As a sailor, I can confirm the reality is its one of the most challenging jobs there is with respect to the toll it takes on you physically, mentally and with respect to family. But it's an essential job without which the entire world would shut down in a matter of few days. Proud to have sailed almost 10 years now. But even more proud of my parents, my wife and my kid who have had to deal with a lot more while I have been away.

Engineers can have many shore jobs like Supdt as many females when they become CE or Master look for land based jobs. Sacrifice is there as tax free money and no expenses on board, but one must be really interested in working on board, then only one will enjoy this career !! Free world trips / opportunities to make friends and families at every port, if one is smart and ready to spend money like a real sailor with sweet heart at every port. Once come on home land every sign off leading to honeymoon with spouse. Enjoy life and chill 👍👌

@@sureshsantimaritimeservice9594i agree with all points above but Sadly(not reallyXD ) not everyone is smart and ready to spend money at every other person they meet, and if that makes them not a "real" sailor then, I'm totally fine with my dad not being one of the "real" sailors 😂😂

My dad has the same experience, that, when he started his career as a sea farer in 1975, on his first ship namely Talamba (P&O), the engine caught fire in the Atlantic ocean. By the grace of God all were saved along the ship. They were somewhere close to French territory hence a team from France came to rescue with another ship sailing in nearby waters but they succeeded in repairing their own ship. ☺️

Since early 60s my uncle was a sailor in Scindia companies ship there were two cruise ships belonged to Scindia shipping co. Sabarmati and Sarswati in Western coast sea now Lakshadweep sea sailing Bombay Mangalore via Goa and Malpe. I remember my childhood journey sailing twice! I enjoyed watching beautiful sea. Unfortunately during late 60s one of the ship was wrecked by monsoon storm since the company stopped the operation. Thanks for your valuable information on shipping it's interesting as well critical and fearsome at the rough cyclonic storms that sailors encounter. We had a bad experience during 70s the vessel my uncle was sailing in Bay of Bengal capsized and sank due to storm 9 crew survived while 19 died. It was a small life boat and they waited 3 nights for the rescue. All those rescued were in critical state as they had lots of salt water intake due to storm. My uncle told me they only gaze stars in the night and watched the distant horizon in the ocean in the hope of seaing land.

My father works in the merchant Navy. I have travelled with him a couple of times on ships and it's a really breathtaking experience, I would say better than cruise ships. But on the flip side the hardships he has to go through, the responsibilities he has to take as the captain, and the frequent near misses with disasters really gets me and my mother worried. I literally cry whenever my father is scolded by the company officials. Merchant Navy officers are really the unsung heroes.

Beautiful one.. personally i liked the way you have portrayed in this video what a Sea-farer has to go through sailing across the oceans myself hailing from a Merchant Navy family my father being rhe Captain of the cargo ship. I remember few of the instances from my childhood memories when i remember facing swelling, Pitching & Rolling as mentioned in this video. It was terrifying indeed ( those days it was allowed to carry the Family of the Captain on board). Finally, i completely agree with the last words spoken out that a Sea-farer life is not that easy as it seems! Yes you have good money but it comes at a certain cost for sure!!

Being an ex Chief Engineer at sea for a long time, my experience towords my own ordinary people that they have least knowledge about our profession. Only one thing they know that we earn heavy salary. Neither they want to know our negetive side, nor they want to know what is a Sea life. In the fag end of my life, I feel pity that how much ignorent they can be. But I have my wonderful experiences with common man in Englad and any Europion countries. They are surprisingly having lots of knowledge about our life. It took weeks to make our own citizen know what is pot and what is starboard

Well this is a regular thing out at sea sailors face. The biggest role is planning your passage in due consideration to all weather info. However sometimes the track of Storm suddenly changes. The weather at south of south africa is always bad. Be brave be safe.

Jo log jaan hatheli pe le ke chalte hain apni parvah kiye bagaair unko salaam. Jab tak jindagi hai tab tak risk hai pata nahi kal kya hoga. Nature, universe, God usse upar kuch nahi hai. when you encounter situations like these then you understand hum nature ke saamne kitne majboor hain. Jitna bada kaam utni hi responsibility aur tough training. I know because all warriors do not fight in the battlefield ❤❤❤

True sailors with positive spirit enjoy rough seas with challenges and smooth seas never made a smart sailor. Now seaman becoming more like a businessman and no more seamanship spirit only focus on money. On the shore Doctors and Now days IT Engineers make more money then sailors and enjoy their time with their wife and family. Choice is purely based on ones real interest. You are just a Junior officer as 3O long way to go and learn lot of things till you are master of the vessel. Normally you people as seaman / crew always stay away from the social problems on the land !! happily on board ship away from human beings as a sea men. Wish you all on board always safe and pleasant voyagers ahead boy. Take care 😀👍👌😍😍
