Back in May, I spent a week in Japan with a couple friends after flying there on WestJet's inaugural flight from Calgary.
That wasn't the only interesting flight we took on that trip though, and after spending a day in Tokyo, we hopped on board a Japan Airlines 767 to Hiroshima. Let's see what a Japanese domestic flight is like!

Interesting fact: some of JAL and ANA's 767s were delivered AFTER their first 787s, with the last of the 767s having been delivered in 2013!

The rest of the world really needs to take a look and model themselves after the Japanese efficiency and how to get things right. I absolutely love Japan, the Japanese people, the Japanese food, and most of all the courtesy that is always extended when in that country. Japan? Please teach the rest of the world so many of the social graces that you are so good at.

Hi Alex, the reason why additional 767's were ordered by both JL and NH around 2009 was because of continued delays of the 787 program. The 767's were provided by Boeing at substantial discounts to both JL and NH in order to avoid cancellations of orders from both airlines who were major players in the 787's early development phase. Your experience in Japan definitely was amazing - loved how they still have observation decks at the airports. There is a lot that aiports around the world could learn from the Japanese efficiencies. I was amazed by how while you were being pushed back that another jet was already docking in the gate you were parked in.

I flew JAL domestic 767 from Okinawa to Narita back in 1992, which was about a 3 hour flight. I remember it being a very enjoyable, comfortable experience. Your view of Mt. Fuji at sunset was off the charts good! What a gorgeous takeoff. The whole world could learn some things from Japan.

A 3 hour domestic flight in Japan on a B767? I have been lied to by western media. Japan is not a small country as they say. 😮 I live in a country of about 190million people and the longest flight, from A to B is just 1hr 10mins on a B737. 😂

That's a nice treat. The cabin looks sharp for a 767. On another note, perhaps the recent orders for the 767's had something to do with early issues that grounded the 787's; ANA being the launch customer.

Great video Alex. Have not taken a Japanese domestic flight yet, but do have plans. We’ve taken plenty of flights into and out of Haneda T3 and for travel to SouthEast Asia, you ALWAYS want a seat on the left hand side of the plane. We flew almost directly over Fuji and it was awe-inspiring. I understand the Japanese devotion to the mountain, because seeing it invokes almost a spiritual response in me and that’s something I haven’t experienced over any other mountain. As for the plane, despite advancements in the 777 and 787, as well as the A350, the 767 and the A330 remain my favorite planes to fly in cattle class with the 2-3-2 configuration. Just my wife and I without having to share a third seat is great.

I just flew on JAL’s domestic First Class last week on one of their 787s on the HND-ITM route and it was nothing short of incredible. The seat, service, and food was amazing for a flight less than an hour. After landing they even gave me a gift of a small JAL A350 model with a personal note. I think it was the best flight of my life! The Japanese airlines are most definitely some of the best in the world.

I was supposed to fly on an ANA 767 domestically from Kagoshima to Tokyo, but thanks to weather delays, and the fact that I had a connecting flight to YYZ, they ended up putting me on Solaseed Air. While it was your typical 737-800, it did seem to have a 32 inch seat pitch, so it definitely wasn't uncomfortable compared to a lot of others.

It's a shame the 767s of the world are being retired. They're much less efficient than 787s, but the 2-4-2 layout in economy is much more comfortable than the (packed!) 3-3-3 layout normally found on the Dreamliner.

Please, please keep the Japan content coming, it’s so refreshing to see something different on the channel! I just came back from Japan, was lucky enough to fly on ANA’s 777-300 from Tokyo to Fukuoka. That bird had 514 seats on it and my flight was almost full, never seen so many people on a plane before. Japanese airports are my favourite for spotting, given their large observation decks, the weather is mostly good if not great, so too is the variety of the traffic you’ll see. You get some pretty good backdrops as well. I love that country to no end and I can’t wait to go back again this December!

Nice and you could have simply done Star Alliance AC🇨🇦/ANA🇯🇵 Calgary to Hiroshima via Haneda & Vancouver. JL is Oneworld Alliance like the Canadian Airlines. On the opposite side of British Columbia🇨🇦 Washington state border🇺🇲 JL🇯🇵 Oneworld Alliance partner AS is based in Seattle Tacoma Airport meaning you can do Oneworld Alliance YYG-SEA-HND-HIJ. In HND Terminal 3 be aware that NH🇯🇵 codeshares with PR towards MNL🇵🇭. You could have also done a side trip to MNL on NH and then back to Calgary on PR116/117 MNL-YVR and then domestic YVR-YYC. Some of the wide-body domestic flights will actually have a crew change in HND for US and Canada meaning NH115 plane might have started in Hiroshima and crew change in HND for YVR. B767-300/ER has an Airbus competition the A330-200 because Airbus knew that the A330-300 will lose sales to B767-300/ER that's why they came up with A330-200. If you want one of those planes you might as well cross Sea of Japan into neighbouring South Korea for Korean Air A330-200. In Canada Air Transat A330-200s

37 million people in the _Greater Tokyo Area_ is not 37 million people in Tokyo. It's just the name for the area (首都圏 shutoken "capital area" in Japanese which doesn't include the word Tokyo at all). The Quebec City-Windsor Corridor is home to 19 million people, about half of Canada's population. If we called this the "Greater Toronto Area", we wouldn't say that half of Canada lives in Toronto.
@lars7935
@lars7935 6 ай бұрын
The difference is the size though. The Quebec City-Windsor corridor is 230.000km2 (according to Wikipedia) while the Capital Area in Japan is about 14.000 km2. So it's about twice the population in 1/16th the area. The quebec windsor corridor spans over 1.100km across. A comparible megapolis is the Taiheiyō Belt stretching from Tokyo all the way to Fukuoka. With a comparable length and just arounf 80 million people. The Greater Tokyo Area may not be an officially defined area but it's by far the most fitting english language name for the Kanto metropolitan area. And it meets most definitions of metropolitan area belonging to Tokyo. Yes I am aware that Tokyo is not officially a city but for sake of the metropolitan definition the 23 wards can be treated as one city. Even the outer most areas of the Tokyo metropolois are barely a 2 hour train ride away from one of the large central Tokyo stations. Practically speaking the Tokyo metropolitan area is oriented around Tokyo with a near continuous urban area only thinning out at the edges. While larger corridors like the Quebec City-Windsor Corridor are a collection of metropolitan areas barely connected in their urban fabric.
