I remember picking this up for my 360 and loving every minute of it honestly. The gun and character customization is what really intrigued me and how you could tackle the optional objectives to give your team leverage to win the match. I really need to play this again.

The options for customization were probably the best part of the game, along with the artstyle. You can really make your security guy look like a tech-wear alien and your terrorist like a Mad Max psycho. Weapons of the same kind work similarly to one another, which means you can pick them based on their looks and tweek them with attachments afterwards if you don't like their performance. The parkour and teamplay, the biggest selling points for the game, were not well implemented at all. The poor performance and base gameplay is definitely the worst part about the game, which is the first thing they should have gotten right (and this is true for any game ever made).

I remember as a kid really wanting this game for some reason, I went to Gamestop and asked for it and the guy working there strongly suggested I don't buy it. Instead I ended up getting the Mass Effect trilogy, he offered to toss in the collectors edition case for 3 for free (though he warned me it had issues holding the disc). He was a cool dude.

I'm sure one of the reasons it died was because it was overhyped. The expectations with what the developers were saying made everyone think it was going to be a Mirrors Edge, Call of Duty mix on steroids. It ended up being something really... Different. The freerunning aspect they put all the money on wasn't as big as they were toting. Almost every gun had copy and paste stats and the movement wasn't that great. On top of that most of the maps didn't feel like they were designed with the freerunning body type in mind. They felt like standard fps maps that catered to casual fps gameplay. I'm not gonna lie tho, the game was fun, I loved the customization with body types and character perks. The story was alright and left off on a cliff hanger which really bugged me. I always picked the security forces as my main faction. Just a random rant, I'm bored.

If you look at the older builds of this game, it was more story centric, k feel like somewhere in development they completely changed vision and as a result it was overhyped. I loved this game and enjoyed the setting. Wish wed get more

I remember playing this years ago on my ps3. I actually enjoyed it and the idea of the parkour and body types for access to certain weapons. Iirc, the frames werent bad at all on ps3

I played on 360 and it ran great. Think this is more of a bad pc port problem. The body types, the heavier movement, the parkour, and the longer time to kill were all upsides to me.

@@zackbryans4982 I suspect if they just disabled the steam overlay all there issues would go away. It has been years since I have played but I didn't have the issues present in this video, and I have experienced similar issues with older games (also DOOM Eternal at launch, having steam overlay enabled massively impacted the fps on some systems including mine, we are talking 150+ fps without, and with it on drops below 60).

Man this makes me nostalgic. I played Brink religiously back when it came out, I still love it´s art-style and gameplay. It´s such a shame though that the story is pretty much non-existant, because the setting offers so much potential.

I actually love and still love brink to this day! This game did get rushed out by Bethesda to release next to the other huge games and that was a major mistake but the lore behind the ark is very interesting and the classes and objective based gameplay is something I really enjoyed. I hope we get a Brink 2 someday

This game has and always will hold a special place in my heart. I remember how different the trailer was and how hyped up it got me. The game was great especially the weapon progression cause all you had to do were challenges. Hardcore parkour was the best

@@snazzyfeathers That's literally the only thing that stopped me from playing it more. The game was a ton of fun if you could get past the AI. Eventually they'd drain you of all remaining will to play the game though.

I unironically loved this game back in the dead, it was sorta dead even when it first came out, but playing as a fast skinny boi flying around jumping off of stuff was a blast

I absolutely loved playing Brink as a teen, ran smooth on the PS3 and had tonnes of people online. I'd always play as a light and the motion was mostly fluid and felt as close as an FPS did to mirrors edge did at the time. The gameplay, art style and customisation put this game in a special place for me

Ah, the nostalgia! Same studio later made another online shooter called "Dirty Bomb" on Steam. It has some of Brink's mechanics, but also completely different characters and abilities. They are not updating it anymore, but it still works i'm pretty sure. Was a lot of fun for me, my 3d most hours on Steam are in Dirty Bomb

I understand you’re a content creator, Kevduit, so you gotta play up the shortcomings. But, in all honesty, this game was really fun and sticks out a lot in my memory. Also I’m pretty sure I remember it releasing in the summer and battlefield didn’t come out till the holidays in 2011

Everytime wall running comes into play I tell everyone "so like brink?" And they all respond "like what? More like titanfall"...... i actually liked the style and character creation too bad it was too much like titanfall with NPCs as players and barely any content but the story was actually kinda decently written and very interesting.

