I Found A Cannon! (...axle...again)

Please join me as I metal detect this site I found a few weeks ago. I do a thorough search this time and find some more Civil War relics and a button. I also decide to carry out the cannon axle and hope to go back for the wheel soon. BTW, it is called a "cannon axle" because it looks like a baby cannon. It would go to a fam wagon and not a cannon. I get quite a few "tips" about cannons in rivers and they are usually just these. Audio is a little shaky in this one too...

That type of bit is a curb bit for horses ... a solid piece with a jump in the middle ... not jointed like a snaffle!

There was a huge Union Camp close to where I live. The area was by several re-doubts. From where their Camp was, they must have set up targets across the river on to a Hugh field. A friend of mine said he found bullets in the ground by the pocket full!

The axle and that "wheel" are from two different eras.... That axle was typical of a wooden hub and spoke style wheel banded with iron rings, while the other would have been of a much smaller iron axle type.

Chig, you never load a muzzleloader by pushing on the ram rod with the palm of your hand. You use a finger(s) or palm under the pinky finger. If it is hot it may discharge sending tge ram rod through your hand. That way you can also load with tge bayonet on. Did this thousands of times with out a problem.

Man I tell at, if there is ever a man to step in crap and come out smellin like roses its you sir. I've tried to get into metal detecting and have been discourage, there's SSSSOOOOO much garbage where I go it's extremely difficult to come out a winner at all. Great job!

Sweet finds today Chigg, this was super cool. Just made me nervous when you said, "I'm going to put you under." Sounded way too much like my surgeon. ...ha ha ha... I think, "Hold your breath", is a little more doable. ...ha ha ha... As for the sound, if it failed completely I would take a class on how to read lips, because I wouldn't miss you being up the creek for the world. LOL I don't think all guns carried in the Civil War had bayonets. I own a 1856 Over & Under Tennessee Long Rifle, made by my hubbies 2nd grt. grandpa. He carried it during the Civil War as a Southern Confederate. It never had a bayonet.

The wheel and axle ain't a match, that's a considerably larger axle than the wheel can accept. There's this amazing fella that does old school cool restorations and rebuilds (or scratch builds) of old wagons, canon mounts, so on. EngelsCoachShop is the channel name. Maybe shoot him an email so he can give in some insights on that axle, he know his is stuff.

Hey Mr. Chubb... You have found so many bullets. Have you counted and categorized them according to Calibre I and type of weapon? I think that would be very interesting. I have heard that some soldiers bought Henry rifles using their own money. Is that true, and how did they re-supply with cartridge's? Really like your channel. So much was not taught in school. (Even worse now). Keep it coming. History should never be forgotten.

At 6:14, do ya see it? Well, do ya? Bottom just right of center, probably just a rock, but looks flat and round standing on edge. Probably would have found it with the pin pointer if it were a coin/button, but you never know...

Hi there. I bet the cannon must be buried close to that place. You will need a more powerful machine so that it’ll pick it up. I saw you using a CTX once, that will pick it up at 1.2 meters easily, maybe even if it’s deeper than that but you’ll need to clear the area of all signals first. Good luck!

Hey Chig, I happened to catch one of you yak vids and you have lit a fire in me, I live here on the southern outer banks of NC and I have a buddy that love to mud dive as much as I do so we are back at the detecting and mud diving. I have never thought about river diving, we have a few rivers inland a few hrs drive from the coast. I also have some inlaws the live in the great state of Va. in the Yorktown area and also to the west around Richmond area, I will be in Goochland near the James river. I hope to do some river diving/mudlarking detecting or bottle hunting while I am there, wish me luck!!!! Keep up the good work I am so envious I wish I could play in the mud and make money.LOL

Couldn't remember what type of gopro you had, but I guess they're having audio issues with the gopro 5 through 7. A few youtubers loaded up some videos of a fix or two on how to adjust it.

I found a bayonet that had remnants of a bees wax candle in the hub. We believe it was used by a soldier while incamped as a light within his tent. Was neet to imagine thethings that was going threw his mind while using it.

It's a amazing how you can read the ground around you, If i could learn some of them skills, I would be a-lot better at Metal Detecting. Gona have to keep watching you If i want to learn more. And That's the best part of learning form the CHIGG.
