I am Chilean, and I think Mendoza is the best in South America according to my tastes in terms of price/quality/charm. It has a "small town" vibe, but is big enough that there is everything you need. It is also safe and cheap. And of course, it is the people who make the place. I perceive Mendoza as fertility. Very fertile land with an excellent "rhythm", pulse. I see it as ideal for those who want to raise a family. I'm going to live there in a couple of years.

Soy chileno y me encantó volver a recorrer esa maravillosa ciudad. Su gente es amable y cariñosa. Adoro Mendoza, excepto en verano por su calor.

Trivia: the five plazas where created after the 1861 earthquake that destroyed the city and killed half of the population. Their main purpose was to provide open spaces to get people gather together in case of natural disasters.

Lindo video!!

Im from Mendoza and you are right about the buses. I live in Godoy Cruz, very close to the city so I decide to walk instead of taking a bus most of the times, I enjoy a lot my 40 minutes walk.

Beautiful video, I'm glad you liked Mendoza. Personally as someone from Mendoza, I agree that the area around Plaza España and Plaza Chile is beautiful. However, I've recently started to notice that the San Martin avenue area is very deteriorated and old. It should be modernized.

Thanks Gary. - just showed my hubby your video. Your videos of Argentina are great! You mentioned doing transactions with the Blue currency on the street. I think you mentioned Florida Street in Buenos Aires? Most expats seem to be lining up at the Western Unions (sometimes for hours!!) to exchange their money - and when they get to the front of the line find out they have run out of money. Did it feel safe doing it on the street? Or do they have little kiosks on these streets where you can do the transaction in some sort of privacy?
@GarryMikal
@GarryMikal 6 сағат бұрын
@@WeDidntExpectthis I felt pretty safe doing it on Florida street, but it's a little tricky because they will usually only accept large bills ($100 USD) of the newest series and undamaged. Euros too, same thing. Though some people get scammed because the money changer will give counterfeit bills. Doesnt happen often but I have heard about it. It never happened to me. They do the transaction in a nearby office, not right on the street. Actually, I ran out of USD cash so I started doing Western Union. They give a rate that is slightly worse than the blue dollar and they charge a transaction fee, but it is more secure and predictable. I have never had them run out of cash, the trick is to find a large branch location, the kind with multiple service windows. Those usually have a lot of cash on hand. If you are in Buenos Aires, I recommend the branch at the corner of Montevideo and Cordoba streets. Also, foreign Visa credit cards use an exchange rate very close to the blue dollar rate but some smaller businesses only accept cash and some businesses will give you a discount if you pay in cash. It's a bit complicated and overwheming at first but I got used to it pretty quick.

Great video ! We are traveling for 4-5 years between Mexico and Argentina, in search of our favorite retirement city...we retired about a 16 months ago. Mendoza looks fantastic. We are cool weather lovers, so we do worry about how hot/humid the summer is. We lived in Florida many years and that type of climate is unappealing to us. Thoughts ? Thanks !
@GarryMikal
@GarryMikal 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I don't think it gets too humid in Mendoza but it does get very hot in the summer. When I was there it was about 100F for 2 weeks in a row and though the locals told me that was unusual, they said that it is usually in the 90s (F) during the summer. It's a dry heat, but it's hot for sure. Good luck in your travels!

Thinking a retired couple could live there comfy on $1500-$2000/month USD ?
@GarryMikal
@GarryMikal 3 ай бұрын
I think it depends on what you define as "comfortably." I stayed there for about $900 per month, I am moderately thrifty. Also note that because the economy and inflation are wacky in Argentina now it is hard to plan or budget too far in the future.
@sarahm8281
@sarahm8281 Ай бұрын
I'm sure you can live comfy here. You can get a pretty good place for $250 to $300 USD in areas like Alto Dorrego, Godoy Cruz and 6ta Sección which are 10 minutes away from the heart of the City. Vistalb and Chacras is gorgeous, more quiet and country like, is 25 to 30 minutes away from the center of the city but is so worth it. Groceries for 2 ppl and pet is about $500 and that with good quality meat and fruits&veggies inclueded. You have public and prepaid health care here but I strogly suggest a prepaid for emergency cases because public health is really lacks in that. And you can go to REALLY good doctors for scheduled apointments (you have a long waiting tho, depending on the demand, but 2 months is the usual) for $12 to $30. Prepaids are usually more expensive the older you are so having a good one can be about $260 up to $350 ffor 2 ppl The house expenses like water/gas/electricity has bimestral payment (you pay once every two months) its about $120 internet of 100MEGAS is like $35 - $45 Going out to eat one a week can cost $27 for two ppl in almost any normal place, but if you go to a fancy one can go up to $50 to $60 for 2. As the good folk in the vid said mendoza is pretty much walkable city so i don't think owning a car is necessary. I think you are good pretty much good with 2000 and even have a little spear money to buy clothes and some other stuff every month. I hope this helps!

How did you purchase a property in Argentina? My wife is a citizen of Argentina and I am a US citizen. We want to move back to Argentina. It seems costly and risky to transfer money to buy a home or apartment in Argentina. How did you do it?

@@davidbanner6104 I don't know very well but I think it is also risky because of the taxes,etc. What I suggested was, if you have some relative in Argentina with extra money here in Argentina, an a bank account in the US that would be ideal, he can transfer money between national accounts to buy the house, and you transfer your money to an account in the US
