This is a dream come true for any car enthusiast. An old warehouse with a massive collection of classic cars that haven't been touched in years! I was given permission and the key to start these cars and explore their amazing history. Here are some of the vintage car makes we look at and try to start. Porche, Mercedes-Benz G Wagon, Rolls Royce, Range Rover, Land Rover, 2JZ Toyota Supra, and old Plymouth and a military Willys!! I even found a G Wagon with the Mercedes mechanical fuel injection replaced with a Carburetor! This was a ton of fun as you'll see in the video so let me know if you'd like to see more as I couldn't fully inspect every abandoned car in there.
I bought a super rare Mercedes AMG wagon!

Oh man, as soon as you started trying to crank those 928's I hoped they wouldn't start based on unknown timing belt integrity. The second one (US Spec early car), wouldn't have had PTV issues (4.5L 16v), but the first (Euro 4.7L 16v) would have and obviously the S4 (5L 32v) as well. 928's hate to sit and it's probably the last car I would ever try to start without doing a legitimate timing belt/wp change on.

Rodney Betz I have a friend that has a barn with 15 of these types of old cars, he tries to restore one a year, but one a year costs him about $20k. He owns a machine shop as part of his business, so he has all the parts he can’t find custom made. But realistically to keep them all in showroom quality would cost him upwards of $1M year, he would need 2 speciality mechanics and tons of gaskets and parts. Instead he keep all of them in close to running shape and spends a small amount making one good every year. I think he like the hobby too. While is well off, I don’t think $1M a year is in the budget. But $20-50k is for him

My dad's selling his 928 Porsche that's from the 90s he's asking £30k and he is trying to start it up. If your interested please text back. It's only be sitting for a year in an underground parking lot. It's be as far as I'm aware restored to factor style though years of parts. Unfortunately we do live in Britain so you might have to ship it, if you are not from or near Britain.
@glmoore001
@glmoore001 3 жыл бұрын
I have an 85S now so no interest in shipping one over, but if it is a 90's vehicle, that makes it a GT or GTS. Those are worth good money, but you have to make it run. You must make sure the fuel lines are in really good shape and that the timing belts have been changed. If the belt or fuel lines are defective, you will either bend the valves or set it on fire. Tell your father to be careful.

Kent Bergsma would freak out if he saw the haphazard method of trying to start those old G-wagens... But was still quite entertaining. The one time I tried to start a car that had been stored for just two years (E39 5 series) it started on its own but was super smokey and with a terrible rough idle. Was still fun nonetheless!

The first red W460 is a Gelandewagen 280GE (not a G-wagon 😜 ) with the M110 2,8 litre 6 cylinder, used in many MBs in the 70s and 80s. In the SWB it was the fastest G at the time. The Recaro seats were actually a option, very expensive. The blue buttons are air inflatable lumbar support. Yes, I had them in my LWB 86 280GE, in leather. *luxury* 😁

3 Land Rovers appear on the video. The first one without the keys is a Discovery 1 from the early 90s, the second one that started is a Classic. The both share the same engine. This engine was used in the Buick on early 60s. Land Rover bought the project to install on the original Classic. On those two it’s the probably the 3.9 l version. They are tough engines. The ones that blow the head Gaskets are the last interaction of them the 4.6L. The third Land Rover, and the most valuable one, appears on the back. It’s a series/Defender. If it’s an American spec it has the same engine. If it’s an European spec, it’s probably diesel. No P38 in this video.

the 95 doesn’t use SU carbs, it’s an l-jet system lol. SUs are the simplest carbs ever made and easy to tune if you have one brain cell. Ask anybody with a 240Z. Stromberg CDs look similar but are harder to tune when they’re worn out.

do you think that putting some new fuel in the tank would somehow get rid of all the old crap fuel in the fuel line from the pump to the engine?

Mike Keiser yes, I heard that as well, but parking cars for decades and not keeping them in running order with the intent that one day they will be restored is silly. They will degrade to where restoration will become cost prohibitive.

That 3.9 soft touch dash Rangie started up like it was switched off yesterday. I might prefer the 200 Tdi version but for an old 3.9 that’s not too bad at all. That one is a last year or close to production model as that dashboard was only used at the end of the production run.

Hmmm...don’t you usually do more than just jump start and spray hot sauce in the intake/carb? What about turn the crank by hand first to make sure it’s free and lubed, disconnect fuel supply and run off fresh fuel in gas can, etc???? Wouldn’t more cars actually start if you did this?

the 928 air filter is also used on bugatti veyrons. also, I believe early manual 928s had different floorpans than autos, so the back seat is bigger. either way the back seats are pretty much useless. I'm about 5'9" also and can't fit behind my own seating position in my car.

None of those porches are locked up, it just likes the battery having at least some charge in it to start. You cannot start it with just a jumper pack. I tried doing the same thing with my 930 and it had the same results. So you'll have to just get a good battery in it and it will start right up
