Hands down modern day’s best example of revolutionary virtuosity. He does things people are unable to explain, as Paganini did back in his day. There’s other aspects besides virtuosity that makes a performer great but is amazing to witness this.

One of the insane things he did in that Beethoven symphony was vibrato on a harmonic. I don't know how it is even physically possible, but he definitely did it.

Amazing. And funnily enough, I don't even think these are the most impressive performances. You have to check out his version of I Palpiti, where he goes crazy with left hand pizz and even TRIPLE OCTAVES! But even more insane in my opinion, his I Brindisi has his own technique (Kim harmonics or forced harmonics), while playinf double stops, while tremolo, and left hand pizz. Just otherworldly.

The thing with him is he seems to feel like using social media to promote himself might be the "fake" way to do it. Like if he doesn't get world renowned the same way the people who came before him that he respects did then it's not real. My thoughts are that they used the means available to them at the time for promotion. Newspapers and posters and however else, but were he alive today Paganini would absolutely be on Tiktok haha. I don't think Mozart would be opposed to doing an interview with millions of eyes because the show happens to be on the internet and include comedy. I'd just like to hear him talk about what he does haha. I get it though I don't mess with social media either but this level of skill in anything needs to be seen.

I would argue Kim is the best violinist in terms of technical skill that we have evidence of playing. Of all time. Above any other maestro. Sadly we dont have footage of Paganini, but I suspect Kim would've played the socks off of Paganini. In any sport, hobby, game, or competition the level of expertise increases over time as information about it grows. Never before in history could you see full definition video of how the very best do anything. Whether its piano, bowling, violin, sprinting, wrestling or anything. You can watch and analyze how the best do it. Imagine 200 years ago, there was none of that.

You should really listen to his versions of I palpiti and one of his compositions called I brindisi, he has insane harmonics, he uses like only one finger and does whole scales with it it’s unreal

He IS amazing but (and this is not a criticism) I think he has an invisible fret overlay which helps with the pitch. I think you can see it when you look at the fingerboard during closeups... Again, not a criticism. I think it's actually a great idea.

This guy is so great, he manages to use frets on a violin and not make it feel like a dirty cheat at all …

to play legato and staccato at once you need to basically vibrate your wrist back and forth to come in and out of double stops. Very hard but possible. Watch the video of him playing closer and you can see that.

It's nice and the technique he holds is truly amazing but how would these improvisations resound when he plays with an orchestra or a chamber music orchestra? I guess these improvs are nice when he plays like he's doing already - alone.

Okay, so, I think I can TRY and explain what Roman Kim did here: 7:04 ; so, in my knowledge, I think he's using the same technique seen in Bach's Andante (Sonata No.2 - BWV 1003), where, while playing a legato in one string, you closely lean the bow onto the next string replicating a rhythm of the composers choice, so maybe he's just doing it really quick. And yeah, it's either that or he's just a God.

Then there's the rest of us violinsts who understand and appreciate what he's done to bring violin to the next level in terms of techniques. I am sincerely curious what the music sheets will be like if he ever publishes those amazing renditions of music.

Clearly it's not hard to do, i mean we're seeing it being done. So it has to be easy. Just like free climbing a mountain, or sewing grape skins back together. Anyone can do it. (If it wasn't easy to pick up on, sarcasm) Really really, the closest i could come to such would be that i can pick up a violin and bow. I could probably make a sound that doesn't include crackling of wood with them. I know what I'm capable of doing and what i can't, play a violin is one of the many that i cannot do.

Always nice to see how you still, unintetionally, play him down. Saying 99% cant play this still leaves room for 1% to be able to do it. This would correspond still to 80 million people in the world. While I would think there are at most about 100 people who could train to play it like this, which means about 99.99999875% cant play this (Using a population of 8 billion).
