In the Fallout universe, the transistor/computer chip isn't invented until much much later, which is why all the tech has a retro, vacuum tube, look. Instead, they go all in with atomic energy. Also, the Cold War is against China rather than the Soviet Union. The big nuclear war takes place in October 2077.

Fantastic show. It is very violent and bloody, but it's totally worth it. Especially if you can find humor in the gore, which the show tries to do. That's one of the biggest strengths of the show and the games it's based on. That juxtaposition of comedy and violence.

The Last of Us games are a specific, linear story in the game so the adaptation, while they made some changes and adjustments for telling it thru tv, is pretty straightforward like how you approach adapting a play or book. The Fallout games each tell different stories. The world is a bit more of a sandbox to play in for each new piece of content. So they've included the world lore and factions and tropes of the games, but this story is original and, according to the creators, canon to the Fallout world. Totally different vibes and ways of storytelling, but I really enjoyed them both so I hope you have a good time with this one, too!

fallout is wild. really wild. Exaggerated violence, inappropriate dark humor and completely crazy people. crying and laughing are very close together here. And all of this is rounded off with what is probably the most beautiful soundtrack of all time. I've loved the franchise since Fallout 2 and I'm excited about the hype it's getting right now. From a storyteller's point of view, Fallout is perfect, you can tell any story. Wild West with zombies and aliens, criminal cases (Nick Valentin from Fallout 4 is simply the best detective of all time) romantic comedies or, rather, Terminator, everything is possible in Fallout. There is no reason to criticize strong women or anything woke about them, everything fits perfectly into this world.

The Ghoul is the dad from the beginning if u still weren't sure, and this show is based on any specific game rather just set in the same world as the fallout games..so the story is unique to the series unlike the last of us which was almost a scene for scene retelling of the game..

The rest of the episodes will definitely give you answers. As others said : the show is happening in the games' world/universe, but it's an original story with original characters. Those of us knowing the games just were as clueless as you on where the story might go, while enjoying many things we were familiar with. They definitely nailed the tone of the games. I've never played any _Fallout_ game before and this series still had me completely captivated right from the first moment. I haven't finished it yet so I'm still very much in your situation, lots of questions and begging for answers, but I'm loving the ride so far and I hope you'll continue watching for the rest of us as well!

Now you are young, to those of us growing up during The Cold War that intro is what we feared would happen- every day. But we lived our lives. When I teach my The History of The Cold War classes, I always start by showing them a five minute video of nuclear explosions with eerie music, to make your generation understand what it all was- and what you will have to get used to again with Putoloni's sabre-rattling (though he is too much of a coward to do it). During the Cold War, the USSR was planning to open the war by dropping 600+ merely on my little Denmark. The game is set in an alternative timeline, where the transistor was never invented, so everything used vacuum-tubes like early computers. And thus the timeline starts diverging from ours in the year after WW2, and progress is generally much slower. But there is also no Cuban Missile Crisis, Long Island, etc, and no reckoning with its past, so the US carries on in a sort of Truman-Eisenhower Superamerica with nuclear powered cars, etc. But in the 21st century fossil fuels and other resources starts running out, and The Resource Wars starts; where Europe, Africa and The Middle East is torn apart, and China invades Alaska to get the last remaining oil resource on the planet. And in 2077... Boom. And oh yea, the US turns authoritarian semi-Fascist, a bit like Starship Troopers. Anyway, think of the game and series as set in a sort of retro-futuriatic post apocalypse, IE a future as imagined in the fifties, but then add a nuclear exchange of superpowers. In the games you find all those tragic and dark stories as you explore the Wasteland, the series show them, but both do a very good job of what good SciFi should; holding up a dark mirror to humanity- and with Fallout it is really dark.

The show has taken story elements from pretty much all the games (though the overarching story of her searching for her dad is straight out of Fallout 3.) This is an adaptation done very well. Surprising considering what Amazon did to Lord of the Rings.

fallout 3...fallout new vegas and fallout 4 all in one... its set 8-10 years after fallout 4...that airship shown has a sister ship in the eastern seaboard named the airship fortress Predwyn. but it originally came from the west on scouting mission to the east but decided to stay in the commonwealth and started a war with the highly advanced organization the institute... if you play as the vault 111 sole survivor and finished the game as a brotherhood soldier.. You will be given the rank of Sentinel the Second in command in the brotherhood ranks. the west elder mentioned the high clerics and elder of the commonwealth...he refers to elder Maxson and The Sentinel sole survivor of vault 111... So as Lucy traverse the wasteland.. there's the sole survivor in Boston that is both the general of the minutemen (peoples army of the commonwealth) and the sentinel of the brotherhood of steel eastern chapter.

The show does a great job introducing the game's lore, and some of the shennanigans. I have played Fallout 4 and know some of the lore. As for the not liking blood and gore. Yeah about that...

Fallout is goofy drama known for its darkly satirical setting. Dont worry about the blood - no spoilers but i will say the worst gore is in the first couple of episodes. This is its own original story set in the Fallout universe, about nine years after the events of the last game (FO4) which was centered on Boston.

One thing about Fallout Lore are the numbered vaults and their locations. Every "entry" in the Fallout Series, the named locations are very much "important" to the fans lol. Fallouts 1, 2 and the Show are closely based in the LA Greater Area, depending on location. Fallout 3 is in the Washington DC Area. New Vegas is Las Vegas and surrounding area (Eastern California and Nevada). Fallout 4 is Boston and surrounding Massachusetts Commonwealth (some US States call themselves Commonwealths), and Fallout 76 is in Appalachia, West Virginia.

This may be sort of gross, but the gore in this series is designed to be kind of funny. I know, I know, gore isn't funny. But, there is a dark sense of humor in the foundation of these stories. It'll start to get funny soon, I promise. Technically, you already laughed a couple times immediately after something gory happened, just lean into it. :P
