As an autism MomA and prior therapist with special needs I find the dog is the best when it comes to runners they are trained to stop them.they pair with your child and usually a larger breed because of runners but are great!!!

Have you looked into ABA therapy for kids with elopement? My niece did the same thing and once she did the therapy and they taught her to not run away. It was a life saver for the whole family.

I can not imagine, as my son does not have autism and is overly cautious when he was young. But you have a heart of steel to do what you did in this video. I was about to have a heart attack for you!!! So glad everything is ok, and you at least learned from your painful adventure.

I was literally having anxiety watching this video. You have some huge trust to not be right next to him while he's at the edge of a hill and that's amazing. It's also so amazing how Grayson seemed to not looked exhausted after all of that. It's super duper smart of you to follow him to see where he would go especially after you hearing that they love routine. Again, so so glad he's ok. ❤

I know it would be expensive, but have you thought of gating in your front yard and driveway? Would give you a second layer of protection if he got out the front door.

Also, he is intrigued with the climbing, so you want to buy him equipment and toys that he would have to climb. It will help satisfy his urge to walk those heels..

He really loved exploring, I'm surprised how easily he walks up that high and honestly kind of dangerous looking hill, what a kid. For sure looks like he knows where he's going, with no fear too. Wonder what fascinated him with that place and all those horrible trees, how does he get through all that.

Maybe a play area in the backyard that includes the same kind of enrichment as the hike, I know you take them to parks but thats what he is looking for and needs that activity every day and if you are busy or not feeling well maybe a helpful person can take him. You will figure it out because you are a great mom and keep trying to.

I’m new to your channel, but I’m an autism mom too. My daughter had a lot of safety/eloping issues. She started ABA therapy last October and it has helped tremendously. I know it’s not for everyone, but in didn’t know if y’all had ever tried. Hope you find some way for him to learn safety 🙏🏻❤️

When I moved to a neighborhood with a huge rock formation, my son climbed it with both my mom and me. He was older and very thoughtful about my mom being in her older years. Grayson will learn and look out for you one day sweet Tara.

Autism does not mean you give your child free range. Not talking about your purpose in doing this. You feel really bad about telling him the direction to go in?? Really? Quit the words. Physically set boundaries. If you are not capable, get help.

I was so scared when I was seeing your video following Grayson, but you were determined to see what your child was doing. Be careful, maybe it will be a good idea to place motion alarms that makes a sound when one of your kids try to get out of your home. I taught autistic children. Having a personal tutor to always be with him will help best.
