I think the mansion was made to be a hideout during some kind of war. Then it was maybe abandoned for several year after which it was renovated. My theories: 1.maybe after war the underground and the top hideout was not renovated and a person broke into the house and is now living there. The person can be a theif who is either using your house as a secret hideout or is planning to rob your house. 2.maybe it is some kind of ghost or spirit of a soldier who died there. And is now haunting your house 3. Maybe its your imagination and the cracks and footstep noises are just signs of your house breaking down.

I heard this thing on tik tok that a girl moved into a house and there was a metal cupboard and one day she was home alone and she heard scratches and bangs coming from the cupboard but no matter how much she tried she couldn't open it so her parents decided to have the walk knocked down and in the cupboard was a man so Carter's house probably the same thing happened
