You butchered your own fate my man 😂. Never, EVER send a girl some rock/metal song, unless she’s into it! I shared some pop songs with her at first, she said “you’re weak af” and that’s how I came to know about her and her passion for metal music.

I met this band at a concert trying to get their name out there and gave it to my girl and she loves it. It’s a rock song, but the female that does the vocals kills it, it’s also like a duet! The song is You’ll Never Know by TheThoughtLife

Additionally, it should be noted that this album, the majority of White Pony, was an innovative turn for Chino. A great deal of the songs are written from perspectives that aren't his own; they aren't reflecting any personal narrative - only mood and emotion. The songs are based on mood, atmosphere, theme, motif, and stories. Chino really benefits from this angle, especially considering the dark subject matter. The songs that were based on his own experiences really complements the other cuts (especially the sentimental, sweet trip hop of 'Teenager' or coked-out manic sarcasm of 'Street Carp').

I love that the title just means 'killing yourself with electronics in a bathtub". This track is the song that cemented their transition from a nu metal contemporary to the experimental and atmospheric direction they've been on since. It's how they got that cute moniker, 'Radiohead of Metal'. It's also how they got their reputation of making music for horny goth girls. It's a beautiful track. And the music video is shot at a fan's house. A girl won a contest they held to have the video shot at their place.

Be quiet and drive was also a big departure from their early NuMetal sound... Almost like an announcement of what was about to come. Deftones really changed the game in metal as a whole, their 25 year old songs and albums still sound fresh, and bands are still trying to emulate their sound without much success. Legends.

This song and a lot of this album along with NIN - The Fragile were what a couple of us used to cruise around late at night in crispy air, and a little fog, in our big junker oldsmobile that refused to quit and a stereo worth more then the car. Up late during summer with no school. Just feeling the music and driving. Creating things to do. Driving to warehouse or open field raves and driving home completely exhausted in the bright morning sun. No cell phones. I miss the turn of the century. Great music came out of the 90's to still be heard. The dark industrial tone was all over the place. EDM mixed with rock and rap and everything in between. It was beginning to merge into a whole new kind of music. ...Great times.

I agree!! I had a 1999 Honda Civic and would Jam Deftones Around the Fur to a "small town Saturday Night". Just drinking Natty Lights out the trunk, sitting around smoking weed and watching stars, telling stories twice told but just trying to figure out what the heck to do because we wanted to do it all in one night but also chill and enjoy the moment as we all knew we would get older and this music would fade. NOT DEFTONES!!! Every album gets better and better!! I got to get a daily dose of Deftones!! NIN are super cool too, Tool as well. Chino, Trent, and Maynard all seem like dark individuals but they are actually very intelligent humans who have a knack for creating great music and lyric.😜

like you said, defones aren't just music, they're an experience. i'm so happy they're making a comeback. i was lucky enough to discover them when i was very young, back in early 00s. listening to them on a tape during humid summer nights, with friends, clear night sky, booze and many things teenagers shouldn't indulge in. deftones make you feel nostalgic, anxious and calm all at the same time. we just sat, listened and looked at the sky. we were young and felt young. never getting that specific moment back, 20+ years later, but the music still wakes up the same feelings.

Neat fact, the band The Devil Wears Prada have a song called Cancer which was written by the keyboardist. The song deals with finding out someone close to you died and the first thought you think of is: "I hope it was something like Cancer. Something that couldn't be altered or cured." Which is a fucked up thought but the thought digresses deeper and goes "Cancer is a disease that has no cure, no matter what you do, you can't stop it. But something like suicide is still curable. You can still save the person in that sense. So, I hope this person died of cancer instead of something like suicide. So that way I can assure myself that their death isn't my fault and that I didn't do anything to help out." Fucked up thought but such a beautiful track. So yeah.

