!!😎
@longstrangejourney4776
@longstrangejourney4776 6 ай бұрын
@@WesLovelace John Brown is cool. I love Ozello and fish it often, especially early Sept for Snook. I have been wanting to spend a few trips exploring the Seven Cabbage area just north of the River this summer when tides are higher. That's like 18+ miles one way on the water from Bayport Ramp. Its only 7-8 miles from Mason so it I wanted to explore that ramp and estuary by kayak before I get the skiff back from restoration.
@WesLovelace
@WesLovelace 6 ай бұрын
@@longstrangejourney4776 7 Cabbage is closer from Mason Creek and accessible from a skiff at high tide either from the Chazz or Mason....I've been there a few times from Mason and from the River running from Bayport!!😎
