This vegetable garden is relatively new. I built within this area of our garden, a series of raised garden beds that measured 3’x6’x12”. I filled it with organic compost and planted it with several of our favorite crops.
Our vegetable garden is quite straightforward. I planted the crops I want to grow, and followed the practical advice on starting, nurturing, and harvesting.
I chose varieties that are suitable for my climate in central North Carolina. I didn’t want to go big, but that doesn’t mean I won’t grow the unusual, exotic, or heirloom options for the most popular crops. This will be for later on
This vegetable holding has been a source of joy for me. I discover how to plan the space, whether it's a vegetable patch, a small raised bed, or just some containers (outside or inside!).
In this video I’ll show you the before and after on how the vegetable garden looked like in late summer/early fall of 2021, to late winter/early spring 2022.
And the welcome surprise that I referred to in the title of this video, a Romanesco broccoli that I have in one of the raised beds.
Raised bed vegetable gardening is an excellent way to grow your own especially if you have problematic clay soil.