What this band does is just so unique that no one has. Each song can have many different meanings to them. Pretty much telling us as fans what we think the song is about. It can be spot on or completely different and that’s still ok as long as it’s what makes sense to us. Deftones are legendary. Just go on a binge of reacting songs by them like you did with bad omens.

as a recently converted deftones fan, i can say for certain that the entire album White Pony is worth checking out if you plan on doing a full album reaction sometime in the future. i've listened to it so many times it almost feels wrong to listen to songs off of it in isolation because every song just flows into each other so naturally (with the exception of back to school, which wasn't even on the original version of the album anyway. best to skip that one).

You are right to me it is quintessential Deftones and yes they are called "Intrusive thoughts" like swerving your car in to traffic or something. They are a clash of styles. Guitarist Steph wants to be as heavy as he can be. Chino loves softer electronica and Depeche mode is a big influence. Abe has huge hip hop influence . If you can't tell they are one of my fav bands ever. You might want to check out Glassjaw. Also by todays lens very misogynistic lyrics but the band is soo hard and his vocals are both beautiful had hard AF to. I might recommend Ape Dos MIl or Pink Roses or Mu Empire. I'd be super curious to hear your takes.

I remember the exact moment I first heard this song in the year 2000 when I was 15. I had a clock radio next to my bed that I used as my alarm for school. Sometimes in the evenings when I was relaxing in my bed I would reach over and flick it on just to see what was on the local rock station. The night I flicked it on and this song was playing it was like I was transfixed and I couldn't even really move until it was over. At that time I had recently heard Change by Deftones for the first time and I was already made an instant fan. But this cemented it.

I am subscribed, sir. Have been. I've been moving away from reaction channels a bit, but I've been holding on to yours since it seems you hold on to a little bit of intellectual stimulation, so there's that.

5:00 Somehow one of the most disturbing lines in the song got cut out right here... "You breathed, and then you stopped. I breathed, then dried you off."

Fun fact - the acoustic version of this song was my go to sex song for a long time. It's just so chill, but has a super sexy vibe to it. The lyrics are super vague though. I've never even heard about the killer thing or got that impression from the song. Just sounds like the ramblings of a stoned man. And "tonight I feel like more" could mean a ton of things.

I dont think I ever paid close attention to the lyrics. I always just listened to the melody. It was another one of those songs that played often enough on KROQ, that I just got used to hearing it in rotation.

It’s nice! The kick rhythm on the intro of Needles and Pins is…well the 1st 4 words of the song mildly express how I feel.

You should contact your sleep token journey too and you'll notice some similarities between them and Deftones both very atmospheric and subject matter very similar too. Check out Nazareth and jaws (sleep token) oh yes and that sexy vibe .

Creepy, isn't it? This song made me fall in love with the Deftones - and got me a little obsessed with Chino Moreno, I have to admit. The whole album White Pony is timeless. Even two decades later it just never feels old and it still gives me goosebumps of sheer pleassure. Most songs on the record have this alluring, sexy, dangerous and creepy vibe to them.

It's eerie art. Same as anyone who likes horror movies and murder documentaries and whatnot. The pleasant and moving parts show into the eyes of a killer: Brutal, but to them, it's a symphony. You should react to Blackest Eyes by Porcupine Tree. It's the same vibe. It's seeing into the eyes of those whose do these things and turning it into a twisted artistic soundtrack.

Oooh, you should check out "Rocket Skates"!! (If you haven't already, I'm new to your channel and haven't dug through your catalogue of reaction videos yet.) This song is definitely chef's-kiss-Deftones! Gosh, I get what you're saying about the wierd cognitive dissonance which happens when listening to them. I was first introduced to the band back in 2012 or something, I was 16 years old and it was the favorite band of my boyfriend at the time. So I was like "alright let's check it out" and I lied down in bed to listen to Diamond Eyes (the album). Some 3 tracks into it, I fell asleep 😂😂😂 Can you imagine hearing Deftones for the first time as a 16 years old girl and *falling asleep?!* Wtf. Needless to say, they became an instant favorite, and have been ever since. Boyfriend didn't stick around, Deftones did. /joke