@@Assassin5671000 titan fall didn't* came first thus why i hate the comparison and mirros edge was nothing like this on paper but the simple description of (first person parkour) fits. It was a cops v civil terrorist who taught they was doing the right thing with a weird style and not a lot of focus on the parkour. It was the first call of duty like first person with. Bit of parkour. mirrors edge was a story focused first person parkour game not a lot of focus on shooting the bad guys in the first game but you could. After this came games like titanfall n black ops 2

@@fenchellforelle I rewatched reviews and im downloading my self to confirm this but is it tho? I never had any of those problems in combat. In fact it always felt responsive playing the freight cargo map wall running through the crates taking out snipers. The parkour wasn't the greatest but it still responded and everyone i see dont complain about it at all nor the combat. The secondary objectives are the only problems but that is because it was an arena type game you complete the objective then move on to the next mission. they also stole the retreat aspect too, if you loose you have to retreat. I can confirm most of what you said wasn't a problem, the real problems are TEXTURES/SECONDARY OBJ/EXPLOSIONS/ NO SCOREBOARD/ SOLO FOCUSED TO UNLOCK STUFF/ NO CHARISMA OUT OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS and BARELY ANY CONTENT. The Dlc never came to save it. It was a 5-6/10 from style and basics alone the rest of the points are taken from the real problems which if you research, it was rushed out it wasn't even complete

Brink was such a cool idea. Especially the fully auto point to point parkour system they had planned, where you'd aim at a ledge, hold a button, and the game would just freerun you there, was insane.

I remember being a kid and watching the trailers come out for it before it released. Watching gameplay demos and I was in total awe. I didn’t get a chance to play it until years later and it was pretty good, was really bummed there were no players. Not nearly as bad as the Haze release for PS3

It really just needed some real fine tuning. The time to kill and really making each "class" unique. iirc, there was light, medium, and heavy then different operator types to choose from. That's a lot to balance.

I remember waiting for this game to be released for over 3 years, and when it finally came out level of fear disgust and disappointment at actually experiencing it was something I have never experienced in my life ever again. The ratio of anticipation to disappointment was phenomenal

pretty much the same for me, day one got some achievements, played about 5 days and just grew more and more frustrated as I went game woulda been better as a coop PVE game, defend the ark or assault security hard points?? like ME3 just go up against AI coulda been fun that way but I think the MP aspect was the wrong move or hell just a game like freedom fighters woulda been cool, heavy story play the resistance trying to overthrow the elites?? eh

for me it was the sudden realization bethsda were douche canoes. right after i struggled to defend the rather bland fallout 4 only for them to raise the praise of the season pass right before cutting the dlc cycle short TWO story dlc early after previously spamming overly expensive worshop packs then creation club aka paid mods microtransaction store. the whiplash from adoring a company to desping it all within a couple months never experinced it again.

Yep brink was the game that made me realize how utterly destroyed the gaming industry was (Or at least had the potential to become.) Since then I have never boarded a hype train or pre-ordered a game in fear that the disappointment would be this bad. I paid full price for brink and played for maybe 15 minutes before realizing how I had just wasted my money on a terrible game. This was Bethesda and TF2 and CS:Go were already out so I think most people expected at the very least a decent competitive FPS multiplayer game and just got utter rushed trash.

I remember this buggy thing, the last mission of the campaign expected you to capture a point at almost enemy spawn, but the braindead ally ai never moved from the previous point, that was frustrsting as hell

I will never forget brink. 12yr old me and my friends were so hype for this only to be disappointed after we all bought it day one. They got us.

Have you played dirty bomb? I'm pretty sure it's made by the same guys and in my opinion it plays like what brink should have been It's free also

It's interesting to see some of the interesting things Brink had, like the character customization and movement around the map being solid. It is sad seeing it having muck on it hurting it.

Dude I was hyped for this game, the trailer was solid the costumes were cool and the dynamic movement had me excited. Then the repeating the maps with people or bots i didn’t know was pretty frustrating.

I remember when I was like 10 years old that this came out and I thought it was the coolest thing ever and I tried to play campaign on xbox 360 and I just got demolished by the bots like 50 times and gave up. I really don't remember it being this atrocious.

Aside from the really cool visual style, they did actually code the bots to act like real players, including tea-bagging. It's pretty cool.

It wasn't a fantastic game, but it still had a little bit of charm. Featherweight for the parkor anyway though, the other two weight classes are awful
