My mother died when I was in high school back in the late 70s. Clearly I will not be going couponing with her. Still, it was heartwarming to see Jenny and Mama Hoyos sharing time together. I came for social media advice and stayed for the family vignette.

My local grocery store has a rule that you cannot use coupons on items already on sale. So if an item is 10% off at the store, you cannot also use a coupon on top of that. (however, you CAN use a coupon INSTEAD of getting the OG discount.) So if a 10 dollar item is 20% off on a sale, but 30% off with a coupon, you can either use the coupon OR use the store discount, but not both. Also, the store itself doesn't offer coupons, so only manufacturer coupons could work, cuz of no store coupons. This is done to prevent people from the whole "1 dollar for 1k worth of food" stuff. Oh and another thing, you are only allowed to use a max of 7 coupons per shopping visit, and if you try to slip in an 8th, they just hand it back and explain the stores policy. Also, the store is already very affordable as it is, but the reason they make money is by not allowing people to essentially get free food. Also, this is a local grocery store, and not a chain FYI.

Most supermarkets will also have online coupons that you can add onto the store savings card. This will be product coupons and also bulk coupons for a total off of an entire purchase. My local supermarket is doing a great deal right now where you buy a pot roast cut of beef and then you get potatoes, onions, carrots, cake or brownie mix, and i think celery for free when you buy the meat!

After that coupon show came out the coupon makers where I live went crazy and started making strict rules about how many coupons you can use and transactions etc. Now the coupons are kind of useless unless you were going on a big shopping trip already.
