With electric cars if the 12v battery is going bad all sorts of things like this will happen
@Rob24 жыл бұрын
@@McFlysGarage And not only with electric cars! I had problems like that long ago with my Peugeot 206 petrol car and I did not panic nor did I go to the garage saying "well my car's computer has gone completely funky please troubleshoot that!". Because I know that car garages tend to swap components until they happen to hit the culprit, then charge the customer for everything they have replaced (including all those things that weren't the cause after all). So I diagnosed it myself using plain reasoning and a multimeter. Then I went to the garage stating that my battery has gone bad, mentioning only some symptoms that go with that (difficulty to start when it is freezing). They replaced it and tadaaaaa, all mysterious funky behavior that they did not even know about was fixed.

A typical car battery is built for extreme current while starting (Cold Cranking Amps). An electric car doesn't need that so a deep cycle battery is a better choice.

Yeah, I really have to wonder why they didn't use one in the first place. Or maybe they did, and the battery it came with was the cheap replacement the previous owner put in.
@mazzalnx4 жыл бұрын
This had me actually wondering. How exactly did they "test" this deep cycle battery? Most (99.9%) auto parts stores and shops I know simply use a cheap high-current load on the typical car batteries to simulate cranking, and measure the voltage drop, if it's charged and drops way too much then it's considered "bad". Doing the same test to a deep cycle battery sounds fairly stupid and dangerous, since they are not at all built for high-current loads and may actually get damaged. But after checking the lead/acid 12Volt battery (under the passenger floor board) I discovered it had a shorted cell and would run down the traction battery down trying to recharge it back to 14vdc.
