I also got swept by Swagger Thunderus and Mirror Herb Sneasler today, in addition to a similar trick with side Eerie Impulse into Contrary Enamorus. I'd been getting used to fighting around Thunderus with a Gastrodon hidden in the back and getting opponents to forfeit when the game comes down to Thunderus vs Gatrodon - often both left at full health with a Yawn launched into the Thunderus for good measure, and these two sets that seemed to take off this season totally upended that strategy

Love Sneasler. Was using a poison touch poison barb set the first two weeks of Reg D for maximum RNG, put Sneasler on the shelf for a while and then just yesterday built my own Unburden set. So fun!

QOTD: my fav hisuian poke was Ursaluna but recently has changed to Sneasler. I'm running Tera flying acrobatics Sneasler with a persim berry next to wide lense swagger Grimsnarl. Wide lense allows Grimsnarl to land the self targeted swagger with much greater consistency, while persim berry cures the confusion; activating unburdened and doubling the power of acrobatics. This Sneasler can one shot pretty much anything and almost always goes first. Definitely one of my best leads so far and wins me a ton of games

QOTD: I think Basculegion is my favourite Hisuian Pokémon. I have seen salmon climb waterfalls and essentially turn into zombies at the end of their journey, and I think that's a really cool concept to make a Ghost Pokémon out of. And of course it's great in battle as well!

I've been using this team for the last few days on ranked and it's honestly INCREDIBLE! Sneasler is soooooo much fun and there is so many options for controlling the speed of the field between unburden, tailwind, trick room and psychic terrain to shut down priority. Absolutely loving it 😍 and like you said, it feels like people don't really know what to expect from Sneasler, especially with the Tera Rock Slide combo. And the Amoonguss! Actually had a surprising amount of late game KOs from what I have deservedly nicknamed 'the little Amoonguss that could' 🥲

I still cant believe I played against you Aaron. I’m the one in the last match up. I got absolutely demolished but it was fun. Turn 1 was a tough one fore sure. I was debating using the Tera on farigaraf, but I forgot about indeede😂. And flutter mane being so slow was an error on my end. I trained it outspeeds max speed urshifu but moest chi yu on the ladder are max speed so it loses to them. I immediately mad the change. Thnx for the kind words! Let’s battle again sometime

An interesting thing about Sneasler is that it's one of the few non-Fairy Pokémon that resists Dark+Fighting combo, so he's a good counter to Urshifu Dark. And if Toxicroak shares the same dual type, he's also immuned to water - so Urshifu-Water. But I don't know if he's in gen 9.

I was using swagger grafaiai + mirror herb hawlucha. Now I'm building a swagger tornadus + mirror herb sneasler. How things changed in one season lol, my poison and flying types swapped roles Edit: Typed that right before seeing the swagger set. I have not seen one at all and thought I was alone. I've been wanting to see that set used since they announced mirror herb in some way.

When it comes to EVs, i don't really get it, like i usually keep thinking "wouldn't be better to have more hp and then have the defence stats follow after?" i keep seeing low hp but high defense like for that basculegion spread, it has 28 hp and 188 defense (i'm saying this for most other mons, not really basculegion).

When you invest EVs in HP, you are improving your resistance on both physical AND special attacks. If you only invest in one defense stat, you will improve your matchup against either physical OR special attacks, but you will resist those much better than investing on HP. For instance: 252 Atk Sword of Ruin Chien-Pao Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Basculegion: 212-252 (93.3 - 111%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO 252 Atk Sword of Ruin Chien-Pao Sucker Punch vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Basculegion: 156-186 (79.5 - 94.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO Notice how the latter receives way less damage, at the cost of being more susceptible to special attacks. So, if you want to have a nice mixed bulk, it's OK to go for HP. But if you are interested in resisting one particular side of the spectrum (like Basculegion, who really wants to survive things like Sucker Punch), go for Def / SpDef. In fact, I am pretty sure that the EV spread in the video was made to always survive Chien-Pao's Sucker Punch using the minimal amount of EVs: 252 Atk Sword of Ruin Chien-Pao Sucker Punch vs. 28 HP / 188 Def Basculegion: 168-198 (84.4 - 99.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO And the final note, why does this seem to be general? I think it's because most priority attacks are physical (Fake Out, Extreme Speed, Sucker Punch, Aqua Jet...), so you can't be wrong getting extra cautious with those

I am a really new VGC player, started playing like a month ago, I feel like I'm getting better sometimes, like hitting predicts and such, but lately I have a really frustrating loose strike, like loosing 4 or 5 games a day, and I feel like I'm not getting better at all :( how do you do to manage the frustration of the loose strikes?, and idk if is weird to ask but, how do you think I can actually get better at competitive?

Sneasler was a disappointment when i used it with rillaboom. But indeedee might be a better teammate instead to block priority but most importantly, HH support. Dire claw just seems to miss out on many kills.

Hey Aaron! Great video as always. I just have a small comment on this series of videos. I think you feature a loooot of battles in which you end up winning. Of course, you feature sometimes battles that you lose as well but I've noticed that they they're often limited to one per video (and a lot of times, the video consists entirely of battles that you win). I've noticed that if the video contains a battle that you lost, it tends to be towards the end and I think that's unfortunate. I think it would be more interesting if it was distributed equally across the video. Maybe you're too good and you win almost every single battle, I wouldn't be too surprised haha. However, it's just like watching any competitive sport match, the most interesting thing about it all is not being so sure about who's gonna win, and I think that feeling is kind of lost here. Keep up the great work!

QOTD: My favorite Hisiuan Pokémon is easily Goodra, Steel/Dragon is a cool typing and it comes pre-packaged with a fantastic number of Buffs Goodra needed. It certainly helps that Goodra is my second favorite Pseudo-Legend right behind Dragonite.
