Putting the issues with not picking up trash, not welcoming passengers.... the safety issues on Air Algeria are deeply concerning. When airline crew are so lax when it comes to securing doors, checking seatbelts and making sure seats are in the upright position, it shows a general lack of care. Safety checks should not be optional on a "bad day". What else are they careless about? Engine maintenance? General safety checks of the plane? Kinda scary.

Oh wow the memories. I worked the desk for Air Algérie in Montréal when I was a student. The airline was infamous among airport workers for still using Mainframe terminals for their booking system (as a Comp sci student, and tech history fan, it appealed to me 😅) Anyway: almost every passenger would ask me if we had the shitty plane with no onboard entertainment, or the "nice" one that day. For people wondering... That was around 2015.

Crew members that serve the passengers are the reason why aviation is the safest mode of transport. If they aren't there, eventually there will be situations where some passenger is standing when the plane hits the ground, possibly in the lavatory etc. That can really kill someone, so it's not a minor violation of safety. Especially concerning when it's dark outside and people don't know when the plane will hit the ground. I've seen videos where there were people sleeping on the economy row without seatbelts on, no crew, and the plane just started to land. I think we need to speak up against these kinds of practices. Poor customer service on the other hand is something that won't physically harm anyone.

Algeria seems to be the country of choice for people who don't like to interact with other people. The airport lounge gave me flashbacks from the movie "Langoliers". 😂 That Air Tahiti Nui plane would be something to try out, wouldn't it? 😊

I hate flying. It’s not that I’m afraid of flying, it’s the actual process of flying. Rushing around, people everywhere, security, boarding, all the stupid slow people, sitting in a cramped seat for hours doing really nothing. If I can drive…..I will. So this dude is an absolute champ. He does it for basically fun, but to also gives us a lot of insight on all of it. Couldn’t do it. Glad he does it for us.

I'm Algerian myself and thank you for exposing the state of the airline to the world. However my experience tells me the situation is more variable that you think, you can get absolutely filthy planes and poor service on one trip (especially these landing in Algiers) and clear planes and great service on another trip (especially for these taking off from Algiers). The airline is well known for bad management, and while some efforts seems to be made (2 A350 and 5 A330neo are on order) way more should be done. May the airline's upper management see this video.

Hi Noel, In Canada, passengers are randomly selected for a primary bag inspection before the x-ray (usually they just swab your belongings and test it for illegal substances). What happened there is that you were one of the “randomly” selected passengers for that inspection. During the x-ray part of the process your bag may be selected again for inspection due to something that was observed through the x-ray (I don’t know if that was the case as you don’t show that part of the process in your video).

I’m pretty sure what happened at Montreal Airport security is that you went into the Business Class/Visa Infinite Privilege line and instead of letting you go straight to security, the CATSA employee decided to randomly select you for an additional check. The same thing can happen in the other section (Economy) but because of the higher passenger volumes, it’s obvious it’s a “random selection”. A pre-check before security is not standard for every passenger at Canadian airports.

As an experienced aircraft mechanic, I can tell you that getting onto an airplane with indications that nobody really cares is paramount to playing Russian roulette. You are at the mercy of numerous people who literally have your life in their hands. When something happens to that aircraft due to somebody not doing their job, there is NOTHING you can do, but ride it to the ground. A passenger boarding the Hawaiian jet that lost it's top in flight, noticed several rivets missing before she boarded, but got on anyway. Go figure!

In October of last year, I flew from Heathrow to Algiers and then Algiers to Abidjan, and I am pretty sure the crew were smoking in the toilets during the second leg of my travel. I can't confirm this, but it definitely smelled of cigarettes during the flight. Honestly, it wouldn't even surprise me considering that many police officers were smoking inside in Algiers airport... will never fly with them again! Didn't feel safe at all, especially considering the absolute state of the planes (dirty, broken mirrors in the toilet, broken armrests, etc.)

If you were ignored most of that flight in business class, I wonder how they treated the people in economy. Also, very expensive for all that you should get and don't get.
